    Klinsmann still has the german mentality. A lot of people in the US or UK think germans are rude because they are direct and rather honest, but polite. But in germany honesty is a kind of politeness. It means you are not about to fool anyone, but you are a trustful guy and to tell someone his flaws should help them to become better. If he says the US team is not good enough to play a major role in a world cup it means that they have to put more effort in talent and coach schooling, and it should give the US fan a realistic perspective that the US needs years to close up to the other major soccer nations. The only way to close up is to be realistic, look for and point out mistakes and work on them until you've reached your final goal. Euphoria and exaggerated expectations will only result in disappointment. What also belongs to the german mentality is pessimism. You always think of anything that can go wrong. That has three functions: a) set the expectations low to avoid disappointment and b) keeping your feet on the ground and avoid arrogance or sloppiness c) know what can go wrong and bring yourself mentally into the right line to avoid it. So germans managing the US team can easily lead to irritations. But then again Klinsmann is respected in germany as the guy who pushed all the right buttons 10 years ago which ultimately resulted in the recent world cup victory. And btw.: the german team of 1999 was probably the worst ever. The US defeated that team twice in that year, so the US team was like on a similar level back then. It took the german team 15 years to become the best in the world again. So if you american soccer fans want your team to be a realistic title contender, don't expect them to be there in four or eight years. It should take at least 15 years, too, because the only players that would be good enough to accomplish that are now like 6 years old. If they get a better technical and tactical schooling than the recent players, and combine that with the american fighting spirit, they might become a world class team.

      I agree with all your points. Here in, America the greatest challenge is convincing the youth to play soccer. I come from an urban area where everyone plays American football and basketball rarely any play baseball and none play football. I make this point because, in America overwhelmily the top athletes are African-American. Trying to convince them to play football instead of American football or basketball sports that have a chance of going pro in isn't going to happend any time soon.

  • @leonard851
    @leonard851 10 років тому +76

    why is it so strange for americans that klingsmann said the u.s. isn't good enough to winn?? that's just realistic, like louis van gaal (my country coach) said almost the same.... competing and maybe getting to another round or the semi-finals with an underavarage team is a great victory aswell! americans wake up, you don't always need to win or be the best to be satisfied!

    • @Peasmans
      @Peasmans 10 років тому +21

      ***** srry changed usernam. i know it's your culture. on one hand its good on the other hand many americans believe it and that's why other people think the U.S. is quite arrogant.

    Basketball is the greatest sport to emerge from North America; it will stand the test of time. Basketball has the greatest prospect of becoming a global sport: not hockey, not baseball, not gridiron. Basketball is a beautiful game, the second most [Football is no.1].

      +ecbenny J You're getting better for sure, that is clear. But you're nowhere near competing with Brazil, Germany, Argentina etc. for the gold medal. That's just a fact. You don't evolve from a pretty decent team into a WC winner in 4 years in soccer, it takes more time than that.
