I don't think younger generations who weren't kids in the actual 80s grasp today how big gi joe really was. I just remember gi joe being the main thing kids talked about at lunch tables and in the school yard and kind of brought us all together.
I started collecting the classified Hasbro figures for roughly 1 month now and it's gotten me into the franchise. For some reason my brothers and I didn't watch it as 80's kids.
Yo Joe!!! Wow! Great video!!! I was around for the '82 launch of the 3 and 3/4 inch toy line. That was my introduction to GI JOE. I did not read the comics nor watch the animated show at all, even to this day. Currently, I've heard people talk about them and that's the only reason I know about the differences between the marvel comic line and the shows. But back then, It was all toys for me. I, of course, watched the live action movies but did not like them all that much. Wish hollywood could just try and remain faithful to the original source material. Now, at 52, I want to jump back in to collecting JOE and was going to stick to some vintage toys and the marvel comics but, after watching this, I might go ahead and take in some of the shows. Thank you for making this video. I'm now a subscribed fan. Can't wait to watch more. Keep up the great job!
Awesome video extremely informative as a new Joe fan myself. I got into it thanks to the energon universe and I can’t wait to see the rest of what the franchise has to offer and what is yet to come in the comics
20:52 so basically like zoids , and thundercats , every new entry struggles to find it's audience or attract older viewers. But zoids on the other hand, new century and chaotic ish both got pulled from the broadcast USA schedule due to a weird time slot or something, and alas no full DVD re release especially since studio xebec animation( MegaMan NT warrior, StarForce and future card buddyfight 100 etc ) is long LONG defunct
For some reason I just could not get into GI Joe. I was a kid in the 2000s so I would have been exposed to the direct-to-video movies, SIgma 6, and the movies, but I never really cared for them in the same way I did for Power Rangers and Transformers. I have bought some of the recent GI Joe/Transformers toys and read the Energon Universe mini-series. While I do like them, nothing really convincing me to become a full-fledged Joe fan. I do appreciate your explanation of the different series. While I'm not much of a fan of GI Joe, I've wanted to get a basic understanding of it given how much it crosses over with Transformers and how necessary it is to engage with the GI Joe parts of the Energon Universe comics. Also, I would greatly appreciate if you could do a video like this for Transformers. I think it would be great for new fans looking to get into the brand and it would also help knowing the availability of certain TF shows on physical media and streaming.
I've been contemplating getting the GI Joe 1986 DVD set since I do enjoy Military war type shows and transformers by Hasbro too. Might hunt down the DVD from Walmart Amazon if available
If someone who's never been really big on GI Joe actually really like the original 87 movie. I watched it and transformers 86 movie back to back. Didn't really care that much for transformers as much as I was hoping but GI Joe I actually really liked. With transformers I felt like you really had to go back and watch season 1 and 2 to fully understand it. It's not just as clear-cut of its own movie. I felt like because this was sort of telling its own news story. With these lived in characters in this lived in world felt very real and I could connect with the newer characters and the older characters. Plus it really was more crazy and batshit then I was expecting for like a group of military people
Between Valor vs Venom and Sigma Six, there was another animated "movie" GIJoe Ninja Battles. It was with an action figure set and was light on story. Not a recomend, but eprth pointing out how reasonably successful thatvera was to have 3 CGI movies.
Could you do one for by chance, the Yu-Gi-Oh tv shows or Pokemon if you have any sets available. Pokemon has more availability on DVD and blu ray with tv movies and specials but Yu-Gi-Oh on the other hand, hasn't been as fortunate 😅😅😅
Skybound is reprinting the Marvel comics starting this fall in the GI Joe Compendiums! That's going to be the easiest way to read them since they'll be in the proper order
@@Soundout12 Aweeesome!! Just wanted to say thanks for this video I started to get into G.I Joe since watching this and have been loving the original 80s series!
The best thing about the Sunbow cartoon was how his subordinates weren't entirely loyal to Cobra Commander
That’s what I love about it over Transformers. Instead of one non-loyal in Starscream, no one is that loyal to Commander!

It really was a cultural staple for the 80s era
I wish I was born in the 80s and not 2011 I am fascinated by vintage toys I don’t know why but I think they’re awesome

26:25 I remember the hub network! Loved transformers prime and renegades was decent imo
17:52 I think I remember gi joe sigma 6 commercials and the tv show on foxbox Saturday mornings back in 2004 to 2005 briefly!

Image comics' Skybound the publisher of the new Energon Universe, will be publishing a brand new GI JOE #1 this Nov '24. ❤❤

Man, I miss Renegades. It was honestly the last gi joe thing I got into

After all these years I've never watched the movie
You watch:
The 1983 miniseries
The 1984 miniseries
The 1985 miniseries
GI Joe: Resolute
Gi Joe: Retaliation.
Wait a few years.
Repeat.
Between Valor vs Venom and Sigma Six, there was another animated "movie" GIJoe Ninja Battles. It was with an action figure set and was light on story. Not a recomend, but eprth pointing out how reasonably successful thatvera was to have 3 CGI movies.
I was going to include it and I noticed it was a lot of reused material as well
@@Soundout12 Yes. It wasn't much, but we fans were starved for content then.

I definitely am thinking about both
@@Soundout12 awesome 💯
BTW, thoughts on Street Fighter X G.I.Joe commercials ?
Iconically weird
@@Soundout12 Good times :) And Snake Eyes for SFVI.
I liked Overkill he was funny
Retaliation goes!! Also renegades
First 14 episodes
I think renegades came out in 2010 doe
Oh yeah wanted to ask. Any good place to find original marvel comics?
