  • As the chief diversity officer for a large organization, Jada Keye Hebra was used to traversing difficult terrains. Supported by the tools of her work, such as her go-to, restorative practice, Hebra held people in their humanity no matter what. That is, until 2016 came her way and the political crevasse in her own home became one that seemed unpassable. She recounts this experience with humor and pain, and shares how an on-the-job discussion opened her eyes to how she - and we - could find the way across our divides and why it matters if we do. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx Jada Keye Hebra is a learner, percolator, and mama bear. She works as Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer at Southern New Hampshire University where she advances work to improve educational outcomes for marginalized communities, open more pathways to upward social mobility, and drive deeper civic engagement for a healthy democracy. What a beautiful speech! It was very inspiring, the way she puts things into perspective was absolutely riveting. I just watched this video twice and may go for a third! The emotions shown simply demonstrates her level of passion as it pertains to cultural fluency, diversity, inclusion and so much more. Thank you to my Professor for recommending this video!

I am so glad my school recommended this to me. Ive been saying since before Trump V Clinton that a divided nation will never successful. We need to learn to start looking for those who are willing to reach across the isle. If your candidate spends more time talking about the other team and less time talking about how to work together, you're just assisting with more division and less productivity as a nation.

I'm watching this for class. I love this. I have a few people in my life that I want to do this with, be honest. Especially about Trump and the harm/fear he has caused. Rather than just ignore our different thinkings when he comes on the screen. I hope when I send this to them it helps us talk.

This may be possible with some people but the reality is so many share the belief that "others" are beneath them and the reason for their failures that I do not see a way past the division. Hopefully, one day this country will prove me wrong. So far it has not.

I'm a pretty right-leaning individual, and I see a lot of danger in things like ESG and "woke" culture. That being said, I agree with the general message here. We don't have to agree with someone to understand them. I hear a lot of divisive, dangerous, and deceitful talk from both sides of the aisle these days. What we definitely need in this society is discussion, free expression, and a culture of open dialogue without fear of censorship, persecution, or recrimination.

I agree with the overall message, but just curious after seeing what has happened to the country since Joe Biden and the democrats took over, do you still feel the same way??? Still think Trump is a danger?

She also misrepresented the executive order that was passed, and couched all of the conflict in their relationship as originating with her husband, and none or the responsibility as hers. I found that interesting as well.
