I believe Knipex created the Alligator pliers first..not the Cobra pliers...Alligator pliers were around in 1972..☝️which were ALSO better than Channellock pliers
The NWS and Felo sre the same. The NWS chrome plate seems to make it slip. But you can get NWS in different finishes. I have NWS and they are excellent tools
Can confirm, the chrome finished pliers usually don't have teeth as sharp as the other versions I have NWS and Knipex. NWS look fancier and their grips are great, but I prefer Knipex quality as there's not much price difference if you shop around
It's cool you tracked down the actual Knipex test device. I think the curved shape of the jaws is a huge improvement over the Channellocks also. Have you done anything like this with the various pliers-wrench brands? Wiha is German made. Thanks!
Awesome video man. Havent seen a comparison video like this. I bout the auto adjust wiha cobra type pliers and ended up selling them because i didmt like the mechanism. Nothing has come close the the cobras i have. I will say... the mini kobalt pliers wrench/ cobra pliers are pretty good, im not even trolling lol obviously not knipex but i was surprised how well they have held up and how similar the mechanisms are.
The new Klein pump pliers lineup at Lowe's with orange handles are made in Taiwan. The hybrid pliers wrench is made in USA and the yellow handle are made in USA and another yellow handle that came out before the USA models is made in Germany by NWS. The standard channellock style pump pliers from Klein are all made in USA. The Wiha pliers are designed in Germany but made in Vietnam. Almost all of Wiha pliers are made in Vietnam. The Felo are rebranded NWS again, made in Germany. The NWS handles are some of the best feeling handles. They made great diagonal cutters also.
The Wiha pliers are “Designed in Germany” and “professionally manufactured in Vietnam to Wiha Standards” or whatever marketing nonsense Wiha uses to justify using cheaper labor. Never been a huge fan of their Pliers anyway, solid Screwdriver and Hex Keys though. It’s interesting that the NWS slipped and the Felo didn’t given that both are manufactured by NWS. (Look at the shape of head and the cut outs) I’d chalk that up to the NWS having the chrome finish, which protects the pliers surface from rusting but ultimately gives you less of a grip due to the coating of the chrome on the teeth. With regards to Klein, if it’s orange dipped handle, leave it alone. That’s some budget (made in china) tool Klein is slapping their name on for Lowe’s (Part Number D505 10B) The Klein push button water pump plier USED to be made by NWS part number D504-10B. You can still get them but for the cost I’d just get the NWS for price difference.
@@Just_Putzin_Around that was my same assumption on the Chrome finish after pondering it a while. After hearing they were both made by NWS why was the chrome plier not gripping? Thanks for your insights
The biggest improvement Knipex made over Channellock’s design is the top handle closes the bottom jaw vs top jaw on Channellock. This allows you to use your whole body to assist with grip instead of relying on hand strength alone.
You should take another look at Channellock, and pretty much any other pump pliers. The top handle always actuates the bottom jaw, if it were inverted they would open rather than close like with snap ring pliers. They didn't even come up with that concept either, Wilde did in the 1930s with the angle nose slip joint. The benefit of the angle was described as making them grip better.
Where have you been....an exceptional selection of pliers. As a fan of Knipex...I really only buy pliers from them...and my oldest are Knipex Aligator (250 long)...still "Made in W.Germany"...maybe you know what that means😉...I mean "Western Germany"😲...yes - they are old...Aligator's would also be very interesting-a cheaper alternative for those who don't need such fine adjustments, but don't want to compromise on quality compared to Knipex Cobra.
Every one should have been tested on a new section, the Cobra will definitely grab, but with 235 pounds of weight pushing down, you definitely made the teeth dig into the tubing, to test the next few, they didn't need as much force, their teeth settled right into the Knipex teeth grooves
Some clarification on country of origin here. Almost all pliers from wiha are made in there Vietnam plant some good some bad. The only klein that are made in usa are yellow handle with reversible jaw and maybe some new klaw ones mabe. Most klein water pump pliers are a cash grab at that blue store made in China or Taiwan. I've seen some in the shelf say one or the other depends on how old it is. The felo are oem to nws as nws makes alot of people's pliers including some for Irwin milwaukee uk ect. Gedore and hazet are staples of made in Germany goodness and did as I'd expect. Knipex in the end are called German manglers around me and the guys there isn't much they can't bite into. There was a cnc machine threaded spindle made of tungsten with some carbide I was repairing years ago and thay was the only thing that managed to flatten knipex teeth. Still got it out without snapping it so that's good but leatherman bought me a new pair after that. This is why these pliers are a spend not a save. No thoes cheap kleins at half or a third less arnt as good or worth it. Everyone gets on a bandwagon to save but is it saving if you slip and break something or have to buy them twice or more?
@@MattHmm-rq6dn thanks for the clarification Matt and the views that I agree on, the one that really surprised me was the Gedore, I didn’t think I would like it as much as the Knipex, but I do
Fit and finish matters sometimes more than function. I'm reminded all the time the Denali az basics screwdriver has alot of torque but has garbage ergonomics. Price be darned I'm gonna use what's comfortable not nessarly what's cheap.
And if not mistaken NWS is Knipex's OEM brand its weird that way so essentially what are NWS are technically Knipex tools with different uhhh "face", so essentially same quality as a Knipex but different "form factor" if thats something relatable
Pliers are only of those tools that the extra you pay for top brands is worth it. Snap on and knipex are only $20-30 more than the competition and worth every penny
