- Today on JD Cars we’re installing the new M-Sport steering wheel that I picked up from Mathew on marketplace. I’ve been waiting for a while to upgrade the wheel on this car and I’m so psyched to finally have this new M-Sport wheel installed! Overall, this isn’t a difficult process; it can be done with minimal hand tools, but you will need to be patient when removing the airbag (be sure to disconnect your battery before beginning the airbag removal process). If you haven’t driven with or felt an M-Sport steering wheel before, I highly recommend trying one out! I hope you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching. Dude removing that airbag was The biggest PITA for me. Took hours. Very smart to turn the wheel sideways. That's pretty genius

Try some leather cleaner it has ph like 6 I think. That should remove the oil shine from the hands. Let me know know if looks! And wrap rise do alcentera! I like the one with red for sure.
Nice work. I followed your technique and it worked after getting super frustrated. After installing the wheel I got driver restraint system error. What might be the issue it you could help bro??
Removing the negative lead is much better practice when removing a battery. Also you can close the boot lock manually so there's 0 chance of closing that boot 👍

I want to do this with my F36 (430i GC ‘17) but every m sport steering wheel i find custom or OEM all say that it wouldn’t fit my car. Right now I have the same steering wheel as you had. Any idea on if it’s even possible ? Great vid btw

I have a 2015 f36, literally the same car with minor differences but for changing the steering wheel its pretty much the same. Currently I have the stock wheel with paddle shifters, and heated steering. I want to switch over to the mstyle wheel eventually.
I don't really use my shifters ever so would I be able to get a new steering wheel without the paddle shifters and install it without having any problems? And also the heated steering wheel, does it need to be specified when buying that it's able to accommodate that? Hope you're able to help out! Awesome channel👊🏼
Yes and yes! You can do exactly what I did which is install a new msport wheel without paddles but with the heated function. You'll need to make sure the new wheel is heated (equipped with the heating strip inside). The seller should advertise this.

Changing steerings doesn’t affect functionality of the wheel ? all those buttons are working volume etc
Great video! Can you explain if there is one wire harness or two on the steering wheel itself. I am like you and have the heated wheel function so not sure if that is a separate harness. Thanks!
One harness, but there is an additional connection inside the cowling that I removed in the video.
How do you rotate the wheel when it’s locked ?
So I have a non Msport 535 that doesn’t have paddle shifters, would I need anything on top of an m sport steering wheel with paddle shifters to switch it over and have it functional ?

That’s great, and easy to do, but the biggest concerns are the buttons functions and most importantly airbag module controls, did it require reset?

Remove the positive, only? Maybe I missed it. Thought we only really need to remove the negative? Every video I’ve seen except yours has said to remove only the negative connection on battery.
@ 10:03 you said its a dual-stage airbag but yours is actually triple stage (3 connectors on the back vs. just two). I was wondering if you knew whether or not there's a huge difference between them because I cant find anything online about it.

No it doesn't. You can add paddle shifters to non steering wheel car
Hey man, did your heating keep working after you installed new m sport wheel coz mine stopped working.. light doesent go on in the heating button
Yes it still works. I would check the heated wheel connections to make sure they're still good.

is the new steering wheel from the same generation or a newer generation? Can a 2020 wheel fit on a 2014 car?
I'm not sure if a 2020 wheel would fit a 2014-- unlikely it would wiring wise. This wheel was from the same generation (F30) 3 series.
Do you think a 2014 f30 (328i non sport version) is already pre wired for paddles?

Sorry for the late response! We hope to offer steering wheel upgrades soon, but I'd suggest eBay in the meantime. Lots of pre-owned M-sport steering wheels there

How are you turning the wheel with the battery disconnected ?
The steering wheel can still turn without the battery connected... it's just really hard to turn 😂

I purchased steering wheel with eu airbag and coded driver’s airbag from us to eu.
M-Wheel with paddle shifters and airbag cost me €350 in almost new condition, from 2017 f30.
Just an idea how to save money on this conversion)

I live in EU but my car is imported from US. Can i fit EU steering wheel and airbag?
A K yes you can, but you need to code appropriate type of the airbag for your vehicle. US and EU airbags are different - US is dual-stage, EU is single-stage.

Does it function as a standard euro airbag than? What about the other airbags in the vehicle
A K it’s absolutely safe. You should code only airbag in the steering wheel. Other airbags leave as is. After coding your vehicle will “know” what type of airbag installed and works correctly.
My BMW has no errors or warnings after installation and coding.
