Hey! I just wanna say this video helped me a lot! Because I have been swimming for a long time but I was always confused how sets worked but now I understand!!!🏊♂️💪👇
After 20 years of swimming I'm very familiar with all this. I just watched the video to learn the swim lingo in english. There was alot of confusion in my swimteam when we had to direct translate everything from swedish to english for the exchange students
Is it good to swim everyday? I think it is but I am not an expert. I had spine fusion and want to do the right thing. I have not swim for the last 2 years
I am short sighted and I can’t see the timer on the wall by my swimming pool. Instead I limit the numbers of my rest-breaths. Regardless of how deep or how fast I breathe. If the number hits I’m going for the next one. Is this a similar concept to your interval?
Yes - interval training can be done by time (clock) or breath count (your breathing). Most common is by a pace clock, but if you don't have one or can't see it, then using the number of breaths you take between reps works the same way. For example you can do 10 x 100s freestyle on 10 breaths rest.
Great question! The goal of interval training is to moderate the total time (swim + rest time) rather than only rest time. So if you follow the interval, the set's rest is determined by how fast you swim. If the interval is 2:00 and you swim the set in 1:30, then you'll have 30 seconds rest before the next repetition. A good goal is at least 5-10 seconds rest for a 100m distance for short-rest aerobic sets. The longer the set, the more rest is appropriate.
Interval = swim time + rest time. If the set is 4 x 100s @ 2:00 and you swim the first 100 in 1:40, then you have :20 seconds rest remaining until the second repetition. Read more here: myswimpro.com/blog/2018/03/21/workout-and-set-structure-whiteboard-wednesday/
What suggestions do you have for swimming while menstruating? How can I swim in such a way, in which I won’t have additional cramps? Also, which brand of tampons are best for swimming?
Queen_Of_Domination I definitely recommend finding a tampon brand that is the right amount of coverage for you and has a braided string to prevent leaks. You’ll have to try different types for yourself to find what works best, but most of the leading brands you listed will be great. Thanks for your questions! - Paige
To be clear, does a "Rep" equal a lap or a length? I am guessing a lap. Also, regarding the interval and the times included in it, wouldn't you want to exclude rest time? Only by excluding the rest time would you be able to see if you have improved your stroke for the particular style.
Hi Antonio, thanks for the comment. A "Rep" is short for a "Repetition". This could be more than one length. For example if the set calls for 10 x 100m Freestyle. That would be 10 reps of 100m. For the interval structure, the interval (time) is swim time plus rest time. The swim time is called a 'split'. For example on that set of 10 x 100m Freestyle, on the first rep, the swimmer swam it in 1:13. This is their split, and the interval could be on 1:30 giving them :17 rest. Interval training is helpful to maintain swimming density, which is the distance swum over a set period of time.
I still can't understand how the trainings are planed, sometimes I finish my laps and have a lot of rest time, I don't know if it is ok to change it or it is planed like that for a reason.
It depends on what your trying to accomplish. If your 4 100s are supposed to be as fast as you can go then you want more rest time to recover before starting each 100. However you may still want to have little rest when doing your 100s as hard as you can go if you want to train your stamina rather than your sprint ability and fast twitch muscles. hope that helps!
Or you can use MySwimPro! Workouts that upload directly to your smart watch! If you don't have a watch you print the workouts as a PDF or waterproof your phone!
This is insane. Makes sense, but is heartbreaking. Im a decent swimmer, but there is no way that I can make those times, esp in meters. My 100m aerobic is 2min. I’d get no rest and be dead.
Hi Jeremy! These are just example times. You're more than welcome to change these intervals for yourself. With the MySwimPro app, each Set is customized to you, so you don't have to worry about swimming a Workout that isn't at your level!

thank you :) this is one of my favorite white board lessons yet :)
Thank you. Wonderful video. You've clarified a lot of the things that I suspected about interval training but wasn't entirely 100% sure of

Thank you so much!!! I've always had a hard time figuring it out

I bought a cheap Casio just for swimming , I suffer the same problem and that was my solution, just carry the clock on your wrist ☺️
The title was really funny with Nemo clip.
Great white beard.

Swimming is a great form of exercise, and in itself is known to help! Hydration is key!
Is anyone else aware of tampons that are optimal for swimming? Generic brands feel morbid in water. Would O.B. or Tampax be more appropriate?
MySwimPro Thanks for addressing part of my question. I guess someone else will have to answer the other part.

Tony Tony Tony... Get with it man
Can you please provide plan for 1500m.

I’ll need to bring my plan jotted down somewhere, and I would need to keep it close to the water. This is gonna be tough.
