    The DJI Mini 3 is an amazing drone but which filter is best to buy for great results? You don't actually NEED a filter on the DJI Mini 3 for great results but watch this video to see how they can help get the best footage from this cool little drone.
    Where to buy the Freewell DJI Mini 3 filters:

    Quick Caveat:
    I was sent these filters to review from Freewell Gear. I have bought, used and reviewed their filters in the past so I already knew they would do the job.
    You are more limited with drones than ground cameras when choosing which filters to use on the Mini 3. It all depends on the flying conditions, the look you are after and what you need for each job or shoot.
    Filters in this review:
    • Skylight Filter
    • ND Filters (from ND4 to ND64 + ND1000)
    • ND + Polariser Filters (ND4 to ND64)
    Skip To:
    00:00 - Introduction when to use ND filters
    01:30 - Run through of filters in this review
    03:04 - Why slow the shutter speed down?
    04:24 - When NOT to use an ND filter
    05:14 - Showing all 4 filter effects (none, ND16, ND16 + polariser, just polariser) straight out of camera
    07:52 - Issue to be aware of when using polariser filters
    09:24 - Corrected issue results

    11:37 - How to set the polariser filter to prevent vignetting vertical mode
    12:09 - What I recommend and close
    My Favourite filter for the DJI Mini 3:
    When used correctly and in the right conditions, I feel that the ND filters with built in polariser (polarizer US) gives superb results. The ND part reduces the shutter speed for a more realistic filmic look and the polariser filter cuts through the shine and reflections on water, windows and even the air to give rich, colourful results.

    You are the firsy person who postedthe video of same spot with different filters that I've been looking for all day and no other YTers was showing the same with details like you did. My go is, w/o filter is good and with just polariser is my choice! Now I know what I need for my beach vacation! Thanks

    On a drone, we obviously can't fix vignetting by using oversize filters, but still worth it...

    THIS is the video I've been looking for to find an example of how the sky looks with a polarizing filter at 'non-optimum' angles. I've been on the fence about getting the combined ND+CPL filters because I keep hearing about how they can cause negative effects if not lined up perfectly with the Sun, but if that's the worst that happens I can easily put up with for all the other benefits. Thanks! Now off to buy some filters…

    Great stuff. How do you know how much to adjust the polarisation before you take off. The H and V modes being the extremes.

    • @NickStubbs
      @NickStubbs  Рік тому +2

      I normally fire up the drone and app, direct the camera in the general direction I plan on flying and adjust the filter whilst still on the ground.
      No other way really. Try to aim at the sky as this is the area that normally has the vignetting. Check any water surfaces too and then take off and fly that direction.

    Very helpful , thanks . I’m trying hyper-lapse out and it’s way to sharp , I think it’s the nd 1000 or 2000 right .
    I’ve been taking pics and filming , today I’ve really noticed the corn field true colours are not been reproduced in my pics and blue swimming pool has more of a green tint to it .
    Please can you tell me, Will filters help me get better true colours ? Or is that something I need to edit . I’m new to editing and hoping the filters may help . I’m surprised as my I phone 7 gets better true colours !
    And for a beginner pilot and not loads of experience of photography settings but just seem to find nice locations and frame my pics well , I’m my view anyway ..
    Thanks in advance .

    • @NickStubbs
      @NickStubbs  Рік тому

      Hi Oscar. A lot of this depends on your camera settings. If you are getting incorrect colours with no filter on, it could be your white balance? Try setting it to manual and around 5200k - 5600k in the daytime to see what happens.
      To be honest, I use auto white balance and get pretty good results. If you get changes in colour when using an ND filter, the auto white balance may try to account for that filter and shift the colours slightly. Again, go manual WB if this is the case and test a few kelvin values.
      With regards to the footage being "too sharp", sadly there is no way around this in-camera. You cannot adjust the sharpness so it needs to be done in post production.
      One way of testing so this without burning too many batteries is to place the drone on a wall and take a lot of clips with different settings but make sure to note which settings relate to which clip.
      To stop the Mini 3 overheating, have the rotors running but don't take off. The Mini 3 doesn't like being turned on without flying, it gets hot so at least by having the rotors turning, it will stay a bit cooler.

    I am disappointed that PolarPro range is poor and the value doesn’t feel fit. They only provide a three piece set.

    Is ND/PL 64 dark enough in the UK or would it be an advantage to get a set with ND/PL128 or darker?

    • @NickStubbs
      @NickStubbs  Рік тому +1

      I'm pretty sure an ND 64 will be fine. Even on a bright day. Stick to ISO 100 and let the shutter make any minor fluctuations if in auto or adjust the shutter manually if shooting in manual.

  • @gryphon12321
    @gryphon12321 Рік тому

    Why would anyone choose the all day pack instead of the bright day pack when the filters of the bright day pack offer the same ND4/8/16/32/64 filtering but with PL? You only don't get the ND1000 filter. For the rest its the same ND levels as stated on each PL filter. Am i missing something?

    • @NickStubbs
      @NickStubbs  Рік тому

      I think some people prefer ND's without the polarisers. My ground cameras only use ND's without polarisers for example. Horses for courses I guess 👍

    Are the filters for the 3 and the 3 pro different? So hard to find a comprehensive result because every hit when you type 'mini 3' brings pro results - and all the YT videos don't have the word pro in their title 😕

    Thank you for this. Is it a problem if you are looking to take video and stills while your airborne with ND filters; don't you have to land the drone and take the filter off because of the slow shutter speed for photos?

    • @NickStubbs
      @NickStubbs  Рік тому

      You're welcome and thanks for commenting. Generally it should be ok as 50th or 60th/sec is fine for stills of non moving subjects. The drone's gimbal is so good I've even managed 8 second exposures in another of my videos with the Mavic 3 👍

    I see the 'added warmth' as a colour cast. With a good quality ND filter, that shouldn't happen. The word 'Neutral' in 'Neutral Density' is there for a reason ;-)

    • @NickStubbs
      @NickStubbs  2 роки тому

      Indeed. I actually get a "cool" cast from the more expensive Breakthrough ND filter on my stills camera. I think it's fairly common in cheaper, stronger ND filters and possibly due to setting the white balance to auto. I might test again using fixed WB.
