IMO the ending in this game is supposed to be the Hexagon collapsing on itself and then all the energy (walls, shapes, ETC) that it absorbed is released back out
The end used a random generation engine to make everything but since that level switches the number of sides that "impossible shape", if ran normally would've opened into a hexagon with a space in it. It's supposed to look that impossible because it opens.

All this Life speeding up theories, Here's mine. The levels are you playing through are the big crunch (the universe collapsing in on itself) and then the ending is the universe exploding as the big bang letting another cycle of the universe start.
