Patti has so much energy in her movements on stage! I think that, among other things, that make the OBC and the original staging so much more exciting than the boring snooze fest that the new staging offers.

Patti was so ferocious as Eva. I’m not sure the modern Evas are as brave as they try to look after their voices and energy understandably - it’s a mammoth role. But Patti got stronger as her run went on. No one has sung it quite like her.

The sad thing is that somewhere in a vault someplace there's a good video of this show. "Archival" video is always taken but I have never actually heard who gets to see it. I hope they think to at least digitize it before it fades away to nothing.

I've heard that they didn't professionally film a version with Patti, that they didn't get around to it when she was in the role. I want to say the archived version is Loni Ackerman, but I'm not 100% sure (maybe an Evita fan on here will correct me). They have footage that they used for the ads but I don't think they filmed an entire show. It kills me though. Why wouldn't you film one with the person who won the Tony for it? You'd think ALW would want a copy filmed with every actress who played her for his collection. There is a much better copy of this exact boot that exists but there are only a handful of people who have it. The rest of us mortals have to deal with this version which, after watching, always makes me feel like I've just taken a drunken ride on The Haunted Mansion. :-)

@@JoannesVodkaStinger Interesting- thanks. But from what little I know of that show, it makes sense to me they never got around to it. (Did they film Elaine Paige? ) I tend to get opinionated about the issue of access to art. I won’t spout out on your nice page but I think everyone who wants to should have access to iconic performances.

I completely agree with you. I think it should be available to everyone and I wish places like Lincoln Center or the V&A or British Library or Paley, etc would make them available so people all over the world could access them. It's crazy to me that only people in the area are allowed to watch them - and only with a good reason. What's a good reason? I want to watch a piece of history - isn't that good enough? As for Elaine Paige, I want to say that I read somewhere that her Evita was filmed and she thought it was in her contract that she would get a copy of the performance but it didn't happen. The contract wasn't worded right or something and ALW wouldn't give it to her. I wish I knew where I read that, because I think it was Evita. It was definitely about ALW.
