Great advice. I've used several of these tactics to my advantage. Three key points I'd like to add: 1) Read the fine print online first for arbitrary fees and stipulations regarding incentives. That way you're prepared to interact and negotiate. 2) Do your math at home so you have a ballpark idea of what the car should cost you OUT THE DOOR. 3) Don't act desperate. Don't hesitate to walk out if they are being stubborn and refuse to meet you at your out the door price. I've used several of Ari's tactics to my advantage over the years. I've had to walk away and buy a totally different brand of car before because they simply couldn't give me the kind of deal I would be happy with.
I emailed all dealers 100 miles from my area , asked for the best and final out the door quotes on the exact vehicle I was looking to purchase . Once I got the lowest from a couple dealers , I then sent the quote to a couple other dealers and asked them to beat it , before I walk in person for the test drive. Some dealers became flakey and unresponsive, others answered me back. The one with the lowest quote out the door price , that's who earned my business. It went pretty straight forward from there.
That sounds like the longest way to buy a car that takes so much effort. Most dealers give the same price but you’re always going to get the best deal on the show floor at my dealership because it means you took the effort to actually come in.
@@HowDazzyDo didn't take long at all actually, had the car in days. And I wasn't in a rush to buy , nor did I even need to . I wanted to, wasn't a need. Get it in writing. Salesman promised a 2nd key? GET IT IN WRITING!!!!!! I used to be a service advisor and we had at least 4-5 people a week who were "promised" something that they never got in writing. In the dealership world, it's called a WE-OWE. Meaning we-OWE you something that you could not take with you when you purchased the car.
Always appreciate your videos Ari, some of the best information about car buying out there. One point, though: NEVER discuss personal financial information publicly.....ONLY discuss in private, with the person authorized the make financial arrangements....per the Gramm- Leach-Bliley Act, which is Federal law.
Great video. I’d have to disagree with the negotiating financing though. Taking dealer financing for a higher rate than what you already shopped for puts the ball back in their court. Them offering accessories or free maintenance, etc. has little out of pocket cost for them and can cost you more in the long run. Might as well take the lowest interest rate and save money over time and use your extra on hand capital to buy those accessories yourself
I’m going to route 46 tomorrow for a used Lexus RX 350 2013-2015 and will definitely use your advice to bargain. I hope I’m successful and get a good deal
I don't lease and don't finance at the dealer. I only allow them to compete with my preapproved financing if they meet my pre researched price based on the nationwide dealerships. And walkout if they start the four square three-card monty game.
Hey Ari.. Got some questions for you.. Kind of what to do after purchase.. Long story short, i purchased my q70s 5.6x out of state from a dealer for a price i was happy paying. No issues with contract or anything like that. Dealer told me thru text "car runs great" when there is active misfires, and another issue that requires engine removal. I even told the guy i would pay them to make repairs if any were needed. "Car's in great mechanical shape." Overall about 7k in estimated repairs at infiniti. I contacted the selling dealer immediately, and informed them of issues, and plan of action. I truly feel like i was sold a car under false pretense, "false advertising" as it were. I plan on making them an offer to go in halfs on repairs, cutting me a check for difference in vehicle value adjusted for actual condition, or taking the vehicle back to them.. I'm really heart broken here, and don't want to act emotionally. I thought about emailing you but figured someone else out there will eventually go through this.. Thanks in advance Ari.. You're appreciated.. Great vid also... Fortunately the sale process was rather smooth for me, and I'm coming to find out why... They just wanted to get rid of the car i think.. Thanks again. Have a great day!!
Told my dealer I was shopping other dealers and had a better deal elsewhere. Showed them the buyers order, then they offered me 6,350 discount and payed my first months lease payment on a Tacoma TRD Off Road 4X4 just to keep my business.
From Australia: what does Fico mean? Here, by law, the price must be the full drive away price, which includes all the taxes. Just like shopping here, tax is included, not added at the end!
FICO is the Fair Isaac credit scoring system used to determine credit worthiness when it comes to applying for credit cards, car loans, and other major loans, etc.
@@romeog9347 I know hey. My youngest son is a Captain now for American Airlines and now lives in Memphis. They just built a mansion which would be 5 times more value here @ $2 million. I tell him, why aren’t you buying a Mercedes or BMW. They’re so cheap!
The best deal is the one the dealer is willing to sell it for if they let you walk out of a deal is because that is the best deal you can get. There is no such a thing as huge discount on vehicles that are on demand, if you want a crazy deal then you'll have to buy a brand or model that nobody wants to buy. Some models are hot selling like Audi Q5, Lexus RX, Subaru Outback and Crosstrek, Toyota Highlander, Mazda CX5, Mercedes GLC, among others.
As a single woman They really did a number on me! I tried everything 😪 Nothing worked They sold me everything under the sun! Pissed They wouldn't budge on sticker price Blamed "chip shortage"
As far as loans go, ask what the buy and sell rate is, which is to say, what is their buy rate. I would also have your own sheet and on it there are these lines: MSRP, offered price, tax, registration/title/plates, doc fee, trade if you are trading in and total cost, which is the OTD. No four square, no focus on payment. Have your payment calculator ready which is available all over the internet and many will be able to calculate the tax/title/reg/tags for your state. The numbers have to add up or they are burying points somewhere. Anything outside of those line items, just say no and if they insist, leave.
Excellent video. My credit is bad. I could never get financing for a new car. I want to write my personal check for 35,000 for a new Honda CR-V at the local dealer. At least I won't have to worry about a big monthly car payment.
If you can write a check for a car, your credit score does not matter. Remember a credit score only gives you the ability to borrow money and pay interest to a bank. If you have cash, you never should borrow money.
We just priced a 2021 Toyota Highlander Platinum. This dealership said they would sell this car to us for $46,000 is this a good deal. Thank for your help. Love your videos keep’em coming
When my mother died during January of 2018, our local dealer bought her car for $500. As far as I could tell, it was clean and mechanically sound. The only thing that seemed to be wrong with it was it was the fact that it was a seven year old small sedan. I had a feeling he was lowballing us but my sister and I just wanted to get the car sold without a lot of arguing and struggle. I happened to pass by the dealership a week later and saw the car for sale for $8,000. That's quite a jump up from $500. Oh well, he sure made a profit on that deal.
That's the price you pay for the convenience of a "no haggle sale". Back in 2000, a Ford dealer offered me $300 for a trade in on a 10 year old Ford Aerostar in top shape. I sold it myself for $3000. Last year CarMax offered me $200 for a 2006 Audi A4, which I sold myself for $2000. If you want to get what the car is worth, you have to sell it yourself.
Oh that’s awful!!! I’m so sorry you went through that. Someone told me something years ago….they said “don’t make any major decisions for at least two years” after death of your loved one. It’s been 4 years ago, I LOST my mom June 2018…and I’m just starting to come around. I’m so sorry that that happened to you I really am. 🙏❤️
@@swgforthefence One complicating factor is that my state is one of the few that imposes a yearly car ownership tax based on the depreciated book value of the car for that year. We wanted to get rid of that potential tax liability for the next year. Whatever vehicle you own at 9 am on January 2 of the year being currently being taxed is the one you have to pay taxes on.
Here's my one comment for 3 tips 1 Do your research first. 2nd find a friend or friend of friend that knows or has the knowledge needed to buy a car or lease one this can keep you from getting ripped off or mistreated. 3rd Do not deal with Cheverolet Van devere in akron ohio located on Vernon Odom blvd. If this is how dealerships treat people and get over on people the. I suggest dont buy at all from dealerships let they business fall.... especially if they want to treat people like this and in a really horrible situation take advantage of familys and people that got a chance to do better and alls they care about is the money not their customers that provide them with said money
Im reluctantly thinking about ordering a car in the next month or 2,BUT,it possibly can be shut down if the bullshit gets too deep while in the process, due to this is really the worst time ever to buy

Great info. I’ve bought a lot of cars over the years, and I feel like dealerships are less likely to work with you on pricing and trade-in $$. They don’t need help selling cars nowadays, so they’re not keen to really negotiate.
How can I get the best price on a custom order Ram? Dealership basically wants msrp and 4-6 months til it shows up. BUT WHAT IF THE MARKET IS DIFFERENT at that time??? I don’t want to pay today’s market price if times are better in 4-6 months. Thanks
@Bears Win thank you for taking the time to help. I really appreciate it. I have looking here and there for a used truck. I have good credit and not worried about getting turned down for financing. I never heard of the auto FICO score. I'll trying to learn as much as I can before I go to the dealer and get blind sided! Maybe from watching these types of videos I'm just worried over nothing. Thank you again for replying inn such detail!
I just walked from a dealership yesterday because they added 3K to the price for add-ons. I said that I did not want their add-ons. But they said that they do it on every vehicle that comes in. I said "Bye".
pick the cars for $9,200ish (taxes are different per state) find the one that works best for you, hand them the cash, sign your docs and go. but $10,000 isn’t going to get you much of a car these days
l LIVE IN HOUSTON TX - HAVING A VERY HARD TIME GETTING A 2021 YUKON DENALI - SHOULD I PURCHASE A 4WD FOR THE PRICE OF THE 2WD IF IT HAS EVERYTHING I WANT & THE DEALER IS WILLING TO LOWER THE PRICE OF THE 4WD TO THE SAME AS THE 2WD
cool video! Thanks for Sharing! I tried # 1 - they said No - I left dealers don't seem to be willing to lower the sticker much if at all what's crazier to me is they are bigger hard asses on used cars then new cars when it comes to lowering the price. Strange times!!!!
They don't have the same incentives and rebates on used as new. If you've seen it online and it's a older unit they're probably already losing money to move it. At some point their better off sending it to auction, then selling it at more of a loss to a customer.
I will be writing all my questions out before I make my dealer trip,, I am looking for a vehicle and is press for time since my old car inspection is up in May, not to mention my car needs a cluster board.
I never put a penny out of pocket at lease signing...its money you'll never get back. All dealers can and will do it, despite any initial objection/bristled response. Just watch they don't change any other terms.
When it comes to asking the dealer for the total price out the door, what do you say when they are asking how much are you putting down first? Or do you say zero and then surprise them later with a down payment?
I don't believe you covered extended warranties. I usually buy an extended warranty that has a free 60 or 90 day free cancellation. I then cancel it just before the deadline. That gives me a free 60 or 90 day free warranty.
Ari, so you really think your ideas of buying a car would really work with a BMW dealership in Southern California? The 2021 BMW G82 M4 500HP doesn’t go on sale until March 2021. I’ll give it my best try. MSRP is $ 74,000 dollars. My goal is to keep the price hopefully under $100,000 dollars.
I am in the same boat with the exact same car. Got a 6.1% off MSRP offer on an ordered M5 (not M4) from an out-of-state dealer in Georgia. My M4 config came to ~ $85K.
Very good content! How good is Carvana? Plugged in my car's vin, answered a few questions and it gave me a $12K trade-in value. Local dealer offered $18-19K after their person actually inspected my car.
Hi Ari, great info. Do the same rules apply generally in Canada? Advice....? 12 months til lease end and dealer contacted us already. 2017 Honda crv touring for $40k. Currently has 50000km. Our mileage limit was 24000 km per year. Residual on agreement was $19k with $400 fee. Don't want to walk away. We like the car. But maybe sell in 5 years to buy 2021 used Crv. Best value options?? Leasing new vehicle at 0.49% (36 months)? They said they'll also pay us $3k if we want to lease newest model. We are leaning towards buying vehicle, finance the $19k residual, 36-48 months, maybe have enough for a $3-5k downpayment. It's value on Carfax is $30k right now... Maybe value will be $25k when the lease is up next year. They are offering a 48 month, 0% int option for trading in old vehicle to finance a brand new one. Will they offer the same interest rate if we want to keep and finance this car we are currently leasing? Would u recommend this last option.? What language should we use to get the best deal?
Don't do Subaru!!!!! I was so happy to get rid of mine and got the Mazda 6 2021. The new Subaru will have "awesome gadgets" on my 2015 model they didn't work and had so many recalls!!!!!! Less gadgets = better running car. Have basics on car. Gadgets at home. Just saying. Keep it simple.
What about your credit score is not the best but you have 20% of the value of the car ?? Would that look past the bad credit?? Thank you very much for great video..
Down payment is super important when you buy a vehicle but have imperfect credit. If you're looking for something new it's also helpful to look at something that has a lot of rebates, or if you're looking for something pre-owned look for something around 13-14k! Hopefully thats helpful.
Hi Ari, is it wise to let the dealer/salesperson that you’re perfectly willing to walk? I’ve bought many cars over the years, and have often walked, and by the time I open my car door, they’ve already dropped the price. It’s worked, but is it advisable in your experience?
Thanks for the info. I have a leased car which I really like (bmw 328D sports wagon with only 22k) that’s due to return in a couple months. I’m considering buying it. What’s a good tip when you return the car and instead say your want to buy it? will they give me a better deal if I would get a new car and return my current lease?

And just so it's clear I'm gonna find the good stuff any lack or hole I find that is over missed once I'm done doing my homework on your business I will let you know as well as others. So with that said I will find something that's costly to your business everyone has something hidden now you made it my job and others job to now do homework and search for anything that we can find that will make you understand you will not continue treating people like this or take advantage of people without consequence so be prepaired.

Also, get everything in writing. Did they tell you they would give you your first oil change for Free? Get it in writing. Did they say they were going to hook you up with a new set of floor mats? Get it in writing. Salesman promised a 2nd key? GET IT IN WRITING!!!!!! I used to be a service advisor and we had at least 4-5 people a week who were "promised" something that they never got in writing. In the dealership world, it's called a WE-OWE. Meaning we-OWE you something that you could not take with you when you purchased the car.
It's known as a "WE OWE" the good dealerships use them routinely, signed by management, F&I manager, Sales rep and you... Been using them 45 years.
Love it when you’re so animated.👍👍👍Oh, and good stuff. 10 good pieces of advice.
Thank you Jim!!
Always appreciate your videos Ari, some of the best information about car buying out there. One point, though: NEVER discuss personal financial information publicly.....ONLY discuss in private, with the person authorized the make financial arrangements....per the Gramm- Leach-Bliley Act, which is Federal law.
I’m going to start with #9 and work my way back
Great video.
How’d it go?
let us know
I don't lease and don't finance at the dealer.
It should be under warranty and get it fixed. Maybe they didn’t inspect it or they missed something. People are human.
@@SeriouslyAutomotive what warranty???
Told my dealer I was shopping other dealers and had a better deal elsewhere. Showed them the buyers order, then they offered me 6,350 discount and payed my first months lease payment on a Tacoma TRD Off Road 4X4 just to keep my business.
It’s absurd what another quote will do
From Australia: what does Fico mean? Here, by law, the price must be the full drive away price, which includes all the taxes. Just like shopping here, tax is included, not added at the end!
I love that!!! Thats how it should be
FICO is the Fair Isaac credit scoring system used to determine credit worthiness when it comes to applying for credit cards, car loans, and other major loans, etc.
I got family in Melbourne, the prices u guys pay for cars is insane. Im from Detroit
@@romeog9347 I know hey. My youngest son is a Captain now for American Airlines and now lives in Memphis. They just built a mansion which would be 5 times more value here @ $2 million. I tell him, why aren’t you buying a Mercedes or BMW. They’re so cheap!
You should have a lotto once you reach 100,000 subscribers, and take the winner to the dealership of their choice and help them get the best deal :-)
I have a dead father who owned a dealership. Tough for me as really don’t want to deal with a salesman.
As a single woman
They really did a number on me!
I tried everything 😪
Nothing worked
They sold me everything under the sun!
Pissed They wouldn't budge on sticker price
Blamed "chip shortage"
Wow, have to say this is the best car-buying advice I've seen! Thank you!
Hey Ari, Sorry, I have one more question or suggestion. Can you do a video or make suggestions regarding third party warranties? Thanks again!
I am currently omw to try and negotiate for a Nissan Altima. I’ll keep you updated :)
Going today. I need a 2nd car. I wish I could wait. Should I get what I want or a gas saver and wait to get the Tacoma? Used 2018
Great video mate.
How long does it take 🤔 to get the whatever
I will definitely remember to use that card !!! 👀hey Mr. Dealer I watch Ari on UA-cam, and that makes me a professional negotiator!!!

AAA has extended warranties for used cars too.
@@TimeLessEntityT0 Well said.
YOU ROCK ARI!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU DUDE! AWESOME ADVICE! QUESTION: I have a GM supplier code... the dealers wont take it! How do I get them to???????

So unethical 😒
I forgot about number 9. Was at the BMW dealer for 6 hours when I leased a former loaner.
I suggest dont buy at all from dealerships let they business fall.... especially if they want to treat people like this and in a really horrible situation take advantage of familys and people that got a chance to do better and alls they care about is the money not their customers that provide them with said money

a lot of value in 7 minutes, thank you!
Great info. I’ve bought a lot of cars over the years, and I feel like dealerships are less likely to work with you on pricing and trade-in $$. They don’t need help selling cars nowadays, so they’re not keen to really negotiate.
Aren't used cars worth a little more now?
great info! what do you think about buying a lease online? Is it better to just go in and try to negotiate?
What would you say about buying the 2021 Toyota Camry Nightshade?

Great video. Do U have a video on how to buy a used car for 10k cash ?
pick the cars for $9,200ish (taxes are different per state) find the one that works best for you, hand them the cash, sign your docs and go. but $10,000 isn’t going to get you much of a car these days
Wish I would have seen this video before buying my car :(

l LIVE IN HOUSTON TX - HAVING A VERY HARD TIME GETTING A 2021 YUKON DENALI - SHOULD I PURCHASE A 4WD FOR THE PRICE OF THE 2WD IF IT HAS EVERYTHING I WANT & THE DEALER IS WILLING TO LOWER THE PRICE OF THE 4WD TO THE SAME AS THE 2WD
Lol... yes.
cool video! Thanks for Sharing! I tried # 1 - they said No - I left
dealers don't seem to be willing to lower the sticker much if at all
what's crazier to me is they are bigger hard asses on used cars then new cars when it comes to lowering the price. Strange times!!!!
They don't have the same incentives and rebates on used as new. If you've seen it online and it's a older unit they're probably already losing money to move it. At some point their better off sending it to auction, then selling it at more of a loss to a customer.
I may even consider just just printing this all out and handing it to the salesperson ahead of even talking to them.
I will be writing all my questions out before I make my dealer trip,, I am looking for a vehicle and is press for time since my old car inspection is up in May, not to mention my car needs a cluster board.
I would say I got an idea....then bring another salesman to help the mooch
😂😂😂
I never put a penny out of pocket at lease signing...its money you'll never get back. All dealers can and will do it, despite any initial objection/bristled response. Just watch they don't change any other terms.
Thank you sir this was very helpful
When it comes to asking the dealer for the total price out the door, what do you say when they are asking how much are you putting down first? Or do you say zero and then surprise them later with a down payment?
I wouldn't. They know you're serious if you offer 20%.

Carvana offers less but their cars are cheaper. Plus there is convenience. Their cars are largely fleet vehicles
Which is better leasing or buying a car and why?
Have you done a video with tips on what to do when someone is on the end of his lease? Keep the car? What suggestions would you give. Great video!
Thank you very very much. Will do that video soon :)
Never a good idea, lease to buy. The most expensive way to buy a car.
THANK YOU- GREAT REVIEW.....Lease is up on VW Tiguan in about 1 year😬.....will more than likely go with MAZDA 6 sedan or SUBARU OUTBACK
Thank you too!
These are good tips but unfortunately the buyer has lost all negotiating power during Covid times and lack of supply.
Are there professional car hagglers, like a realtor for a house Ari?

I will be doing all my homework on this particular dealership because they asked for it. And just so it's clear I'm gonna find the good stuff any lack or hole I find that is over missed once I'm done doing my homework on your business I will let you know as well as others. Remember there is always something it's just a matter of homework! And again yall ask for this not me next time you will be careful of how you treat people. So with that said I will find something that's costly to your business everyone has something hidden now you made it my job and others job to now do homework and search for anything that we can find that will make you understand you will not continue treating people like this or take advantage of people without consequence so be prepaired.
What a great tips. I will be writing down all of this.
Ari thanks very much for the tips you always teach us. I have a question I would like to trade my 2018 Toyota Camry. It the current time good to do it. I want an AUDI A3
Where is the auto fico link ?
My used car is kinda jacked up and I guess I’m afraid that if I try to trade in the car that they wouldn’t buy my car for what I want!
10 years in the business. What you want doesn’t determine the value of your car. There are many places to find value. (KBB sucks)
i usually just say one thing. do you do this price out the door or i go?
