  • This is a slowed down Time-lapse of me working on an elephant I painted and auctioned off for World Elephant Day. I wanted you to be able to see more clearly how you can gain texture in your yupo paper paintings so I go into a bit of a deeper explanation of how I achieved this look.
    To see the stamp and the inkpad I used in this video, please see my related video here: • Best Yupo paper tip us...
    The stamp I used is called Craft Smart premium texture sheets and you purchase them in a set of three. They look like tree bark, gauze, and dots. People have been able to find them at Michaels in the craft clay area.

    Such an interesting texture you get with the stamp and ink pad. Thanks for showing how you painted this elephant. Turned out great. Will have to check out hobby lobby to see what new stamps they have. Tfs

      I love this video!! What kind of brushes do u use and do u just mix ur alcohol colors with water? Also, can u use other pencils besides prisma and must they b wax pencils?

    That is gorgeous! When you use alcohol inks do you add any medium like water or alcohol to the paint or just dip your brush in it? I'm just starting to play with it and I had a cup of alcohol sitting near me actually a lot of alcohol and it bout made me feel drunk! Lol. But I've never painted with it before so wasn't sure how. You are just amazing. I'm gonna watch more of your stuff!

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  7 років тому

      Shersan2 😂 Well, for the alcohol ink I just touch the tip of the bottle to the tip of my paintbrush and then dab off the excess onto a paper towel before I begin dragging the brush across the paper. This is what you would want to do if you intend to try to control the medium. If you want to be abstract and are in for the ink doing its own thing, try dropping straight from the bottle and watch the ink bloom onto the paper - it's really cool!

    I absolutely loved it, but I love all your work. I'm going to buy some posters of yours when I get around to it. Do you do on- line classes for your painting techniques. Thank you for sharing

      How kind of you, thank you! Currently I do not offer classes, but I appreciate your asking. I would love to and perhaps in the future I'll be able to make time to do this!

    I’m new to using inks as watercolors. This piece is beautiful. I have done a lot of watercolor over the years.
    My question is why you use the alcohol ink on the tusks and where can I order the Yupo paper?.

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  Рік тому +1

      Great questions! I used the alcohol inks for the tusks because I wanted control over the texture and using a small paintbrush gives me that. Yupo paper is widely available now in retail art shops, but I purchase mine on Amazon.

    When you use the alcohol ink on your painting, do you use alcohol instead of water on the paper?

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  6 років тому

      Linda Wilson I use blending solution by Tim Holtz which helps blend the alcohol inks together. 😊

    Hi Ellen, I can't seem to find an ink pad called "Stampabilities". Have you tried any other ink pads to act as a resist? I love that idea for interesting textures! Thanks :)

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  5 років тому

      Claudia Chappel i’m sorry you’re having trouble finding that particular brand. What I would suggest searching for is an ink pad that has mostly gold, silver or bronze tones that are semi transparent. I think these are the ones (those that look like metal) are the ones that provide the most resist. If I am able to locate anything similar I will definitely let you know! 😊

    Hi Ellen, Do you draw your images on the Yupo paper before painting?
    Thank you, Mary Domhan

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  3 роки тому

      Hi, Mary! I very lightly sketch out the basics, but only for perspective. Too much detailed sketch work really constricts the beauty of the movement these inks create (in my opinion)

      Hi, Marti :) I began searching for this exact stamp recently for a friend and I am concerned that it's been discontinued because I can no longer find it either. If I'm able to locate one I will post within this video in the description box.

      @@EllenBrennemanStudio Thanks! I appreciate your help. I thought I had found it on Simon Says stamps, but it so fine that it won’t stamp from the pigment stamp pad!

    Are the two sides different? I find that one side holds my ink pen better while the other “skips” a little and doesn’t create rich lines with my pens.

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  4 роки тому +1

      I don't have that problem, myself. Perhaps it varies by the brand?

    The very technique, ink pad and cotton gauge stamp, was an important part of the results....😔
