Denzel is great but the Oscar he got for this movie was not deserved, he should have gotten it for his portrayal of Malcolm X. Ethane Hawke deserved it more for supporting actor which he did not get. As good as Denzel is he has a few actors ahead of him for GOAT, Daniel Day Lewis who plays Billy the Butcher in Gangs of New York, Wacking Fenicks who plays Comados in Gladiator and Joker, and the GOAT Marlon Brando who played Vitto Corleone in The Godfather. There’s also Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Costner who are all in the same class as Denzel.

Denzel played a great role in this movie.
To be fair I think that’s vastly underselling his performance. Like the Joker in TDK, the script is excellent but the leads help it reach new levels.
denzel washington and ethan hawke is both so good in this movie... denzels role is based on a true cop named rafael perez. he was a corrupt LA police officer that did all kind of crazy shit. some people accuses him for being behind biggie smalls murder and accuses him for being a member of bloods:P. but this is one of my favorite movies for sure...denzel is also one of my favorite actors

This movie came out right after the 9-11 Attacks and most people didn't hear about this movie until a couple of years later after its debut at the theaters. I remember watching this for the first time around 2005 and my bro said it didn't get a big movie theatre debut because of the Attacks.

The Mount Rushmore of greatest actors of all time are Marlon Brando, Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington and Daniel Day Lewis nothing tops those guys. Great reaction and excellent movie.
As much as I love this film the fact it took so long for Denzel to win "Best Actor," and he hasn't won since this film is a travesty.

Seeing this move then Man of Fire I am shocked how much range Denzel has an actor. Also a small detail Alonzo says on the phone ‘Make sure the bathtub is clean’ means he fully planned to have Jake killed despite all his talk of ‘You have what it takes Jake to be leader and change things.’ the only thing he didn’t count on was Jake’s good deed of saving Smiley’s cousin being the one hitch in his ‘plan’.

This is a mediocre movie by a mediocre director with a good but overacted performance by Denzel. Dude deserved an Oscar long before this performance. Its a joke. Like Joaquin Phoenix winning for the joker. Garbage movie mediocre performance.

At 13:00 - He stole the money because it was roughly half a weeks pay compared to his paycheck. You see, grasshopper, a dirty cop does this several times a week. It's easy for them if they feel like the person deserves it. This movie is a lesson on duality in the "human condition". Great video!!

Training Day is a really good movie. Denzel earned his Oscar for sure. Halle Berry got one the same year for Monster's Ball. That movie was decent, but Training Day is really something else.
Denzel and Ethan also star together in The Magnificent Seven, which is a remake of a classic western with the same name. Very good movie.
Jake's wife was played by Charlotte Ayanna. She won Miss Teen USA in 1993, so you were technically right about her looking like a model.
Alonzo's wife was played by Eva Mendes, which is really all i need to say😂🤷🏿♂️.

What most people don't know is that there is another version of the end scene that was deleted from the original version. That Benz you see at the end where Jake pulls up to his house actually has the members of the high table that Alonzo spoke with earlier to get the warrant. They confront Jake to collect the money that Alonzo was going to pay the Russians, but Jake already had turned it into evidence, telling them that's what a cop is supposed to do, right? So Jake ends his training day with a clear conscience however he loses favor with the higher ups being a "boyscout" cop.
This was Terry Cruz's first movie. He said he was there for security and the director saw him and asked him if he wanted to be in the movie.
This is Denzel’s greatest role in my opinion!! Such a fantastic film

I like how many reactors at the beginning of the film are all up in Jake's (Ethan Hawke's character) grill; like he's some noob and weak dude.
But by the end of the film he proves IS the better man - compared to ALL the other "wolves" or "hero cops" and department officials.
13:52 if you notice in the background when the gang members keep their mouth shut it isn't until Alonzo leaves that they say what they say about him, but whats interesting is that you can tell their scared from a filmmaker perspective because when they voice their concern you can hear sirens in the background symbolizing Alonzo has power over them, it isn't until Jake takes alonzo's badge that the gang members dont see him as a cop anymore symbolizing the fact theyre no longer threatened by him and they stand up for Jake seeing him as a real person

Fun Fact: Eminem was intended to play the role of Jake Hoyt, but they decided to go in another direction. I believe this was for the best, as I can’t see Denzel having the drive to produce a performance like this without Ethan Hawke, who also garnered a supporting acting nomination for this. To me Denzel and Ethan truly brought out the best in one another. If Eminem would have played Jake, the director and Denzel would have been too busy trying doctor a performance out of him.

They call that neighborhood the Jungles because that’s where the Black P Stones hood is at. They actually were able to film in the neighborhood and use the people that live there as extras for those scenes.

My homie performed in this movie, he was one of the dudes at the bottom of the steps in the scene where Alonso paid the Mexican homies to kill officer Hoyt. He walks up to Officer Hoyt aka Ethan Hawke and tells him “what you lookin at”. As usual loved this homegirls style of reviewing movies. I read foos complaining she talks too muthufuckan much but that’s BS cuz her talking makes you feel like you sitting there with her watching the movie.
