I always though it sounded like they were on their way to making a pina colada and never quite got the rest of the ingredients (but I guess it doesn't always have lime in it, now that I look at a few recipes) :)
That song was released in 1971, I was 14 years old and I remember it well. The song was on the Top Billboard for 14 weeks, reaching all the way to #8. Kind of a silly Caribbean vibe song that is both fun and makes you feel good. Can't ask much more than that from a song. Great reaction, was good to revisit that one.
Harry Neilson was one of the most beloved behind the scenes characters in rock, a member of the infamous Holly Vampires drinking club, and besties with Alice Cooper, John Lennon and Micky Dolenz of the Monkees, to name but a few. You definitely want to learn more about him. Mel, as usual, your hair is super cute!
Nilsson had the best backup vocals-his own. This is one of the typical and ingenious vocal overdubbing found on so many of his albums. If I remember correctly, _Nilsson Schmilsson_ was sung _entirely_ by Nilsson. All the vocals are his. Or almost all of them. He’s my favorite singer-songwriter. I have all of his music and I am still hearing new things when I listen to it. John Lennon and Paul McCartney were famously asked at a 1968 press conference who _their_ favorite band was. Both agreed: Nilsson.
@@DawnSuttonfabfour Hahahahaha, good thing I love that song cuz here we go again! You got me singing it all over again. Good One!! ... I said "Doctor...."
I do actually remember when this song came out - with a group of collage friends, at the local bar, on many a night/early morning hour, with everyone singing and dancing along to this song blasting out of the juke box. Nice to see you two getting into it just like we did all those years ago.
I hate to rag on you but you went to college & cant even spell it...lol! I feel your vibes tho as I am from that generation of music as well - PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS ✌❤☮
This song was in the movie PRACTICAL MAGIC where the girls were conga dancing and making drinks in the kitchen at midnight. So many of his songs pop up to this day in movies ...
This Harry Nilsson first solo song on his debut album which he sang and wrote all the music to.....he tore this song up!!!!Everyone was singing the Coconut song every where!!!! Love me some Harry Nilsson!!!!
Love Harry Nilsson & especially this song, just makes you feel like dancing 💃🥰. Add this to a Street Dancing playlist & get your neighbours grooving to Harry Nilsson !🕺💥
One of my favorite comments about this song was made by someone named JK: "This is absolute production and songwriting GENIUS. I love how it pulls on the time and feels like it is about to go flying off the track, such beautiful subtle manipulation of time, dynamics, very slight phrase adjustments (sometimes called phasing), mind melting harmonies, and off such a simple little riff. Brilliant." I couldn't say it any better.
This is absolutely an amazing piece of songwriting. One chord... a C7. Does this song repeat itself? Nope. It is a coherent dialog. The intensity builds until the coda. ('Call me in the morning.') Harry uses voices to distinguish between the characters. The background vocals (by Harry) play with the repeats and rhythmns. This was on a jukebox somewhere, and someone played this perhaps five times in a row. I'll tell you what -- Time just stopped. It was a moment that lasted forever. Want a banger? Try 'Jump into the Fire.' Those smooth reactions were perfect for this funny little earworm of a song.
Genius!!!!🥥🌴 (Just for fun, I left a lime & a coconut on Harry's grave on his birthday when I was passing thru Southern Cal. 🙂💕) (Karen Carpenter is also buried there.)
Every kid lived this song growing up and it's been a fave of many film directors to include in their sound tracks. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman dance around to this entire song and it was used in pulp fiction. It's become something of a cult 79s eclectic favorite tune.
I was always impressed by the progression of the music in this song, mellow at the beginning then gradually getting more chaotic at the end. A true masterpiece of sound and insane vocals and hell yeah it's a bunch of fun. Good on you beautiful people for appreciating it.
It's getting old telling you how much I ❤ you guys. From now on I will bury you in a request. I know how much you both love great music and great performers. This is the second time I've made this request. React to kd lang performing live one of 2 songs, you can't go wrong with either. The songs are Hallelujah and Crying. If you choose Crying make sure she is not in a duet with the great Roy Orbison. It's his song and he gave it to kd Lang and it is best when she sings it alone. From now on I will just text kd lang until you can't refuse. 😎
Harry was a freaking musical genius who seemed to appear out of nowhere, got the attention of The Beatles, and had a brief run on top before going off on a self-destructive tangent. Some of his stuff is hilarious ("silly woman ... if you call me in the morning I'll tell you what to do") like THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WORLD IN THE WORLD, JOY, THE MOONBEAM SONG or sad and melancholy like REMEMBER, WITHOUT YOU, or rocking like JUMP INTO THE FIRE.
Just a silly little ditty that makes you smile. 😊They used to be a lot of those in the 1960s, 70s and 80s and even into the 90s. Now it’s all doom and gloom.
Harry Nilsson wrote many songs for other artists that they had success with. Harry had only 3 hits, "Without You", "Coconut" and "Everybody's Talkin'", but, I consider "Jump Into The Fire" as a hit, besides "Without You" I think it's better than the other 2 that are considered hits, it just rocks.
Harry Nilsson was widely overlooked in his time, RIP Harry, because he never played many concerts, only a handful in his entire career, but his albums are fun. Especially "Schmilsson", the album this song is on. If you haven't yet, "Jump Into The Fire" should be next on your list. But do be careful with "You're Breaking My Heart", it goes THERE.
This is a summertime song for sure. I was really young with this came out. It was played over the stereo at the swimming pool I used to go too. We all LOVED it. It made us laugh at each other listening to it. So fun.
Thank you for reviewing one of my all time favorite artists, Harry Nilsson. Check out Good Old Desk (G.O.D.), Everybody's Talkin' (from Midnight Cowboy), The Puppy Song and so many others. Gotta Get Up is a great one, too.
This was a fun and cute reaction. Loved it! A well deserved reaction for an insanely talented man. I just want to know what obscure ventures did he get into that this song came out of him. He was a wild music man for a long time. Edited: watched this twice it was so much fun 😄

Love this song, so glad you chose to react to it...however, good luck getting it out of your head for several days!!! '...she called the doctor, woke him up and said doctor...'
This song was used to great effect in an episode of "Bones". The characters all said farewell to a departed friend/coworker by singing this song as his body was taken away. It had been his favorite song. They somehow made a sad moment make the viewers smile.💙☮
This has always been a fun ride! Gets ya in the mood to drink something fun! 😹 It's also been used frequently in movies. It's simply a special kinda song that makes you feel a special kinda way. Thank you so much for sharing! 😽💋🎶
Another great Nilsson song in the same album is "Gotta Get Up." Also for your consideration, on Lou Reeds "Rock n' Roll Animal", the *intro* to "Sweet Jane" (an instrumental), or "Sweet Jane" itself. Thanks!
A daiquiri made with coconut flavored rum is called a Harry Nilsson, because to make it you have to, you know, put the lime in the coconut.
I always though it sounded like they were on their way to making a pina colada and never quite got the rest of the ingredients (but I guess it doesn't always have lime in it, now that I look at a few recipes) :)
Hairy Nilsson...
Three of my favorite coconut, rum, and Harry Nilsson. Perfect!😄
I knew you 2 would enjoy this, you seem like fun people. 😅
Fun fact: when this album came out the critics called harry out for not acknowledging his backup singers it turned out harry was his backup singers
Awesome song and reaction to the great Harry. Now you gotta do "Jump Into The Fire" next...it will blow your minds. guaranteed !!!!
Herbie Flowers sets the tempo with his iconic bass intro to JITF! Gotta hear it!

His only #1 which ironically he didn't write. His song "One" was also a #1 hit, but only the version sung by Three Dog Night.
