Love your content, Chris, but this was not a good test at all. There was no control, as you never shot a good broadhead under the same conditions. Also, shooting into concrete a) does not simulate the intended use and b) just highlighted that most of the issue was with the arrows blowing up, not the broadheads. Also, pulling the first broadhead out and showing that it outperformed the better broadhead when you cut the paper was not a good start. Would love to see you redo this by shooting real targets while evaluating flight characteristics and penetration compared to better broadheads. Again, love your content, not a hater.

@@BenDownTooLong exactly. I have a friend who mounts the arrow (if he recovers it, obviously) with any fan, rack, etc. so he already factors in not having that arrow in his quiver anymore before release. Thus he has no problem using low cost parts, .006 straightness shafts, etc.
He shares my belief that getting closer (or bringing the game closer) is about 80% of the challenge of bowhunting, not practicing 50+ yard shots for months before the seasons start. Every culture on earth fed itself for generations with a bent stick and a string shooting somewhat straighter sticks with rock heads that certainly weren't matched to the tenth of a grain, so we don't put as much stock in super-tuning everything as some do. Pretty much down to just "this arrow is always outside the group, so set it aside, re-fletch, maybe try different heads to see if anything makes it hit the same as the others."

About the first ones you showed, we fired one at the tread side of a tire at 40 yards with a 10 point nitro 505. It blew right through the first side and then turned to the left bit with the front of the arrow coming to rest just outside of the tire (like where the psi numbers are). It completely destroyed the broadhead and bent the ferrule. One of the blades was stuck in the tread area of the tire, which is also where the shaft broke inside the tire right before the fletching. The tire actually rolled a way a couple feet when we hit it.

I need help. Anyone. I just bought a QAD drop away rest for my Bowtech CP28 and I had it timed up correctly and even then the launcher is not dropping away fast enough and my fletching are hitting it and causing my arrows to fly weird and also causing me to lose some veins. I need help.

Fun test, but the disk test was very unfair and the cinder block test as well.
As the blown up arrows proved.
The arrows didn't blow up because of the broadheads.
They blew up because they were not strong enough to survive hitting what you shot them at.
I doubt many top brand broadheads would do very well in a test like that either, even if they might do better.
I 100% agree that you should not use any of them on deer, no matter how sharp they are or you can make them.
I have tested a few Chinese piracy broadheads myself and some of them are not to bad when it comes to weight, how they spin and sharpness.
Some of these are rather strong as well.
I also bought a bunch of "Rage Hypodermics" that I am not sure if they are piracy or if they are extra production from the factory and sold illegally, as they look and feel exactly like the ones rage sell, but without their name on it.
They are also as "sharp" (dull) and strong as the original Rage Hypodermics.
That said, am I not using them on deer.
But I am not using an original Rage Hypodermic on deer either.
I am not using mechanics on deer or bigger animals anymore at all.
Not lost any animals because of it, but got to many funky results, even with my 650 grain arrows at 260 fps and I have seen to many hunters wound and lose animals with very good shots, using mechs.
I also bought some Helix single bevel broadhead copies that have been made well and fly well, but they are to soft to use on deer imo.
But what I do use these cheap Chinese broadheads that fly well on, are small game.
Like hare, rabbit, grouse and more.

Why does it matter if it's a brand name broadhead or the same exact broadhead without a brand name on it? The deer does not stop and ask what kind if broadhead it got hit with, if it's in the vitals the deer will go down. Brand name broadheads are made in the same Chinese factory on the same production line as the cheap ones, they are identical except the packaging that they come in and spending 20 times as much for a fancy box and a name brand sticker is not going to make you a better hunter. People used to use sharp rocks on their arrows and those worked fine for thousands of years so why do you think that a brand name broadhead is now required to kill a deer? I use an unbranded bow made in Taiwan, Chinese arrows and Chinese broadheads and my gear takes deer just fine.

      @@12jazion
      Well.
There are two very different types of unbranded broadheads that come out from China.
There are the types that come out from the same production lines as the brand names as you talk about and as I suspect the nameless Rage Hypodermic versions are.
But you have the types that are pure piracies, that are made at different factories and where they use metal and components to make them, where it will be extremely unethical to use them on deer.
And if you think that all cheap Chinese broadheads that look the same as brand name broadheads, are made on the same production line, you are very incorrect.
And if you just use these cheap Chinese broadheads on deer without testing one in the batch you ordered first, you have extremely little respect for the animal you hunt.
I couldn't care less about what brand broadhead people use, but this nonsense about what our ancestors used is just stupid.
They used what they could to survive, included throwing large rocks on animals.
And they for sure wounded lots of animals they never killed.
And even they tried all the time to use the best material they could and make the best arrow heads they could.
They didn't just use a cheaper rock arrow head when they could use one of flint or obsidian.

    • @12jazion
      @12jazion Рік тому

@@The_Judge300 How is using a Chinese counterfeit broadhead on a deer unethical? The deer do not ask if the Chinese are infringing on patents and a counterfeit or unbranded broadhead kills the deer just as dead as a name brand one. Even a field point will kill a deer if it's a heart shot, deer are thin skinned animals and they do not take much to kill. Now if I were hunting cape buffalo I might worry about the strength of the broadhead but for deer, just about anything seems to work fine. An idiot neighbor kid shot a deer with his 750 fps .177 pellet gun and somehow that killed the deer so if a cheap pellet gun can drop a deer then Chinese broadheads can too. Shot placement is everything and a pointy stick thru the heart will kill any deer regardless of the cheapness of the pointy stick.

@@The_Judge300 You talked me into it, I bought some brand name broadheads at the local sport shop. The broadheads I have always hunted with cost 1.55 each and the new ones cost 15 dollars each so I will put them to the test and see if they kill the deer 10 times deader than the cheap ones, 10 times faster than the cheap ones, or if I get 10 deer with each shot. In any case I expect to see dramatic results based on the 10 times higher price tag. Maybe they kill, dress, process and cook the deer all in one shot so it's ready to eat as soon as I walk up to it?

Most of the components in American high end bows are made in either China or Taiwan, so it's not wise to run down..."Foreign" made archery products, as we are all shooting them.. And a tip for ur cricket problem…..next time ur in the woods get u some hedge apples or horse apples…..several different names for them. The green apple lookin things that fall off of Bodark trees and put a couple two or three around ur shop. TRUST ME u will not have the cricket problem any more. They hate hedge apples.
