they show Barbara Streisand when he is saying the intro because she refused to sing her song because she was't nominated where Madonna went gladly.....Madonna is a class act.
Exactly, and also you know , she wasnt nominated , just for total jealousy of the rest of the actors, who very happy were after the show in her big oscar party, , so fake people, MADONNA, deserves a nomination at least, it was the performance of her life, and Hollywood was afraid of her.
MrKomninakis And you know what? Immediately after the nominations were announced and she wasn't nominated Madonna contacted the shows producers and told him she wanted to sing, as Billy pointed out. She is a class act indeed.
Streisand only sang twice at the Academy Awards show. In 1977 when she won an Oscar for Evergreen (love theme from A Star is Born) which she wrote with Paul Williams, and in 2014, when she sang The Way We Were in the "in memorian" segment, as a tribute to her long time friend Marvin Hamlisch, who wrote that song with Alan&Marilyn Bergman. She didn't sing The Way Were in 1974, How Lycky Can You Get. (Funny Lady) in 1976, Papa Can You Hear Me / The Way He Makes Me Feel (YENTL) in 1984 and I Finally Found Someone (The mirror has two Faces) in 1997, because , somehow, she knew none of those songs would win. The Way We Were, did win an Oscar, but it was for Hamlisch and the Bergmans. She did sing Evergreen because she knew she was going to win and receive the Oscar.
Imagine how nerve racking that must be as a pop star who has been slated for years for her vocal ability and then not nominated. I'm front of the world of Hollywood. I for one thought she was brilliant
This wonderful performance came after vocal coaching with Joan Lader for 'Evita' film, but I have always felt Madonna has excelled at big emotional ballads (Live to Tell, Oh Father, Something to Remember, to name a few) filling them with emotion/feeling/heart, that can be missing from some other (considered) better singers. Well done Madonna! Simply amazing?
I agree, this is the best performance of You must love me, whits such an emotional avalanche, all that Broadway stars who sing better were not close to this.
I would add her evocative cover of Love Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (the music video version) to her excellent ballads (it’s also included in her ballad compilation album of Something To Remember).
WOW... just wow this is why she excepted the invatation to slience & stun the crowd in eqaul doses ! this era was the turning point for Madonna & Evita paved the way for the Epic Rayoflight 3 years later. 💜 Nothing but love
Madonna is such a very professional performer. She accepted their invitation in the Oscars even she wasn't nominated. A big slap for Barbra Streisand. 😂😂😂 I love Madonna forever!
Unnecessary. Barbra wasn't going to attend, so Natalie Cole rehearsed her song, but then fell ill. Barbra decided to attend last minute and offered to sing but Celine had already rehearsed it.
@@germartamor4735 The guy next to her is James Brolin, her husband. To me, it looked like he was hamming it up for the camera in an effort to embarrass her and she said, “stop it.” Who knows but that’s what it seemed like to me.
I bought the Evita soundtrack, watched the film, loved a few tracks, but this song seemed to escape me back in 1996. I remember a friend of mine raving about it and the lyrics. It's not until now that the greatness of the song has caught my attention. Wonderfully written song.
Beautiful Madonna! I love you 😍 great performance! you never needed awards and approvals from the critics to become the best selling female artist in history! Your performance in Evita was amazing! and your name say everything... Madonna... 👑🙌❤️😍😘
Evita is undoubtedly her FINEST filmed work, and she was in top vocal form for this performance. VERY touching. It almost felt like she was singing to the audience as a thank you for at LEAST recognizing her by giving her the Golden Globe for her work in Evita. ❤️ Madonna. She made me VERY PROUD of tackling ALW to begin with, and I ❤️'d her as Eva Peron.
Um… she was nervous the first half of this performance and knocked it out of the park the second half. Starting with an ‘Um’ diminishes her vocal ability during this performance, which is catty and typical. She did great and sounded great. Period.
Sheer perfection! to think Babs was in the audience. Im sure this was a nerve-wracking moment for Madonna but she pulled this off magnificently. Bravo Madonna. PS. I think Billy Crystal is a huge Madonna fan :)

Transition & reinvention takes time & talent...It's madonna's unpredictability to being held down & kept in a box that Scares the haters the most. But it's also the main reason we all love her so much more👑

She doesn't need the voice of Patti Lupone but she's a great story teller & performer that touches the heart of many viewers.
69th awards and Madge repeatedly says you must love her in a bigger-than-life Bob Mackey-esque gown (despite her lack of nomination). Life is such a stage!!!
Nervous as hell. We can notice that by her voice. The first verses she is so nervous her voice shakes. But it's ok, it's very difficult to sing at the Oscars. All you're the industry is there watching you. Especially those who don't like you. And it's broadcast to the whole world. Madonna is beautiful and I like her voice very much.
I feel like she was just delivering the song as it’s intended. Eva Perón in this moment of the musical is so broken and feels useless to her country now that she’s been diagnosed with metastatic cancer. Either way, she fucking nailed it!

Bravest and classiest thing she ever did.
"Sooner or later" at the VAMs1991, that is also remarkable. This woman is a unique work of art. Total genius, I always loved her and always will.
A pivotal moment in Madonna history! She ended the 90’s with pure class and combined ballads with electrónica, what a musical innovator!
2024 and still here listening to this wonderful performance! She was definitely robbed of the nomination and award that year!🏆

Madonna emotes well in ballads
Love her or hate her.... Madonna was robbed of an Oscar Nod that year for Best Actress!
ironic fact: frances mcdormand won the academy award for best actress, but lost to madonna at the golden globes.
Emily Watson should have won
Madonna is bomb! Above all others.
Academy hates Madonna...
I've never seen that before. For all those who say she can't sing - sit down. I'm surprised there wasn't an ovation. bravo !

Her voice is so Sweet.
Omg it's amazing here, I think her voice has more potential
