"You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma" is a 1981 single from the film Any Which Way You Can, performed by David Frizzell and Shelly West. It was written by Larry Collins and Sandy Pinkard (of Pinkard & Bowden). The song was Shelly West's debut on the country chart and David Frizzell's second hit on the country chart. "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma", was the most successful of seven country hits by the duo, staying number one on the country chart for one week and eleven weeks in the Top 40 country chart.
David Frizzell (born September 26, 1941) is an American country music singer. He is the younger brother of country music legend Lefty Frizzell. His career first started in the late 1950s, but his biggest success came in the 1980s, 30 years into his career.
Shelly West (born May 23, 1958) is an American country music singer. Her mother was the country music star Dottie West, whose career spanned three decades. The younger West reached her peak in popularity during the 1980s before mostly retiring in the wake of her mother's death.

Lyrics:
(Verse 1: David Frizzell)
There's a full moon over Tulsa
I hope that it's shining on you
The nights are getting cold
In Cherokee County
There's a Blue Norther passing through
I remember green eyes and a rancher's daughter
But remember is all that I do
Losing you left a pretty good cowboy
With nothing to hold on to
Sundown came and I drove to town
And drank a drink or two
(Chorus)
You're the reason God made Oklahoma
You're the reason God made Oklahoma
And I'm sure missing you
I'm sure missing you
(Verse 2: Shelly West)
Here the city lights out shine the moon
I was just now thinking of you
Sometimes when the wind blows you can
See the mountains

And all the way to Malibu
Everyone's a star here in L.A. County
You ought to see the things that they do
All the cowboys down on the Sunset Strip
Wish that they could be like you
The Santa Monica Freeway
Sometimes makes a country girl blue
(Chorus)
You're the reason God made Oklahoma
You're the reason God made Oklahoma
And I'm sure missing you
(Verse 3: Both)
I work 10 hours on a John Deere tractor
Just thinking of you all day
I've got a calico cat and a 2 room flat
On a street in West L.A
(Chorus)
You're the reason God made Oklahoma
You're the reason God made Oklahoma
And I'm sure missing you
I'm sure missing you
I'm sure missing this music
Timeless Era
I'm somebody but not that guy
❤
"New Country" listeners ...this is what the real thing sounds like. Real Country Music!
Dang right, not this "new country rock" noise they call county. When you have "cowboys" mouthing rap, it is time to go. I wouldn't listen to them even if I'm drunker then who shot John.
This song brings me back to being a 17yo boy in the Summer of 1982 and meeting a beautiful girl named Lisa in Fulton, Missouri while visiting my grandparents on their farm! The night air was perfect, the evening was magic and I’ll never forget her or the night we shared as long as I live! I’m 57 now and counting. What a wonderful and innocent time
In my opinion after 60 years a a C&W fan, this song and version is the best all-time C&W song of all time - words, melody, music, performance!
In one word that says it, all. Classic.

Great Song. Thanks for sharing.
This song came out in the early 80s when I was in my "Dukes of Hazzard"/Country Music Stage. Today I was thinking about Sheryl Crow singing "until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard" and that led me to this tune that mentions the Santa Monica Freeway.
I would love to hear this song and many more songs from the 80s played on todays radio
Legendary song, legendary singers

The full means a lot to me. When I let someone who I love go. I tell look in the sky at the full moon. Because I'm looking at it to. And wondering how you are doing.

This song is too short.
THATS WAY I PLAY IT OVER & OVER & OVER & 100 TIMES LATER OVER & OVER
Who are the background vocalists? Specifically, who is singing bass?
I’ve always loved song! Sadly today, the Santa Monica Freeway Isn’t very visible do to the horrible fires going on at this very minute. 🙏 for all 1st responders and evacuee's trying to get out!
