    If I may ask, why do you not use fluted filter paper during the filtering process instead of normal folded filter paper?

      I find that the folded one works just as well :) and I am sometimes too lazy to fold it in the fluted way haha!

    I got transferred to chemistry department in university.
    My parents suggests that I change to another course because chemistry doesn't pay.
    Is that true?
    What are the career opportunities of chemistry

    • @drjessicagomezb
      @drjessicagomezb  8 місяців тому

      Hi! It really depends what you choose to do - if you want to stay as a scientist afterwards and work in research then the pay is not high if you stay in academia, it might be more in an industry position. If you decide to use the skills developed during a chemistry degree for a job related to finance then you would likely get paid more. Science generally isn’t a very high paid field initially until you move up the ladder to more managerial positions (like with any job) then you can start to earn more.

    Ma'am I love your videos, I have a question please guide me.
    I have a 7.69 cgpa In my graduation, in my masters I have 8 cgpa is this accademic background is decent to apply for PhD ,or it is just my day dream to think about PhD. I am so confused please guide me is my accademic is good enough or bad that I can't afford a phd position there.please please answer

      @drjessicagomezb  Рік тому +1

      Hello! I’m afraid I’m not familiar with the cgpa system so I don’t know if it enough or not. I think you would be better to speak to the professors in your school and ask what grade they look for when selecting students for a PhD. Good luck!

    Are there any black British PhD Chemistry students in UK universities nowadays or is it still whites and Asians only?

    • @drjessicagomezb

      If you go online you can usually find diversity reports from different universities, you should be able to find out your answer there!

      @@drjessicagomezb Diversity reports can hide many sins !
      UK black students studying for PhDs in the Biochemistry department, for example, does not mean things have changed in UK Chemistry departments.
      Plus I used to tick the Information Refused box on application forms when I was a postgraduate, because the department won't know from my name it is a Caribbean they have invited along for an interview.

    Hey ! JESSICA
    I have lots of questions regarding PhD courses.
    My first question is - How many years to take complete full time PhD in US & UK?
    My second question is - How many publications or research papers a student publish of their full time PhD in USA & UK?
    My third question is - When a student completes their entire PhD course within the stipulated time, Can that student get the opportunity of assistant prof. under any famous university in the world?
    My fourth question is - Can a junior professor who has just entered a university work side by side as a physicist while teaching?
    Please answer all my questions properly. I am interested to know. I am very worried about my future education.
    I hope you will give my all questions answers. Please tell me in detail.
    Thank you 🙏🇮🇳

      @drjessicagomezb  Рік тому +2

      Hi Sourav,
      Here’s some answers to your questions.
      1. Usually in the U.K. it takes 3-4 years and in the USA 5-6 years
      2. It depends on the school/department. Some schools don’t have a requirement for publishing a paper before you finish your PhD and others do. Some phd students will graduate with no publications and others will graduate with a few.
      3. Not exactly. Usually after a PhD you would go on to a post doctoral research associate position to do research as staff in a university. After this then it is possible to start lecturing. Lecturing positions are quite rare in the U.K. so it is very competitive and difficult to become a lecturer.
      4. I don’t really understand this question!
      Hope this helps:)

    • @drjessicagomezb
      @drjessicagomezb  Рік тому +1

      Hi, in the U.K. we have a position after a PhD called a post doctoral researcher and often you will teach will doing this position. Some professors also do their own research in the labs while teaching but PhD students and post docs usually do the research instead of professors because they don’t have a lot of time (in most cases)

    • @souravnatta2751
      @souravnatta2751 Рік тому +1

      @@drjessicagomezb Now I understood the meaning of your words. Thank you very much. But, I don't understand one thing that is you said that some professors do their own research in labs along with teaching. So is it a PhD research?
      Because ,You said that any student, after doing MSc, cannot be appointed as a professor under any university until that student completes their own Ph.D & post doc.

    • @souravnatta2751
      @souravnatta2751 Рік тому +1

      @@drjessicagomezb Because, I have seen many teachers/professors of many universities in India, they are teaching students as professors and besides doing their own PhD, post doc. How is this possible? You said, after completing post doc, a person can become a professor.
