i never heard of Alabama-halle and was just curious where it was thinking it was the name of a city or area of town or something, apparently that was just the name of the venue in Munich. for me Xmal will always just be the sound of youth. i always felt so alive listening to the Tocsin album while getting ready at home on club nights, then its like one day i woke up and 36 years had passed. people always have this cliche view of Goth as this scene of depressed whiny fragile kids. i have never felt as alive and vibrant and full of hope and vigor as i did back in those days. there was a feeling of infinity or something that that music gave me, and standing there young and slim wearing my make up and clothes with y hair all done i felt amazing and beautiful and confident. i was living something that was for me, and relatively few others were traveling along with me. i often watch the old video clips of various strange bands i loved but was a million miles away from seeing, and i marvel at how out of place they look amongst the audience of very plain normal looking people that were just there to see some band. i see the same thing when i watch old L.A. and San Francisco punk bands from the 70s and there is a VERY small handful of people in the front that look like they are part of whatever the scene was, and the rest of the room is just filled with really normal looking 70s people just there to see what all the fuss is about
This band was definitely ahead of its time : listen to Manuela Rickers's noisy guitar sound, all by herself she announced the noisy scene that came like 5 years later.
Tocsin was released a year before The Jesus and Mary Chain's Psychocandy, one of the earliest shoegaze albums, was released. I think what bands could do with guitar pedals had to go this way in the mid-80s. 90s grunge wouldn't happen if it weren't for Pixies though.
yes, Manuela's guitar has something special by this time compared to the other 80s goth bands, and yes, somehow, she anticipated the noisy scene, I came to the same conclusion.. and we cannot forget that the Mary chains were perfectly fiting in the goth scene with their magistral Psychocandy. Likely Manuela started to understand what the Mary chains will take extremely much further as no one could imagine before..
Give not thy strength unto women? Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more? Weird!

X-Mal Deutschland ... completely underestimated and unfortunately under the radar of the media.

In eine andre Zeit
An einen andren Ort
Über unserem Totenhaus

shes makes along with bass effects.
+Noir Desir As a guitar player, Manuela Rickers was innovative, as the band itself, they together were real pioneers.

No Autotune invented these times :-)
Чем не Joy Division? Даже жестикуляция, как у Яна Кёртиса. Брависсимо. Superb. Magnificent.
