That exactly sums it up. Electron apps can be …“ok”. Some of us have been Mac users and 1Password users because we’re simply not ok with apps just being “ok”. We prefer excellence and we’re paying for that. And from what I gather, many of us will be taking our business elsewhere.
What happened to the ability to drag the order of items are in a section, to me the biggest feature i need once i have entered some new fields I don't see it, is it actually gone if so, i will be either staying on 7 or moving to another password manager.
Hi Matt: I am using 1Password for Mac v8, and I do not see the "additional recovery options" you referenced in your video. Can you please provide more information about this new feature?
Not supporting local vaults on your machine is the biggest mistake in version 8. They are forcing everyone to upload their passwords to 1password servers. A total turnoff and risky based on how many companies get hacked. They become in control of your passwords and have the ability to restrict your access at anytime.
it's essentially the same damn thing.... i just signed up and switched over to 1PS8 from 1PS7 and didn't have to transfer any of my information over... it was already there.. doesn't that mean they were already storing them on their servers? And just because the information is stored on their servers doesn't mean it is not encrypted.
Most of the time, if you loose your master key, you're not in trouble, you have to reset all your passwords received via email links. So whatever you use, use 2 factor authentication for your email, ideally with a hardware token (so if your phone gets owned...).
I have version 7 of 1password, I installed version 8 in parallel. Unfortunately version 8 is currently in beta, so a lot of work is still ahead of the developer. The basic bug is that v8 doesn't import all vaults and synchronizes devices in such a way that we lose data! Such events will be disqualified by beta 8 for now.
Allegedly, Electron apps are slow and buggy, partially due to extra overhead. 1Password's app doesn't seem to exhibit any Electron-related problems, though.
Keepass is amazing! Very easy to use, works great on all operating systems, it is free (although I suggest donating to the team), it is constantly being updated and, as you said, it is open source. Which I would argue it is one of the most important things for a password managers. You never know when a company will change their business plan, nor when they will hire a different CEO with other expectations in mind. I am all open supporting the developers so they can build their software, but I really think 1password is really behind it. Especially now.
I have MacOS 12.4 and 1P8 Family and tried sharing the "Private" vault to the "Shared" vault. Not only is this impossible on the desktop, it is impossible on the iPhone app. The vids and work with 1P support were a waste of time and effort. It's crap. April 2023
Electron app could be the killer for me. I would think it’s less secure and use way to many resources. Seems like a shortcut to me. I was thinking of switching to Apple because of their changes lately and I’m gonna take a look at that much harder.
No (and yes). The Family Sharing is only for purchased apps. If you want to have your partner (or more persons) in on the same subscription, you need to pay for the family plan (and not the individual plan).

Great unbiased review. I know Mac folks are upset about Electron, but on Windows 1P v8 is *way* better than v7 ever was.
True

Version 8 requires that you store your passwords in their cloud. How is that a good thing?
because it's encrypted.

I'm a new subscriber to 1password8. I'm new to using a password manager and haven't a clue what I'm doing.

Helpful rundown to help me decide on upgrading from 7-8. Boy you can talk fast! Thanks!
What is the problem with Electron apps?

One of my only subscription worth paying for.
If I sign up for this app do I have to populate all my passwords or does this app capture all my passwords through the app?
Thank you for the awesome video, is 1Password 8 optimized for Apple M1 chip? because 1Password 7 runs natively on Apple Silicon.
Would love to see a video looking at open-source password databases (for example Keepass and KeepassXC fork for macs)
Also, Bitwarden.

What is UI?

No words about 1password Mini ? What the !?
It will be nice when 1Password fixes Watchtower on iPad. The app crashes 100% when I open Watchtower.
What the hell is an "Electron Ap" vs something else ???? You are not clear on your info

@V Keerthi Vikram I really don't think it would be any less secure than before, just from my knowledge
1Password 8 functions just like 1Password 7, quit spreading nonsense.
@@spencercarruth9706 Amén!!
Thanks for the insight and shifting my focus to Electron. Besides of that matter I really don‘t like the new UI.
I lost my iPhone, how do I install 1 password 7 again? I don’t want to suscribe
Gracias!
nice video! Keep up the good work :)
How about Family Sharing, will a subscription cover both my Partner and I through Family Sharing?

i love ur vids. thx 🙏
Electron is shit! they kill the app, is very sad. Thumbs Down!
