I love Ross's music. It is so Autralian and so peacefully colourfull. This is SSO from my time in Sydney. Love it. Thanks

Part of this piece was played this morning on UK Radio 3's breakfast show. It highlights how strong a modern classical scene we still have:)

I heard this on ABC Classic this evening. Edwards isn't a composer I seek out, but I'm impressed every time I happen to hear his work.

I was driving last night, listening to ABC Classic FM. The music I heard had me pull over and sit enraptured. Gasping within its beauty, aching in my heart. His, Ross Edwrad's, 1st Symphony. It's pure Genius. It tore at my chest with dripping talons of tragedy.

I wish I could find this complete work on UA-cam. I want non-Australians to hear and marvel.

I should have said, a complete professional performance. There is a brave young performance but it can't compete with this fine mature rendition.

I didn't know Ross Edwards until this mornings Grace notes on the concert program. This piece is just lovely. Looking forward to listening to much more of his work.

Stuart Challender died of aids in the early 90s but kept conducting his beloved Sydney Symphony until he was too ill to hold a baton... Dene Olding from a well known family of Brisbane musicians was orchestra leader of the Sydney Symphony... Ross Edwards, born in 1943 is probably the most conventionally innovative Australian composer since Peter Scullthorpe... This, and his piano concerto are his most well known works, but he has written for many instruments, most recently, the guitar...

The only possible way to do justice to Mahavishnu and John Mclaughlin and the revision of Sanskrit narada traditions in the West, probably since the Beatles - is for all of it to have fallen into the hands of an authentic genius such as Ross Edwards. At the right time, with the right distance between.

He certainly has his own sound. You can hear that all his pieces are from the same 'mega-piece' - from scherzo to adagio. It IS lovely music, but i'm sure i hear bits of this in 19th century music. Those bits in Beethoven (e.g., his Pastoral comes to mind...) that make us feel great but don't last long. Ross here just extends them!!
