Only found these great vids now, bc I bought me a Specialized Chisel (full bike) just a few weeks ago. You give a lot of context/explanation, which is very nice! I know everything nowadays is 1-by single front chain, but I wonder if this frame can accommodate a dual chain ring AND make it work; haven't found an answer yet in several MTB-forums...

Good thinking on the Red cassette to lighten the setup! I'm looking forward to seeing the wheel and tire combo, that defines the bike quite a bit.

Great build mate.Ive got a custom build chisel too which weighs in at 9.5kg complete. We have our brakes the other way around in Australia and i filed the hole out to get the hydrolic line through the right side and works fine.My Chisel developed a annoying creak after about 6 months which turned out to be the rear derailler hanger. As its secured to the frame with a small screw it has a bit of play and it was rubbing on the frame so after putting some grease on it all quiet now.You might want to pull yours off and give it a bit of a grease before your riding it.The chisel is a killer bike and i love the way the alloy frame rides.

Following this very closely. Looks like this will be a very cool build!

So pimp. With a trick wheelset and a very well chosen set of tires, like a 700x50 gravel slick, this will go hard. Although it may gear out on the flats...

Sorry for late reply Dustin. I'm 180cm 5' 11" TBH I'd normally go for a L but Specialized sent the XL so I just compensated with a super short stem. Makes the handling 'exciting' at times 🤣

I would also like to ask if you care about fork offset - do you use for chisel 42 or 44mm offset. ?
    thanks

It’s a 44mm offset fork and I just use a standard Boost chainlind

Do you think this would be suitable for long distance/multi day rides? I was looking at a sonder broken road but think they are out of stock in my size… ☹️

Yeah it’s a great distance bike. Light, forgiving, efficient. Just choose tyres/wheels to suit the terrain.

do the 12 speed road cassettes with the xdr freehub work on a hub with a xd driver? otherwise it'd hard to find an xdr hub with mtb dropout spacing. just a thought, love the build

@@jackcarey2159 You have to be old enough to remember running road mechs and 11-21 blocks on Suntour Microdrive in the very early 90s. Looked sick but was a nightmare if you rode through grass as you just ended up with a green cone rather than a cog block 🤣 Also go careful with copying me on this idea as Red obviously doesn't have the crash disconnect of MTB AXS mechs so one knock could strip the gears inside and kill it 😬

NO way you can put a sram road cassette with XDR standard on a freewheel body with XD standard, the body is 1,85mm too short my dear, there are NO wheels on the market with boost spacing 12/148 which are compatible with an XDR body or a road 11s body so far
