Love that you are doing the very same thing! (from a boomer who grew up surfing early 60’s CA, 60’s NS Oahu & early 70’s Oz … who went onto other things … and now at 73 want to go back to doing the same thing!)
This is so amazing. We surfed Killer Dana, Doheny Beach. I grew up in Corona del Mar in the 50s and 60s, Hung out at Big Corona. i can't believe anybody had a camera back then. I know that Greg McGillvarey did and was shooting surfing movies before anybody
The first surfing references were found in Polynesia. Cave painting from the 12th Century show people riding on waves. In the course of seafarings, Polynesians brought surfing to Hawaii and the sport went viral. Surfing in Hawaii wasn't only a sport but also an important part of the religion.
Life was better then...quality of life better. You had friends, no cell phones or computers to waste your time with, and girls oh boy girls and music. We were healthy. I'm 75 now and don't waste time looking back but now and then?
Thanks for your amazing video. Great historical material - and I really appreciate the level of the surfing that your dad and his friends were achieving. I some very graceful Dora like moves in there. It's like a Bruce or Bud Browne 'lost reel'. And thanks for not "copyright striking" this - it's shady and low budget for him to steal it... But I wonder if I would have seen this otherwise.
"If we didn't stop them we'd all be speaking German" Really folks? You think they wouldn've seen this and thrown that guy into camps? They would've been like "Appears our work is done here, turn around and go back" Gee, I wonder who could've hated this image...Hint: They don't look like the surfer guy
