Abbas Kiarostami's films resonate with me in a way that transcends verbal expression; they are therapeutic to me, especially during difficult times. They hold a deeply personal significance, evoking a profound sense of exposure and understanding, as if my innermost self is being laid bare and comprehended.
I don't have heros, but I´ll make an exception for Kiarostami. 1:42 this scene: the framing, the lighting, angle of view (camera), the directions given to make this scene, the eyes of the boy, the editing - it is perfection.
I know! I just saw the cover-picture of Nema-ye Nazdik (1990) and commented before I saw the video. He has made a lot of great films, but to me Nema-ye Nazdik is way way better than all his other films. I actually think Nema-ye Nazdik is one of the greatest films ever by any director.
I agree. I am in great awe of this artist.. to bad there will be no more movies from him. The first movie I saw was Close-Up. I rented it at the library in a small Norwegian town back in the ´90´s on VHS.. it was just an impulse, I noticed the liner notes had an recommendation by Quentin Tarantino. I knew perfectly nothing about Iranian movies and the rest of the liner notes were obscured by the library sticker. It was a shocking experience. I remember I rewinded the movie and saw it again twice! 3 times in one night. It is still my all time favorite movie - all though I love all his movies..
this is a beautiful video, great editing. Also what is the piano music in the background? edit: i found the song it is "we move lightly" by dustin o halloran if anyone else was wondering
Thanks. And a Pro Tip if you ever want to know the music in the youtube videos. UA-cam itself monetized that video for that music and You can find that on "Show more" .
You're right, there is a lot of junk productions that draw the most commercial attention towards themselves every year (like any other country), hence it's logical to deduce Kiarostami's works may not be as known as they deserve to be, which is correct. Also not only his movies are minimalistic, his approach to making his movies is "minimalistic" too, meaning he does not work for the potential monetary benefit and rather pursues what moves him internally.
Horror movies don't scare me , it's these kind of movies, movies like close-up is what I'm scared of watching, its so difficult to watch them because I can feel again, it gives my heart feeling, feeling that I don't want to feel and it hurts my chest all the time
"For me, art is the experience of what you've felt inside" - Abbas Kiarostami ❤
It takes a lot of skill, maturity, talent and intelligence to capture simple life in such an elegant way

Iran has terrific storytellers. Abbas Kiarostami is one heck of a talent. Close-up is a very unsung masterpiece of his.

martinskanal what a wonderfully lovely and intelligent observation!
What film is that? at 1:42
@@BrutalTurtle If you refer to the soldier scene, it is Taste of Cherry, the one that won Abass lots of awards
@@BrutalTurtle the film is The Wind Will Carry Us
How can someone elicit such performances out of their actors? Powerful yet subtle.

(Clips from several of Kiarostami´s movies put together, for those who wonder. Every one of his movies are worth watching more than once)

It's lovely to see Iran when it is not being bombed - to get a glimpse of it real life. It touches my heart.
You confused Iraq with Iran
Marcielle Brandler get your facts straight lmao
This is what’s wrong with people like you ignorant fools.. because it’s in the Middle East you assume that it’s getting bombed..
Who said to you iran is getting bombed? :))
One of my best and favorite director in my life
This was too ugly a world to be blessed with his presence for any longer... Terribly missed
If this Abbas Kiarostami was a minimalist filmmaker, it's no wonder I've never heard of him.
I wonder how many Iranians are familiar with Abbas’ films
A lot of us 😊
