@@Pilotemilie You are completely right about the " FLC" . I too am a pilot and I find this a huge oversight by Honeycombe. In the 182 Coronado I am helping my father with it actually presents itself as a barrier. So I have not yet found a work around.

Assuming you have the most recent drivers for the throttle, the IAS light and AP mode select dial should work correctly. IAS effectively acts as FLC (at least in the cessna 172). Set the desired altitude with the knob and then press IAS and set the desired speed. It will then change flight levels at the desired speed and level off at the set altitude.

So refreshing to see a well balanced review of a flight sim product by a professional pilot. I’m always looking for ways to improve the immersive experience and environment and clearly the combination of yoke and throttle quadrant is the way to go. Thank you for taking the time to film and share this review x

    Ninja is beautiful.
We had a little kitty called Cleo, who we rescued when she was very small.
Cleo regarded my wife as her mum, and followed her everywhere.
Cleo got sick last year, when she was nearly seventeen years old. She couldn't be cured, so, we had to have her put to sleep, to end her suffering.
My wife and I are now in our twilight years, so will not be able to have another kitty, as it would probably outlive us. Who would look after it then?
Sorry for the sad comment. I do try to fly Flight sim X.
Maybe I'll upgrade my pc one day and try FS2020.
    Thanks for the Channel.

I got mine Wednesday last week and I love it! I love a bit of realism in my simming but without having to build a home cockpit or buying 15 different peripherals. The fact that the Bravo has, apart from the throttle quadrant, also the autopilot controls, flaps, a trim wheel, light switches, etc, makes it WELL WORTH the $250 US! Cannot wait for Honeycomb rudders next!

I just ordered the Honeycomb Alpha Yoke and their Bravo Throttle Quadrant a day or two ago, so I'm happy to hear you like Honeycomb so much!! Their throttle, with the
switchable lever handles so that you can set your throttle up for flying either small GA aircraft up to twin engines and the additional while throttle levers for up to 4 engines in a large commercial jet.
Hopefully they will both fit on my computer desk ok!!
I've had MSFS 2020 since it came out, but have yet to even set it up, only flew it a time or two using my old CH Fighterstick, which was great for WW2 combat sims like IL2 Sturmovik etc. But not so great with XP11 or MSFS2020 and the fact that the old stick is not recognized by MSFS2020 means I'd just have to program every single button function into the sim manually which would be a real PIA! So I've mostly held off on even trying to fly it. For that and other reasons. But now I'm ready and wanting to get it set up so I can do some serious flying and after looking over and comparing all the options for a Yoke and Throttle Quadrant, this looks like the more reasonable solution, or the best period at it's price point!
I can't wait until they arrive! Thanks for posting this review Pilot Emilie!

Honeycomb is definitely a great stuff for flyin.. and must have a least 2 of Alpha and Bravo as rudder pedals in a future, its totally changing the way of playing of flight simulators.. and you even like more flying other planes now with Honeycomb than without it. For sure its a good Note from Emilie that Honeycomb need to atjust som things in a future for better experiencing of Autopiloting modes. Emilie Please make some videos about how Real pilots planing a flight from A to B with taxing, departure and arriving to the airports. Aprreciate that. Keep going and have a good flights!

The "sh*t" at 10:21 got me :) As far as the friction-locking flap lever for the airbus throttle pack, I'm planning on modding it to have detents for flaps 1-4, like using a slotted strip then a very shallow middle channel beneath the spring loaded friction lock. I remapped the flaps switch at the right end to arm/disarm the ground spoilers. Yep, I'm a wannabee 'bus driver and very happy with the bravo.

I already put the Bravo back in the box after a week. It’s an amazing piece of hardware, but two things. One, I don’t have the ability to mount it lower on my desk, so having it level with the desk is awful. If it’s on the right I can’t use a mouse. Two, the buttons just don’t work in older sims. Maybe I’ll grow into when I can take out a business loan for a 4,000 dollar PC (who can afford that???) and buy a newer sim. What I did just install is the Thrustmaster Boeing yoke and throttle kit. The throttle is more basic and not as well made as the Bravo. However, the yoke is pure gold. I was blown away at how amazing it is. It made hand flying so easy I was just shocked.

The Airbus flap lever has a plunger-type detent that locks into the little toothed track next to the slot. I guess they couldn't do that with the Boeing style one because the lever handle just slips on, so trying pull it up would just pull thr handle off. Wish they had put some sort of locking mechanism on the handle so this functionality was there.

I'd add a con. The beta, feather, and fuel cutoff ranges beyond the detents on each lever are pseudo buttons rather than continuations of the lever's actual axis, which makes it impossible to map these functions to the respective lever.

  • @PanavisionT16
    @PanavisionT16 5 місяців тому

For mapping buttons, switches, even the axis of the levers- it's best to use FSUIPC, especially with PMDG AC. MSFS mapping can't achieve what FSUIPC can do in terms of programming for complex flight operations with yokes and throttle quadrants. You can use the free version (but there is a paid version too).

Interestingly your cons won't affect everyone, adding weight to the argument that this is a great piece of hardware. I have a MCP unit so I have 1:1 controls for autopilot functions, and I have 3D printed bits that add a notch track to the flaps axis. So the only things I anticipate to be an annoyance would be relatively small handles and non-proportional reversers.

Now all you need is some pedals. You can also use a buttkicker gamer 2 (sound transducer) to feel vibration in your seat to simulate feeling takeoff/landing/engine vibration.
Try your rig also in VR; it will take some getting used to using these controllers but only being able to peak down to actually see them, but a lot of times in the real plane you’re not necessarily looking at these knobs and levers all the time anyway. You develop a sort of muscle memory and use the tactile differences of the T/P/M knobs instead.

Got a slight problem with my Bravo - engine 2 lever clicks at the 10% and 90% levels, slight stickiness, output seems OK. And the IAS button works to enable FLC in the sim but the light never comes on even when it’s on in the sim. Honeycomb wants me to send it back for repair but I can probably live with the slight imperfections. Anybody else see these issues?

My gripe with IAS mode is before arming AP I have to switch to IAS on the soft key, then on the dial from 0 spin the dial up to the speed I want instead of just hitting IAS and autopilot arming at the speed the plane currently is at. Extra step is a pain but just something I end up doing on the ground.

Regarding VFR/PPL on Flight Simulator, I agree Flight Simulator is limited with one massive exception: if, as well as yoke/quadrant/rudder controllers, you use it with a VR headset, it's on a seriously different level. The level of immersion compared to just using a monitor is like night and day. You do need a pretty well spec'd PC to take advantage of VR though.
As to the Bravo, I've had one on order since 10 August last year :-(
In the meantime I use a Logitek throttle quadrant together with the Alpha yoke and Thrustmaster TFRP rudder pedals. To take advantage of VR, you really do need a full set of controllers, blindly hunting for the keyboard and mouse while you're wearing a headset isn't going to work.

Dude I’m getting this anytime from now to
Wednesday. Gulfcost said that all deliveries should be shipped the 19th and if the travel time by truck is correct, it’s a 33 hour drive to me, so it might get here today, or, Wednesday. Depending on if Kentucky loves me or not.
All I know, is it’s getting here this week and I am more than excited. 3 months of waiting and I’m finally gonna get it!
    Edit: I finally got it!

Ninja! I like the visual cues from simulator flying. That was the hardest part for me when I was learning to land in real life. Now I can just dump the flaps last minute and slide it on... lol Glad Ninja is just a bit tolerant of your adoration. :D

I wish they made a FLC (Flight level change) button for the auto pilot section. As a King Air flyer, that is very important. Too bad.

First off, I just wanna say GO FLAMES GO. I’ve watched a few of your videos and had no idea you were Canadian so that’s awesome.
Second, regarding your complaint regarding the flap selector, I suggest you check out Russ barlows 737 flap modification. It adds a flap detent and lock system to the control which looks really good.
Personally, one thing I would really like to see would be an autothrottle disconnect button on the throttle handle like you see in the actual 737.
Anyways, keep on with your videos, your earned another subscriber from me.

Hi captain :) I'm a newbie to your channel, and I love it! You're a great instructor, like the one where you explained stuff with the model (yaw, 3-axis etc). Can you also explain in a future vid something about trimming and how to do it? You talk about it a lot, but or I missed the vid where you explained it or you haven't yet explained it yet. So off topic lol. But still, I love your channel!

Some buttons like NAV don’t work in the sim and other buttons cancel and altitude gets canceled by ias

I'm actually expecting to get my Alpha Yoke in a few days. I hope to be able to order the Bravo Quadrant sometime this spring.

Great video.Mine has been on order since October. One day....😃. My issue at the moment is I have now discovered MSFS in VR. So currently I am having to feel around my gear like a blind person as I have the headset on !! Going back to using a monitor is going to be hard !!

    • @zatridevyatzemel
      @zatridevyatzemel 3 роки тому +1

Would be really nice if MSFS/Asobo added a feature to enable quick switching between VR video and the built-in cameras used for headset tracking (in HP Reverb G2 at least).
The cameras are already there anyways, so why not make the surroundings visible to the user on request without having to take the headset off?
Then we could just bind one of the white buttons of the Alpha yoke to that function, - problem solved!

@@zatridevyatzemel Great idea. Not sure what the cameras are like on the G2, but on the Q2 they are low res black and white images. Setting frequencieson my logitech radio panel would be a struggle using them. But in the Q2 you have the option to double tap the side of the headset to activate the cameras. But of an immersion breaker, but will give it a go. 👍

You slightly remind me of one of my friends who's also a pilot. And is named Emily. She's never really done flight sim stuff so I've been bugging her to try out my 737-based setup. I've got this throttle arriving today and I'm super hyped to give it a try

I know there's an Airbus add-on for 'bus drivers; how easy would it be to set up a Q400? One of my fav P3D aircraft is the Majestic Q400; maybe you'll have that available in MSFS sooner rather than later. Would love to see you do some Q400 vids when it is. As always, great vid, great presentation.

Great review Emilie! I just ordered the yoke and throttle but am curious about how exactly I will need to set up rudder use as I don’t have pedals yet and obviously won’t have a joystick to twist anymore.

    • @zaviationn
      @zaviationn 2 роки тому

I mean it won’t be the best, but maybe you can use the yoke as the roll and yaw? I’m not sure, or keep your joystick near you and use that.

I have them both, and the quality is fantastic. The only con i see is that the flip buttons ar behind the levelers, but it is no good way to place them somewhere else design vise.
Another ting.....i don't get why so many have a hard time to get them. Where i buy from....komplett.se, they still have more then 100 in stock.
    Great review though! :D
