My husband, when he was alive, really loved Jacques Pepin. He made many of Pepin's recipes and would be so thrilled whenever he saw him on TV. He would sit with pen and paper to take notes and didn't want to be disturbed. After, it was all he talked about until he got to make the dish. I am going to make this dish!
I hope you made it immediately. What a wonderful way to honor your husband in your everyday life! You see a Jacques Pepin video - you make the dish as soon as can be, because that is what your husband would do!
You must read his biography. He speaks about his mother and what she did everyday during the war to find food for the family. His father was part of the resistance. He is one of my heroes.
Kristen, your humility and your genuine sense of awe in front of Jacques make this really special. I love how you treasure each moment with such a well established figure. Such a treat for him to have such a darling host. You've won me over.
When Tony Bourdain said “listen to Jacques pépin... that’s god talking” I became an immediate fan. This is a beautiful study in youth vs wisdom. Long live Monsieur Jacques!
I like his quietness, gentle narrative, bits of fun, confidence, total command of his craft - HIS QUIETNESS. Celebrity chefs generally annoy me with their ego, noise, rushing about like a wet hen. This man doesn't have to perform, just does his peaceful, clever thing, with lovely results.
Jacques has various degrees, is an artist, and the best teaching chef in the history of our country. How many generations has he taught and how many chefs has he inspired when he teaches them at culinary school. Icon.
Just the one comment about breaking eggs on a flat surface so as not to introduce bacteria into the egg. I got sick last week (very rare for me), and I think it was from breaking eggs that way! Well now I know!
Kristen made the presentation very pleasing and interesting. She let Jacques carry the conversation at his pace, rather melded with his talk making it very memorable. She blended with everything was relaxed and not loud and obtrusive. A presentation to remember and along with the recepie. Wish you the best Kristen....
She also has a very nice understated manner and a charming voice and tone, never overcrowding the master. Well done! (PS Much as I like Claudine, can't say the same things about her, even if she is his daughter. That's one thing I didn't appreciate about the series JP did with her. That contrast didn't work for me.)
It is always such a pleasure to listen to him. His humility is refreshing in this world of "look how cool I am". Toujours un paisir d'ecouter ses histoires.
See Jacques Pepin in the title, automatically click to watch, hit the like button and then sit back and enjoy the video. That's how good I think he is.
Happy belated birthday to THE real only Gem of an honest Chef. Love him very much and I wish many more years to you Jacques!! Only honest Chef worth listening to and learning from. I’m 53 yrs old now and can only hope I look that good. Happy Cooking to you Jacques!!
Mes hommages à monsieur Pépin. Une immense source d’inspiration culinaire. J’ai eu la chance de pouvoir le suivre à la télévision de Montréal et j’ai toujours eu un grand plaisir à faire ces recettes, et surtout les dégustées. Chapeau bas grand chef.
This guy is always so genuinely sweet about his cooking and with other people. I would spend a whole day with him just dicing onions and listening to his stories
What a breeze of fresh air: No tattoo, no yelling, no moving like a mad dog with an über ego... simply cooking with love and artful enthusiasm. J'adore ! Merci Jacques and merci Kristen for your elegance, class, and "bienveillance". À l'ancienne !
I just love the way that anyone who has the honour to cook alongside him is just so obviously in awe. The man is an absolute legend. I learn in 5 minutes with him, more than I do in 5 hours of most cooking videos...
Monsieur Jacques has forgotten more about cooking good food than you and I will ever know! He is a gem. 9:50 Aaaah, la famille! Jacques Pépin is a living treasure.
Happy 84th Birthday to my Culinary Teacher and one of the best Chefs this World 🌎 has ever Known! May God bless you and your family always! Merci Jacques Pepin
I have watched so many cooking shows featuring Jacques. I just love his way of cooking. He can go rustic to 5 star and it's never a big deal to him and always has a sense of humor. I just enjoy him immensely. He reminds me of my grandfather. A great teacher.
I have been watching Jacques since I was 12...I am 49 now....sometimes I just have his programs on in background while working at home because his voice is so calming.....LOVE all the dishes. Simple, elegant and not fussy. C'est Formidable!!!!!
What a wholesome video. Love Jacques’ unwavering demeanor. He’s exactly how I remember him from 20+ years ago. Great to see his daughter too. I loved the episodes where he cooked with his granddaughter too. Living legend.
I have decades of watching Jacques, both on his own and with others. And of course, nothing is better than Jacques and Julia. He is an absolute, one-of-a-kind treasure. I met him once at a book signing. Jacques...thank you for inviting me in to an amazing world of culinary knowledge! And you are a wonderful, gentle human being.
i remember watching him teach his daughter to cook on the PBS series they did together, but nothing will ever top him cooking with Julia Child. my mom and i used to look forward to watching them together every weekend.
Kristen you are very charming and wonderful. Your way of presentation is so charming that it feels as if you are talking to the viewer. I sit riveted to the screen Your humility drips from every corner the way you talked with the great Jacques. Look forward to more such videos, a long life to Jacques and wonderful times to you ever Thank you.
Been watching him for over 30 years and before him Julia. Always enjoyed his shows and recipes. He is a great communicator. I remember him young...as I do myself.
I remember when I was a kid in the early 90's almost every weekend I would try to catch Jacques Pepin, Martin Yan, and Jeff Smith on PBS in their respective cooking shows.
I have several of his books and I thoroughly enjoy using them. Watching him over the last thirty five years has taught me much about cooking good dishes.
Ils vous appellent maintenant grand-père P. This is by far and away the best way to cook eggs! I've had (and made) eggs every which way, and this is the one that my children clammer for again and again. The techniques are so basic and I use them everywhere! Sauces from roux, tempering eggs, eggs as a leavener in a bake, buttering the dish... I never knew souffles were this easy! Thank you @Food52 for publishing this gem!
Ok, you got me. Jacques is just best evar, so many fond memories of him and Claudine teaching me what I wanted to know to be a better chef! But Jacques + Kristen ... MAGIC! Thank you.
One of the many things about Chef is how effortless his cooking is and it's simple elegance. To an everyday home cook, it makes quality cooking non-threatening.
It is genious! I'm with the daughter here I do this with pumpkin puree to make a stunning silky fluffy cheesy pumpkin souffle. Might as well get the veg in where you can.
I used to watch Jacques and Julia all the time when I was young. Other kids were watching cartoons and I was watching cooking shows. The thing I love about his style of cooking is that he makes fancy, luxurious, food simple.🍷
My husband, when he was alive, really loved Jacques Pepin. He made many of Pepin's recipes and would be so thrilled whenever he saw him on TV. He would sit with pen and paper to take notes and didn't want to be disturbed. After, it was all he talked about until he got to make the dish.

I hope you made it immediately. What a wonderful way to honor your husband in your everyday life! You see a Jacques Pepin video - you make the dish as soon as can be, because that is what your husband would do!
That's a wonderful story, I like that!
Those days when there was no internet, no computers all you had a was a pen and paper!
You must read his biography. He speaks about his mother and what she did everyday during the war to find food for the family. His father was part of the resistance. He is one of my heroes.
patysays name of the book?
Book is "The Apprentice: My Life in the Kitchen" :-)
Wendy Williams awesome, thanks.
Thank you for telling me about his book. I just put it on hold at my library.
One of a kind world treasure.
This video actually came out at Pépin's 84th birthday. Happy birthday to him, look at how vital is at 80+ years. Respect!
Gotta be the wine...
Pépin is the best. What a boss.
HE IS A TRUE TREASURE, LOVE HIM TO BITS.
I thought he was saving the butter flower as a garnish, instead he put it in the pot...along with the rest of THE ENTIRE STICK OF BUTTER. I love that.
My goodness, may I be half as good as he at 84! A wonderful person xx
Kristen, your humility and your genuine sense of awe in front of Jacques make this really special. I love how you treasure each moment with such a well established figure. Such a treat for him to have such a darling host. You've won me over.
Actually, I’ve never heard of him
I felt the same way watching this.
Love him.
Kristen's awe and wonderment of cooking with Chef Pepin is apparent. It was a delight seeing this.
@@charmianjohnson2364 LOL it's not something to be proud of
I like his coy sense of humor. Also his "it's no big deal" approach to everything.
*makes a butter flower* that's Jacques alright :)
Exactly my sentiments.
It's called being french. Buh!
You summed that up perfectly
A real gentleman !!!!
When Tony Bourdain said “listen to Jacques pépin... that’s god talking” I became an immediate fan. This is a beautiful study in youth vs wisdom. Long live Monsieur Jacques!
I didn't know that about Bourdain (who I also loved), he didn't mince words -- Jacques is the cat's meow!!
@@lavenderbee3611 Find the video where Bourdain interviews Pepin. I've never seen him look so star struck and nervous.

I enjoyed Kristen's absolute enjoyment of every moment with THE chef!
He really is the best, I love this guy. Wish I could meet him.
Presenter was great as well. Although her part was naturally limited, she asked good questions and intervened only when necessary.
Just the one comment about breaking eggs on a flat surface so as not to introduce bacteria into the egg. I got sick last week (very rare for me), and I think it was from breaking eggs that way! Well now I know!

Jaques Pepin is the very definition of a living legend.
This video never gets old … I think today is the day I make try to make ut for the first time.
Cheer’s to Jaques Pepin a true treasure of the world.
Le Technique...... say no more.... Merci Chef Pepin....
Best teacher in the world! I've learned so much from Chef Pepin over the years; very special indeed.
He taught me how to cook from tv. I am a good cook, and he helped me feed my family. Thank you Mr Pepin.
Mr Papin mil gracias admiro todas sus ricas recetas fabulosas soy Mexicana y tambien admire a su amada mama's bendiciones para familia maravillosa

How can you not love Jacques? He is so humble, yet the chef of all chefs. An amazing person. Thank you Jacques!
That souffle is astonishing and he's just flinging it together. He's just so lovely.

One of these things is not like the others.
Yeah! I also hate tattoos but I also enjoy people with artful enthusiasm. Yeah!
I shall give you advice and tell you not to check out matty Matheson (love matty tho) 😀
I heard he has a fleur-de-lis tattoo on his ass.
(kidding, I'm just starting internet rumours)
Don't really see a correlation between having a tattoo and one's behavior.
I love the host..she's a good soul..you can tell.. kind, patient and respectful..well done
Great teacher, he is one of a kind, a treasure.
While we wait, I will effortlessly make butter garnishes.
😂😂😂
Ikr!

Technical skills beyond belief and a genuinely nice person.
I watch anything he does. And try just about anything he cooks. He is so accomplished at explaining the steps and simplifying. Love him.

Jacques & Julia taught me to be brave & cook with confidence by the magic of tv!
I could watch Jacques Pepin all day long. And this recipe really is worth of the title "Genius"!
I love Jacques Pepin! Not a sentence goes to waste, he is always teaching!

We agree :)
i remember watching him teach his daughter to cook on the PBS series they did together, but nothing will ever top him cooking with Julia Child. my mom and i used to look forward to watching them together every weekend.
Agree what a dual of dynamite.
I found Claudia kinda annoying when she was on his old PBS cooking show. She seemed kinda clueless at time.
Two of the very best!
Wish they would play some of the
old series he and Julia did on PBS.....
Susan Murrell a lot of the episodes are on UA-cam

Jacques is so cool. So great to see him and hear his stories.
Jacques - my hero. Thank you for all the years of great food and humor. You are a great man. Bless.
I made this for dinner a couple nights ago, and it was the best thing any of us has ever eaten. Thank you Jacques and Maman!
Thank you again and again and again Jacques. You are an original, authentic and an inspiration in technique, style and demeanor.
A lovely man and a legend. Always humble, full of knowledge, and never a hint of pretentiousness in his cooking.
What a treasure! I used to come home from middle school and early high school and watch Jacques Pepin with my mama on PBS. So relaxing.

Jacques Pépin is such a class act! I love him!
Jacques is the chef’s chef. So classy, so funny, so humble and so experienced. He’s the reason I took up cooking. Much love to you chef!!
Happy Cooking! and Cheers to Jacques Pepin!
To look that good in your 80s, clearly French cooking with plenty of butter and cream is the secret.
Along with a very fine, loving disposition.
look up the French paradox

Ah yes, the French way, ..."you can have a bottle of wine." while you wait for your souffle to bake. I agree!!!
Yes, so do we :)
Love watching and making his recipes. He is such a great instructor for young and old. Many Blessings for You and Your Family. Thank you. 🍃♥️🕊
Can I just say how beautiful the lighting is in this vlog!!!
Best chef in the world
What a great video! Jacques is an excellent teacher. I agree with him about the chives too - a great herb
So sweet, so humble, so accomplished. I'm going to try this for our Christmas morning. It's the only day each year that we have breakfast as a family.
I suggest you try it 2 or 3 times before, because I suspect it's not quite so deceptively easy as it looks.
I’m going to try my first soufflé with this recipe! Thank you
It is such an amazing opportunity that you got to work with Jacques. A legend.
I love this guy for all his talents.
Jacques Pepin helped me get over my fear of French cooking and I have been following him for years! This is just lovely.
A true master at work
I love the interaction between you guys! He's amazing.
Jacques Pepin is a treasure
I always enjoy Chef Pépin's cooking lessons and his stories.
A true master with a winning personality. Always enjoyable to watch and learn.
SO charming; love this
I always loved watching his show on PBS. Classy gentleman.
I’m hungry 😊
