  • I enjoyed this first drive with FSD Beta v11. Not a zero intervention drive but given the complexity of the changes very impressive drive for me. Enjoy and let me know what you think in the comments.
Please note, I am just commenting as I drive, none of my comments are meant to be overly negative just comments as I'm experiencing the drive. I do intervene in some areas. I'm sure the car would eventually correct but its at a point I feel I as the driver need to intervene. :)
Overall I am very pleased with this release and look forward to the next revision and look forward to this going out to wider release when Tesla feels it is ready.

Keep up the good work. Everyone should keep in mind v.11 raises the ceiling on what FSD can do but this is just the first version of it.

Friction brakes being used way too often still which you can see when the Regen bar turns grey. You should never need friction brakes unless something very weird happened outside of the Teslas control.
    3:52 Random friction brakes
4:01 Heavy friction brake usage when slowing down too late getting in left turn lane
5:56 Heavy friction brakes used when waiting too long to slow down for yellow then red light ahead.
7:52 heavy friction brakes waiting a few seconds too late to start slowing down for yellow light.
11:28 friction brakes used when slowing too late and missing getting into the right turn lane which caused you to disengage.
13:00 tailgating while driving downhill with an expected upcoming left turn caused heavy friction brakes to be used for a long time.
18:55 disengagement after very dangerous late heavy use of friction brakes making late attempt to get in left turn lane and not seeing the car ahead was rapidly slowing and Tesla was going to then be forced to sit in train tracks.
25:18 Tailgating and late deceleration caused friction brakes to be used.
42:23 Hard friction brakes slammed due to waiting way to long to slow down for upcoming red light.
43:55 random heavy friction braking for left turn which caused you to miss the yellow light. Heavy braking happened before yellow light. You had to then disengage as it was going to roll through the yellow left turn.
45:29 Late slow down for right turn appears to have used friction brakes and you disengaged as the car would not get in the right turn lane.
3:27 friction brakes are being used. You wrongly said it was only Regen a bit after this occured.
I hope the car starts decelerating earlier so it doesn't have to use the friction brakes which it tends to often do when going over ~40mph and coming up to a stop.
    Thanks for the long video.

Great video , easy to forget what a massive code change this has been , including a NN to control planing and car control, pretty much a miracle!
You can tell you like your speed, not letting the car go back to the right even though you were not turning left for over a mile but it did mean you got to go about 5 mph faster😂😂😂

Hey James, ever consider doing the first cross country zero intervention drive? It’s possible now for the first time. Would be a huge accomplishment!

Regarding the last left turn. In most of the world you stay right except to pass. This is not just the law it's safer and allows for better flow of traffic. I can understand cancelling a right lane change if it's within 500 meters or so (depends on road speed), but not at over 1.6km (1mile).

There's certainly a bunch of areas in need of improvement, but they have improved the speed on approach to stop signs it seems!
The car came up to them so much quicker, not stopping really far back then slowly creeping up to them.

Hi James. Earlier on you made a statement regarding the display or inconsistencies in the display and you referenced that you have a 2018 model. I too have a 2018 model 3 so could you elaborate on what you were referring to there? From about 2 releases back I lost the little super 8 icon to report and it seems like you actually still were able to reach up over the top right and I wonder if they put it put that icon back in version 11. Your overall impression, is it a marked improvement or just incremental improvement or perhaps broken in some places? It's good to see you back on! My release refresh generally trails yours by a few days if not week,so I'm thrilled 11 is out in the wild now!

You probably already know this but in case not, I think the car will treat the left lane as a passing lane and try to stay in the right lane unless you select Assertive.

You get Autopilot free just like cruise control.
If people are too stupid to understand a beta product like this will take years before it if L5 them they should not be buying it.
