They could run a whole series on working with kids, and kids with disabilities, and I'd watch every one of them.... warms the heart! This girl will go far in life - can tell already - great confidence and poise! :)
Glad to see she's not letting having only one hand keep her from doing things she wants. Was cool how Tommy pretty much let her do most of it herself. He's a great teacher.
What a fine young lady! She was most impressive, even before I saw she only had one hand. She had great tv presence and did a great job with the power tools. Tommy is a wonderful mentor! Thank you This Old House!
I think you found your “retirement” job Tommy! You have been teaching your craft to so many over the years and now you are teaching the next generation and doing it in your usual humble manner. You were patient and gave that little girl a whole new level of confidence and skills. Good on you!
I couldn’t help but cry watching this. It’s so sweet watching you teach her how to use all those tools. She did a fantastic job. Her parents should be very proud!
Well that's just the nicest thing I've seen in a while . Teacher and student both excellent . And that girl could not be cuter, and Tom really taught her as she went along.
Tommy helped a young person build a tool box not too long ago, and it was a heartwarming video that's stayed with me. This one is it's equal and then some.
This is probably my favorite This Old House video ever. I would watch 200 of these two together. Tommy is just the best. Camilla killed it, way to go kid!
She's darling. And I have to say - this young girl did more than most of your homeowners do on a project! Hats off to This Old House for empowering the next generation. Great job to the young lady!
Am I the only one that teared up watching Tommy assist her? That was amazing work she did! And any tool manufacturers watching, there is a NEED to make tools for those with accessibility issues.
There are so many things to love about this video including how sweet and encouraging Tom is, how it shows girls as potential woodworkers, how it gently demonstrates that a differently-abled person can do this and a great project to boot. I'm about to turn 68 and ever since I spent Saturday mornings in hardware stores with my dad, I have loved tools. Shout out to the McEwing Brothers in Port Jefferson Station. I'm sure they are long gone but I can hear their Scottish accents in my head today.
People who dislike our garbage they only care about themselves not about other people like this person. You’re amazing keep doing what you love and God bless you and your family
What a fantastic clip!! What a great little girl!! And Tommy is the grandpa I never knew!! This clip brought tears of happiness to my eyes! Well done and thank you!
One hand or not, woodworking is all skill and she used the tools like a pro already. Good thing she has one of the greatest carpenters of this generation as a teacher. Even with a handicap she is more than capable of doing this trade by using clamps and vises as a tool and an extra set of hands for her. Very happy to see it’s not stopping her and looks to be really enjoying it. Good luck to you, don’t let anyone say you can’t be something you want to be and don’t ever say you can’t do something you want to do, this is proof. Where there is a will there’s a way as long as you have the patience and the heart to do it “can’t” does not exist and she definitely has the heart and motivation. Keep up the good work Tommy, you’re one of the reasons I’m in this trade and the reason the new generation is proud and excited to be learning it.
Heart warming and sad at the same time. What a brave, pretty girl. Tommy was a great teacher for this project. I hope she tries another wood project in the future.
In my over forty years of watching this Old House And New Yankee Workshop this episode is the best of any I have seen To see a young lady with a little inconvenience not let here stop pursuing her passion was very moving. And to watch Tom work with her was just the best,. Another Home Run For PBS and This Old House Thank You
That was so awesome, never let anyone tell you you can't do something. But enjoy PROVING them wrong young lady. Godspeed to ya . Keep fighting and never give up.
Every kid should have the knowledge and skills to build something. The confidence of knowing you made something yourself is a feeling every kid should feel. So glad to see them passing knowledge to a new generation.
So wonderful to see the young folks getting involved in these projects. Tom has the gift of patience to pass along the tricks of the trade. A rare quality in crusty old contractors (smile)!
There needs to be more videos like this from TOH not just people with disabilities but kids of all ages to show how fun and interesting different trades are.
Tommy being this good with children is such a pleasant surprise :) A lot of TV personalities who don‘t deal with children as part of their job seem to be kinda awkward around them, but he was just natural, gentle and encouraging! I‘m so glad children, especially young girls who can have a hard time getting into jobs like this, can learn from him!
I love seeing kids that are keen on creating and Camilla is a little legend! I am also pretty sure that she is faster and far more accurate than I am, yet i've got both hands!! Camilla has a bright future. Well done.
Great job of teaching by Tommy, and kudos to the girl's parents for raising such an attentive and respectful daughter. I'll go along with the other comments that say bring her back again.
You are the best instructor and I’m glad to see that she tackles projects that people with two hands won’t,. Thank you for having these instructional videos😊
I like this series already, tommy is a good teacher and respectful one towards her disability/ability whichever way you decide to look at it. She’s only a beginner carpenter and better then a lot of people even with one hand. She’s dedicated too you can see that
I hated woodworking at school and now I absolutely love it. It's amazing that the schools can take the fun out of even something like woodworking... Btw, she drills better looking pocket holes than I do.
As a wood shop teacher I'm sorry to hear that. All of my students seem to love working in my class. Maybe it was your teacher? Glad you are doing it now.
When I went to school we had 2 years of wood shop and 1 year of metal shop. Helped me decide that my future was with my hands. Went to a trade high school. That school district along with others eliminated elementary shop classes, wish they would reinstate it. I learned so much.
My shop teacher was one of the best there is... I’ll never forget he was teaching us about tools, picks up a file and goes “now this is a mill file, not a milf file” our class laughed hysterically
@@Supermuttt Perhaps it was a trifecta of my own immaturity at the time, the teacher of the class and the imposed curriculum that made dislike the woodworking classes. The focus was very traditional and may I say tedious. I'm currently more of a pocket-hole kind of woodworker who likes to see results and I'm not all that interested in hand cutting dovetail joints. Nor is my current skill set good enough to make any fine joinery. But I've recently got a a small lathe and that was a lot more fun than I thought!
I love teaching woodworking to kids. Kids like her make it easy because she has a great willingness to learn and listens. Kudos to Tommy. He is an outstanding teacher.
Best part was that they did not call attention to her missing hand and let her use the tools just like any other kid her age. Great example of not letting a handicap stop you from doing something you’re interested in.
This was great to watch. I wish I had kids that were as ambitious as she is to learn and make great things from scratch. She is learning lots of valuable skills and realizing you can make items that will have a personal touch and have more meaning than going to a store and purchasing the item. I look forward to seeing more videos like this one in the future. Great Job
They could run a whole series on working with kids, and kids with disabilities, and I'd watch every one of them.... warms the heart! This girl will go far in life - can tell already - great confidence and poise! :)
This wonderful young lady is being taught by wood working royalty! Tommy is great craftsman and respectful teacher.
she's so adorable! gotta say if I were to let anyone teach my kid how to use power tools it would be that man right there. Tom knows his stuff.
Glad to see she's not letting having only one hand keep her from doing things she wants. Was cool how Tommy pretty much let her do most of it herself. He's a great teacher.
I never even noticed till you said that. Girl is a champ.
OG Camilla
5 stars Tommy, there's a reason why you guys are the best.
Very glad to see Tommy passing on his immeasurable knowledge to a new generation

Best!
Well that's just the nicest thing I've seen in a while . Teacher and student both excellent . And that girl could not be cuter, and Tom really taught her as she went along.
She’s amazing bring her back!
Needs to be part of the show, heck yeah the next generation!!!!!
Tommy helped a young person build a tool box not too long ago, and it was a heartwarming video that's stayed with me. This one is it's equal and then some.
Best this old house ever. The others were great but this one had the human touch. What’s great also is she WANTS to learn
Just saw the newest episode with Camilla. Love her love of woodworking! And who wouldn't want Tom Silva as their teacher/mentor?!!
I enjoyed watching her use tools with no fear.
Oh boy, this girl is so focused eye is fixed on what she is doing, Tommy you are a brilliant teacher as well.
Am I the only one that teared up watching Tommy assist her? That was amazing work she did! And any tool manufacturers watching, there is a NEED to make tools for those with accessibility issues.

It's great to see she learned her lesson on how to operate tools with safety. Tom is a good teacher.
This episode is worthy of a Emmy what a beautiful young lady and Tommy’s the best there is. Very heart warming
I love these episodes with Tommy and Camilla. She seems so sweet, and I love that she so into making. And Tommy really shines as a teacher with her.
People who dislike our garbage they only care about themselves not about other people like this person. You’re amazing keep doing what you love and God bless you and your family

I was smiling the whole time watching.

5 stars is not enough! Brava!
It's very commendable that TOH teaches this to someone with lesser abilities, so that there's no excuse for those of us with more abilities.
That was so awesome, never let anyone tell you you can't do something. But enjoy PROVING them wrong young lady. Godspeed to ya . Keep fighting and never give up.
Lincoln is lucky to have a wonderful friend like Camilla!
Every kid should have the knowledge and skills to build something. The confidence of knowing you made something yourself is a feeling every kid should feel. So glad to see them passing knowledge to a new generation.
TOH needs to bring her back as a recurring guest. Great job!
So wonderful to see the young folks getting involved in these projects. Tom has the gift of patience to pass along the tricks of the trade. A rare quality in crusty old contractors (smile)!

Absolutely spot on about the young lady's parents!
And young lady just got on with it. Can't ask for for more than that.
She killed it! Great job young lady
Sharp kid. Very polite.
That's an impressive young lady! What a good job handling those power tools and following a design.
You are the best instructor and I’m glad to see that she tackles projects that people with two hands won’t,.
Thank you for having these instructional videos😊

Wood shop at school is what got involved with woodworking for the past 37 years!
Great video, let that kid do stuff that most people wouldn’t let her try. No limits for her, good job
Perfect reason to subscribe; brought a tear to my eye to see the confidence that young girl gained as she completed that wood working project.
Loving this! Awesome job. Bring her back.
I love teaching woodworking to kids. Kids like her make it easy because she has a great willingness to learn and listens. Kudos to Tommy. He is an outstanding teacher.
This young lady is extremely talented!
Awesome she is interested in woodworking. Excellent episode!
I'm certain this young lady will carry this experience with her for a long time.
What an inspirational video! Kudos to the young lady for tackling that project like a pro!
Very talented young lady she's going to be going places
So awesome.. Tommy is a GREAT TEACHER
Best part was that they did not call attention to her missing hand and let her use the tools just like any other kid her age. Great example of not letting a handicap stop you from doing something you’re interested in.
This is why I subscribed to this channel! Great project and video!!
That was awesome to watch. The best thing was Tommy wasn’t high fiving after every step, that’s a sign of a pro teacher.
So nice to see something so encouraging for youngsters
Nicely done, young lady. Great work, Tommy.
I was impressed with this young girl from the start even more so when discovered she only has one working arm.
Leo Howard her arms work fine just missing a hand
God bless you Tommy.
What a lovely young lady
This was great to watch. I wish I had kids that were as ambitious as she is to learn and make great things from scratch. She is learning lots of valuable skills and realizing you can make items that will have a personal touch and have more meaning than going to a store and purchasing the item. It's great to see young people and this young lady get into working with their hands.
Back when I was in high school they didn't even have a shop class. It's good to see young people like this young lady learn from the best in Tommy.
Tommy what a great way to pass on your knowledge and skills to our young fellas. I like their smile lots n lots
Nice too see Tommy giving her a hand with things
Such great job from this young lady, she pushed thru with nothing holding her back. Great Video TOH Crew...
Most wholesome video ever! :)
Great video Tommy! A future woodworker in the making.
That was awesome! She is amazing and Tom was an amazing teacher!!!!!!!!!!
She did a great job. My 11 year old daughter loves helping me build stuff.
Excellent Tommy! I enjoyed that. Inspirational. You’re the best Tom.

What a little champion. Nice video. 👍
That is a great little girl she will do great things.
Please bring her back!
Great teacher Tom and awesome little worker Camilla
Cool video. I did a double take om the drill bit section. The way the video was shot made the drill bit look like it was going in reverse.
Beautiful and smart little girl
A true hero and Tommy is okay too...
Very inspiring. Thank you both!
Making great memories.
OMG. She’s amazing!
