Wim Hof Explains Altitude Breathing

- Since "What Doesn't Kill Us" came out a lot of people have asked me about the specific breathing technique that we used while we were climbing up to the top of Kilimanjaro. Luckily, before I went up the mountain I had a chance to ask Wim Hof about the exact technique. Here is his explanation.
I honestly can't stop thanking you two enough. Carney I think your book is easily the best non fic I've read all year, and Hof's many breathing/cold techniques have honestly been the best thing I've done in years to help regain all the body mobility, that I lost after spending a 6 year stint as a NY Corrections Officer. It's been better than just about anything else I've tried these past 4 years since I got out. Thanks! I'm going out for a jog today, that is something I have not been able to do in a long time.
What an honor to hear this. I'm psyched that it has had a positive impact on your life. Stay strong. Get cold.
Hi Justine well done..i'm just starting out...i've got ptsd..im hopping it can help
Well I'm defiantly sorry to hear that, being a CO was a very high stress gig yes, but I never had to storm the "beaches of Normandy" if you know what I mean. I think and hope this technique will help you, I honestly compare it to alcohol in the sense that after a couple of "swigs" you'll get instant results. It will start to wash all over you and take effect....except unlike alcohol this doesn't seem to numb you in fact it seems to sharpen you....and it seems to get rid of the static on your screen like on those old bunny ear TVs growing up after a couple of whacks. I hope all is well.
Thanks for the reply Justin..Very kind of you to be so generous with your wishes....yes I'm keeping at it....I think with PTSD is seems a bit more resistant to any kind of intervention..seems like youre injured to the core in your head and nervous system. But i do notice the difference. Got up to 3 mins on the breath holds so far! Like i say, i'll keep at it ..cheers again
This needs WAY more attention like AHHHHH thank you so much to you and wim for this knowledge!
Good stuff, was wondering about this for my Everest base camp trek. Thanks for sharing
It works , I tried this in altitude, thanks Scott and Wim . If you want to sleep well try earthing too .
Very interesting dialog, am glad to hear of Dr Willoughby. The interviewer mentions Wim Hof's extreme practices, related to the tummo 'inner fire'/kundalini if I recall correctly, and how they know of 12 or so people drowning trying to perform these practices. One would think by now the West would have figured out some sane adaptation of the Eastern practices, since its been like 80 years since the 'Swans Came to the Lake' and the Dharma came to the West, but alas, it seems we are still pretty confused about what the Dharma masters were really up to.
I lost him in the last 5 seconds haha
SAME.
It’s nice to be nice 😊
@1:03 Wim seems able to make his face turn red in a flick of a second?
Watch his neck veins when he does it
I'm not the most educated "I always say lungs are the most important organs inside"
The years have not been kind to triple H
Hi Scott, I wrote to you about my fight with Liver cancer on another video of yours. I did this breathing on this video and I feel Euphoric and feel relax + happy. You mention that is cerebral low blood flow that cause this Euphoric feeling? Do you think is dangerous? I do this breathing once a day.
I don't believe there is any research on this specific breathing pattern. So I can't tell you whether it's dangerous, but my gut tells me you are probably fine.
Ele ainda sabe de algo que está nas entrelinhas.
wait. WHAT?
I don’t know I am getting the point. To prevent the headache you need to inhale and hold it for a few seconds? Having a lack of oxygen doesn’t worsen it?
I should probably do a video just on this. It only works at high altitude where there is lower available oxygen because the air is thinner. Then you do normal WHM superventilation, take a full lung breath and squeeze to the point of the headache. But if you do it at sea level you will pass out.
Yea this video doesn’t make too much sense.
@@sgcarneySo the normal WHM inhale and exhale.... except not holding the breath and during the last inhale hold the air to the head right?
👌😜🇧🇪😘
