The big problem for the Allies bringing in Patton's units from the south, is that the terrain isn't friendly for off-road movement. You can either go west towards Bastonge or east towards areas around Clervaux. Either way you need bridges and control of the road net.
For sure. If I remember correctly, 7th Army was intended to secure the left flank of 5th PzA as they advanced, but I could never see how they had enough resources to ever perform that function.
