Fun fact: Luc Besson wanted Prince to play Ruby, but he turned it down because it was "too flamboyant" for him. Say what you will about the character, but Chris Tucker nailed the hell out of this role!
It's an unbelievable performance. Chris accidently created the world's very first social media influencer/live podcaster way back in 1997 lol It's no wonder some ppl didn't get it back then, but it fits right in today. I mean YOU wouldn't listen to this guy if you got a notification on your phone that he was going live from 5-7?

In addition to Chris Tucker's completely over the top performance, this scene had some of the most fun choreography that I've ever seen in a film. Everybody in the right place, doing the right thing at the right time, and this whole sequence just *slaps*. 😄
Exactly !! What's make this scene IMO the best scene of the movie is the fact that there are so much happening in the background. Which is great, for example when Ruby is talking to Dallas you can see one of his guy's organizing the school girls to line up for when Ruby pass by them. Little things like that makes this scene the most rewatchable scene of the movie for me !! 💯😂

Of I remember correctly Ruby rod was written with R&b and rock legend Prince in mind to play the role but he turned it down so they went with Chris tucker.

You have an unusually talented instinct for what to select, when preparing these videos! Odd fact: It happens that I'm in the process of preparing my next video ("The Most Extreme! - Volume 4"). It also happens that I'd selected "The Fifth Element" to be part of it, and have also chosen some of the reactors, reacting to this movie moment. Almost as if you and I had coordinated it (which we couldn't have, as I began my selections before watching this video compilation). Regardless - Ruby Rhod is the single greatest "Come-out-of-nowhere-to-steal-the-show" characters in any film. I can think of NO other character or performance to top him on that metric. Congratulations on being "first" with this "natural" movie moment introduction of this wonderful character! :)
@cripplermaximus The cluelessness and performative naivete that comes up too often for my taste. Her fear in this clip is missing the spirit of the scene completely.

You're entitled to your opinion (though your inability to even attempt to support it says a lot), but I don't share it. While the narrative is relatively simple (a deliberate choice, I think) the world-building happening in the background is some of the most coherent, interesting, and detailed in modern cinema. The movie indirectly addresses everything from class relations to labour strife to monopolization. If you're not seeing that, it's because you're refusing to look. Your lazy choice to analyze so superficially to give yourself a cheap ego boost is on you.
One of THE greatest characters in the history of cinema.

No one could’ve played this character better. They wanted Prince, they needed Tucker.
Prince just took himself too seriously to play a character that takes himself too seriously.

Not every movie has to be cerebral, you watch this to relax and have a memorable fun time.
