Brian Wilson was the genius behind The Beach Boys. Pet Sounds was his brainchild. Even the Beatles took notice of his innovation and answered with Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.
This song challenged the Beatles to create more conceptual type albums. Its hard to really tell now but this song really set a standard for recording artistry.
You nailed the whole purpose of having the theremin sound during the "good vibrations" parts... almost. It wasn't supposed to be like Halloween lol. It's supposed to represent the vibrations growing higher and higher as they repeat the lyric. Like the good vibrations keep getting higher...
The instrument that made the spooky sound at the end was called Tanner's instrument, or Tannerin, after the inventor Paul Tanner. This instrument was used in many science fiction movies and TV series - most notably "My Favorite Martian." Sadly, Paul Tanner passed in 2013. Genius. Unique. Innovative. All apply, but this was being done by a band that was VERY successful and whom all eyes were on. Such a departure can be risky. Success is its own reward.
Yeah.... One of the most complex songs of it's era about love and fun. That is what pretty much all of the Beach Boys catalog is about... fun, sun, girls, and surfing...
I believe it was the most expensive song to make at that time, frequently cited as the best single of all time. But it hits people differently, of course. Good vibrations to one person are mediocre to someone else. Like with love, you have to find music that gives you good vibrations. For me it does.
You posted a beautifully crisp version of that classic song. I had heard that Brian was with his wife when a ladyfriend of both of them was visiting with her dog, and the lady told them that dogs give out vibrations. So that's how the idea for the title of the song came to him. I'd wondered if the frequency-used term "good vibes" originated with that song. I think the term "vibes" or "vibrations" may have been in usage, but the Beach Boys use of the word definitely kicked the term into popular usage. Thanks for posting it. Are you both from India?
American Icons, what else can be said except everyone that came after them( including the Beatles) learned harmonies from them. They definitely encapsulated the beach culture.
I heard about the 'reactions' video's from the current best conservative radio show host in America Andrew Wilkow who is a fellow politically conservative and rock 'n' follow like me..u guys by far are the best ones I've seen You play the whole song all the way through unlike these young kid's nowadays who pause the song continuously and don't fully experience it..I am "Young" and in my 30's so..
"Good Vibrations" is the precursor of all the progressive rock movement to come! the structure of the piece, its arrangement, its sophistication are the basis of the progressive rock genre (where it will take 10 to 20 minutes for Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer or Genesis to create a piece, The Beach Boys have made a mini-suite in only 3 minutes and 35 seconds). brilliant and in my opinion the most important song in pop-rock history.
Yes, sort of. However, this was more like birthing a baby. The baby was the creators idea of how the music should have been played and Brian had the song in this head and every part had to be played, the notes and tone of the music need to be sharp. No sloppy playing. Play your "A" game or go home. I can not blame him for what and how he wanted the studio musicians. I suspect this was the part of mental issue he had, that all I will say about this. He speak about it himself. Brilliant composer and person. My Respects to him and the other Beach Boys.
The lyrics in this song don’t matter. It’s “all about the music”. The level of sophistication in the structure and use of tone colors is unique for pop music. Leonard Bernstein, the director of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, once described Brian Wilson, the fellow that wrote this song as a musical genius. Mr. Bernstein’s comments were based on the body of Mr. Wilson’s work. Mr. Bernstein also described Brian’s song “Surf’s Up” as the greatest song ever written by anyone, including those songs of classical composers. This so “freaked out” Brian that the song wasn’t released until about a decade later when Brian was no longer with the band. He left the band for health reasons.

One of the greatest songs of the 1960's if not ever!
A masterpiece done in a studio with the best musicians of the era, The Wrecking Crew. Classic California sound!

@@alexshkoditch4593 No it is not. Please follow the links I supplied in the original comment. Many people think it was a theremin. Not true!
One of those handful of songs you listen to during its release and say 'now that's taking it to another level'

Hello from the U.S. This is a classic.

Great harmonies 🔊😊
this song and most of the Beach Boy's music was recorded by the Wrecking Crew , then duplicated by artists during live performances ,

A Beatles fan, friend of mine, almost blew his top when I said I'd rather listen to The Beach Boys.
I meant it though. 🤣
