I remember playing in a small local tournament one week before the 2010 UK Open, less than 20 players on a Bank Holiday Monday at the old Sportsman's Inn on Duke Street in St. Helens...
Mike was using it as preparation for the following week and he wiped the floor with everything in his way that day, didn't loose a leg, missed D12 for the nine darter numerous times throughout the day, beat Capper Welding in the semi and a post BDO world final Chizzy - to everyone there it felt like something special was emerging, and basically watching an exhibition for £3 entry 😂

One of the great things about darts is that it gives ordinary blokes (or women) a chance to stand out and earn a lot of money. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy sports like tennis as well, but you don't get many people coming from the streets in that sport.

Played so well in the final everyone wrote him off like they always do and he proved them wrong! MVG had a fairly easy run to the final no one turned up or put it up to him and as soon as Smith did he cracked!

Michael, as a long-time admirer of yourself, even partially incorporating your style of quick expedient delivery of all three darts per round, the one thing I can't learn from yourself is language.
We in the states learned English from you guys, why on earth can't I understand a single word you say?!!
    😄😂🤣

He seems like a great guy but one thing I noticed, if this was a role reversal and it was a female player talking about how her husband takes all the winnings and pays her a small salary every week, and informs her that if she doesn't do well in the next tournament she'll have to give up, people would be calling that an abusive relationship.

But there isn’t so it’s irrelevant. Many blokes get their wives to control their finances, we’re shit with money 😂 gender stereotypes exist for a reason
