    Thank you for doing this. I just picked up a used mini 3 Pro for those times i want to travel light or don't want to risk dumping my M3P in the drink. I'm trying to get better with video, so it's time to start following best practices for shutter speed. I mostly fly over or near water, so the CPL will come in handy as well.

    I am glad I got the Neewer ND filters. To me they seemed pretty equal to your final choice. You didn't care about the 64 ND filter, but some do and some don't. I got the 6 set that included the 128 ND filter. I wondered how that would have done on your stop test? I got lucky after all. I was afraid after I watched your video I was going to be aww hell, I should've could've bought me that other filter!
    The set I purchased was for my new DJI Mavic 3 Classic. I am totally loving this drone! Thank you for the video, Greg!

    I got the all day pack. I also got the neewer 6 pack ND/PL pack. My mini 3 pro arrives tomorrow so we’ll see. I’m just a hobbyist and have used Freewell, skyreat, polar pro, DJI, and now neewer NDs. I haven’t noticed any of them being “bad”, but I’m also just a hobbyist and not a professional. Glad to see neewers held their own! Thank you so much for being thorough, honest, and most importantly unbiased. So hard to find that when it comes to these brands

    Absolutely brilliant video, and if you are looking at buying ND filters this is exactly what you need. With the market saturated with different branded filters, a comparison between said brands is absolutely vital.
    What I have noticed, and it really boils my blood is Freewell sending out review kits for free, for other UA-camrs to review. They fly around, doing comparisons with and without filters, and they say the footage looks amazing, when you can clearly notice they dull the colour spectrum and grey out the image. And then you compare them with other filters. And it is of no surprise as clearly witnessed here, they are really bad.
    Please can I ask you compare some more filters like the K&F Concept, and the Polar Pro's. They seem to have the most backing in the community at large. I would love to see how they compare with the ones depicted in this video.
    Once again, thank you for the unbiased and scientific way you went about comparing these filters. This subject is such a minefield.

    • @michaelv1984
      @michaelv1984 Рік тому +1

      It’s no surprise, they buy all those UA-camrs with either free products or sponsorship. Every single UA-camr. So much so that I couldn’t find any one reviewing neewers. I’ve bought freewell for many previous drones (air 1, air 2s, mini 2) I’ve used polar pro on mav pro, and skyreat on mini 2. I tend to buy two sets per, ND and ND/PL. so I couldn’t find anything on the neewer, but people do use them. So I bought the neewer 6 pack ND/PL and the Freewell all day. My mini 3 pro comes tomorrow so I’ll see how they do. Even though you can’t trust UA-cam reviews when it comes to freewell, I find they make a pretty good filter. But I’m just a hobbyist so take that with a grain of salt! It was very refreshing to see this review wasn’t biased even tho Freewell provided the filters. They were probably not very happy after they saw the review wasn’t a shill sell out like they wanted. I have nothing against them, and like I said used them on nearly all my uavs over the years, but it’s annoying when you’re trying to find unbiased reviews of other companies and can’t bc all the UA-camrs are all touting freewell for their own personal gain

    So, the Freewell Bright Day is a combination ND/PL filter. Didn't seem like you mentioned that. And it requires the PL position be dialed in prior to launch. How did you set this up since it will affect the results seen.

  • @halflink
    @halflink Рік тому +1

    Great review (trying to figure which ND filters to buy for my new mini 3 pro)! However, I think, you mixed up two sets one point. At the colour comparison you said that ND16 from the Freewell Bright day had an 'additional issue', but then, in the stops accuracy comparison, you referred to that 'other issue', but it was for the ND 16 in the All Day set 🤔

    The bright day are polarizing filters, does that make a difference?
    Thanks for the test, this was very well done. I have the FreeWell Bright day pack, but mine goes from 16 to 1000, with circular polarization. I want to return them now that I see this, but I was just wondering if the test is affected by the circular polarization?

    • @christopherlyons7613
      @christopherlyons7613 10 місяців тому +2

      Yes I just posted a similar comment regarding the Bright Day being a combined ND/PL. Really surprised he didn't mention this since it is important. The Polarizer will definitely affect the image. I'm looking at options for my Mini 4 Pro and do like the combined ND/PL. I'm generally flying in brighter conditions and have always liked the look given with polarizers. Did you end up keeping the Freewell or did you get another brand? What are your thoughts?

    • @spladam3845
      @spladam3845 10 місяців тому

      I kept them, just so I'd have a good polarizing set and those super high Stop ND's, and ordered the NEEWER ND & CPL 8 pack set, which comes with a normal non ND circular polarizer and a UV filter, in addition to 6 normal ND's.
      Ok, so just to be clear, that bright day set is NOT circular but linear polarized, meaning as you change the angle relative to the sun the polarization effect changes, you have to set the angle on the lens before you launch(weather or not you'll be perpendicular or parallel to the sun), making it poor for dynamic angle videos but good for set up pictures.
      The main reason I got that bright day pack was the fact that it contained the high stop filters, so I could attempt daylight long exposures. Have not tried the long exposures yet because it's tricky, but hoping that will work. I now have too many ND filters, but I really love this drone.
      I did test the bright day pack with normal videos and pictures, and even during sunset, where I have a waypoint mission I do most days for a project, I compared the waypoint shots framed the same, one with the Bright day NDPL and it worked as advertised, killed some bloom/glare and gave clarity to some white surfaces that were washed out with overexposure in previous waypoint shots. I think it's a good set.
      In the video he seems to get the two sets confused, because they only found one problem with the bright day pack, the Stops were perfectly on point, it was the other set that had the big issues.
      *I would recommend the Neewer 8 pack with CPL and UV, it's just more practical, you don't have to mess with the linear polarization setting, you'll likely NEVER use the super high stop ND's (you can barely see through them during bright conditions) and it has a UV filter, which you WILL get use out of as you can just leave it on instead of DJI's default blank.*

      @spladam3845 Thanks, apppreciate the feedback. Good to know they are linear Polarizers vs circular. That makes a difference. May go with the Neewer set too. Wish you could stack the CP onto the NDs. For the price the Neewer should work fine. Thanks again.

    • @spladam3845
      @spladam3845 10 місяців тому

      np, glad I could help another M4Pro pilot.
      By the way, the CPL, the circular polarizer, it has a spinning filter top like the linear, with a white mark, but instead of changing the polarization angle, it just decreases and increases the polarization (sunglasses effect).
      And yeah, if we could stack them, it would be so easy to get the perfect combinations.@@christopherlyons7613

    • @spladam3845
      @spladam3845 10 місяців тому

      Glad I could help another pilot. The circular polarizer in that set (CPL) has a spinning filter top with a white mark like the linear polarizers, but instead of changing the polarization angle, it changes the general amount of polarization, great for water shots. I just leave the UV filter on when not using an ND, because UV is just generally bad for the sensor anyway, and there is no shot where it would be a negative. The 8 worked great for sunset and the 16 helped for bright early Louisiana morning, have fun. @@christopherlyons7613

    The one thing you forget to mention is that the Freewell Bright day also has a polarizer built in to reduce glare with the built in ND8-ND64. So if you film near the water I would recommend the bright day set from freewell so you can reduce glare. It would be cool if you do a follow up with polarizers. Again I think the Freewell will be the best for polarizer but would love to see a test done.

    Thanks, glad I didn't buy the Freewell, however I probably don't use mine as often as I should. Fast forward comment, and it is a comment, not meant to be a criticism. It is suddenly fashionable to do live Q & A UA-cam events. However, other UA-camrs ask for questions then select the best questions and answer them in 20 or 30 minutes in a video instead of taking the time to scan and make comments and then get to a worthy question. After and hour, half filler, some of us get bored and move on, others hang in for the meat of the subject. I and others always watch the meat only Q & A answers with much more interest than sitting as someone combs thru the noise to find the meat.
