The gradual emancipation of Phool. She calls out her husband in public where women are not supposed to utter their hisband's name. At the end, Phool's ghungat drops from her head, and she doesn't care to lift it and and holds her husband's hand in public as they walk on the road. Remember after their marriage when they were walking in their village, they didn't hold their hands as public display of affection is looked down upon in India, at least in rural India.
Best thing happened to this movie is that Kiran Rao was adamant about not casting Amir for inspector role .

Aamir wouldn’t have been bad. He can do the bhojpuri accent very well as evidenced in PK, and he could have given that kind of performance sure, but for Ravi was always more authentic.

Loved your review. Its a wonderful movie and props to Rick for giving it another chance.
However, just a constructive criticism, Rick was telling in the begining of the review that he couldn't enjoy the movie during the first watch because of external circumstances. I feel this might have happened a few times before as well. While reviewing some films, Korbin and the viewers liked it and Rick didn't, I think this could have been because Rick (At times, not always) was just not in the mood. It felt to the audience that Rick did not get the whole point of the movie. So I feel if you revisit some of the movies that you did not enjoy and everyone else (including Korbin) seemed to like, you might enjoy it more now, when you are more in the mood for it. Again not intending any hate, it happens to the best of us. Our moods impact the way we watch and enjoy movies.

What I missed in my first watch. I noticed in the watch along. Phool screams Deepak in the end at the train station, while she hesitated in taking his name in the beginning.
Also her veil falls off

Another slice of life movie that I REALLY enjoyed from last year was “Mast me rehne ka” with Jackie Shroff & Nina Gupta. Please review it. You’ll love it I’m sure.
Strange korbin didn't mention 12th fail in his top movies. I think most people including me would rate that one above this. That one deserves an oscar nomination.
12th fail was in 2023, I think they were rating films from this year
Oscars are not a measure of quality, they’re all about lobbying and insider connections with members of “the academy”. 12th Fail is better than the vast majority of Oscar winners for Best Picture it just doesn’t have the marketing and lobbying that Hollywood movies get in the west. Parasite was an exception bc a dedicated Korean billionaire who is the heir of Samsung dedicated countless days and nights to help secure its win. Would Ambani ever care to do that for a Hindi movie? no.

You somehow ignored mentioning about Chaya Kadam’s performance as the lady in the station who shelters the lost Bride. Besides Ravi Kishan’s performance as the inspector, hers was a very beautiful performance. Some how you missed mentioning her performance.

the concept of making a video just to hear your reviews, for me it's boring now, my suggestion is to make it more relaxed by just watching with the audiences, I think people prefer that, you have to make changes, look at your views lately.
I personally prefer this more in depth long form content. The reason I like their channel as opposed to other Indian film review channels (that make the watch along, light hearted content as you mentioned) is because they’re lovers of cinema and approach film with a more analytical perspective.
Interesting that you mentioned, the malayalam movie, Ullozhukku (undercurrent) along with this Movie. Coincidentally, both the movie's story featured in the Cinestan Script Writing Competition, for which Aamir Khan was a Jury member. Undercurrent's story (story titled; Funeral) won the first prize and Laapataa Ladies (story titled; Two Brides) won the second.

Panchayat web series is the best.
Its strange how you guys didn't expect the arc from the cop. I think Indian audiences saw that coming from a mile away. The first scene itself, you see that he's corrupt but not bad.
Just watched "Laapataa ladies". The movie is Simply Superb. The scene between Deepak & Phool in the farm just took it to the next level.
He is so vulnerable in that scene and yet he goes ahead with it.
The Overall narrative & storyline is so good.
This movie is much much better than the big budget South Indian movies and their remakes which have no sense in them - just big loud music, over the top action & tons of over acting. No nuance at all.
It is high time that audiences start valuing & supporting quality cinema over big budget loud movies with over the top acting.

Kornin hinted at rick not watching it in his reaction as well. As it often happens, Rick often doesn’t like some random movies just coz he is having a bad day (you can watch some previous reviews where it was the same). This time kornin knew it beforehand, that the movie is awesome, but Rick again wasn’t in the mood, so he gave him another chance. There’s no Amir Khan involvement. The movie is just beautiful. And I rather like that Rick gave it another, than his controversial opinions in past.

Would love a review to Welcome to Sajjanpur by director Shyam Benegal. It’s an ensemble cast but Also starring Ravi Kishan
Lot of things shown in this movie was revelation for us as well. North east are completely alien to some aspects like head covering with the veil.
Ravi Kishan is one of the best character actors ever. Not the best politician. But a stupendous actor.
Please please please please watch Mamla Legal Hai. It has Ravi Kishan and its hilarious.

Recently released Malayalam movie starring Parvathy Thiruvothu & Urvashi. It released in Theatres. Not out in OTT yet. The name of the movie is "Ullozhukku", which means undercurrent. This movie's story won 1st Prize in Cinestan Script Writing Competition, for which Aamir Khan was a jury member. Lapataa Ladies's story won second in that competition.
