I remember Maestro Nagano being the guest conductor when I played in the Oakland Youth Symphony back in the early ‘80s. He was just starting out on his career at the time.

Poor guy had to grow his hair long in order to keep his job as conductor. Just look at Seiji Ozawa. He grew his hair long, too. And Leonard Bernstein. So on, so on.
