- Sony has put the PlayStation 4 on a diet. On September 7th, Sony announced an updated "Slim" PS4, as well as a more powerful 4K-capable PS4 Pro console. The slim variant will phaseout the existing "older" PS4 consoles on store shelves. Aside from the build construction, the PS4 (Slim) features the same internal specifications. Though, it now has support for 5GHz Wi-Fi and contains no optical port.

If you already have an original ps4 then don't buy it but don't hate either. This console is Quieter, more power efficient, looks better imo, and has an upgraded wifi antenna.
Exactly, well said. The PS4 I have (which I got 3 months after release) gets a tad bit loud when playing the most beautiful game, Uncharted 4. I assume the Slim runs quieter.
George Solo But if your using wifi then the slim will most definitely be a huge upgrade, well depending on your wifi it will.
I actually use wired internet now, but I am very happy with my slim purchase. It's still running well and if aything goes wrong on it I have the 2 year warranty but from experience I believe technical difficulties are rare with Sony. They only have server issues sometimes and I think thats all xbox has on sony is better server quality. Sony needs to step up! lol

At first I actually didn't like the design of the PS4 Sim, but now that I see it under a TV it looks pretty cool. I am happy with my PS4 original that I just bought in early August, but this looks like a sweet deal non the less.
It's an amazing console. It's whisper quiet, it never overheats and it's cheaper than the pro 👍

I got the slim seven years ago and it's been one of my awesome gaming companion. To be honest, I prefer the pro but the store has no available so I got the slim. Hope that console is still functional and enjoy gaming.
I ordered mine today as a grad present to myself, and its coming in after tomorrow!!! This is my first console ever im so excited!!!

Did they change anything with the controller between the OG PS4 controller and the controller with the Slim? I know that the Xbox One S controller is an updated version... Did they do something similar with the new PS4 controller? Im looking to buy a new one so I'm trying to see if thats a thing...
CHIA the new dual shock 4 that comes with the slim has a small lightbar that is on the top of the touchpad and the dpad,analog sticks and r1,r2,l1,l2 buttons have a greyish colour and the area surrounding the dpad and buttons are matte.
I miss the gloss so does fingerprints

My fat PS4 died on me.. That beeping death thingy... So i bought the slim to replace it. I like that it's smaller than the original one. I also like that the slim has a more simpler, no nonsense design. All that matters is that it plays great looking games!

naw, I actually have all OG Playstation devices, none of that slimmed down stuff.. I give my children the Xbox stuff... and if anyone is being unloyal it would be Playstation, expecting for ppl to buy the same devices slimmed down, instead of producing new, innovative, and progressive technology in their devices, they do these money grabs devices to maximum their profits... there is absolutely no reason in 2016 why these new versions don't have a 4k player.....
This is an upgrade, with more features, including the one I find most useful; the hard drive flap.
The Slim replaces the original in stores, this isn't a money grab attempt dumbass. Not to mention the slim is cheaper and comes with Uncharted 4 for free with no price addition.
