Ketoprak is one of the most famous Indonesian street food dishes in Jakarta, and it’s available throughout the city, often from street food carts. In this video, I went to one of the most famous restaurants in all of Jakarta, known as Ketoprak Ciragil, for a taste of their legendary ketoprak.
I arrived quite early, way before any meal rush, and the semi-indoor restaurant was already packed with customers, especially people grabbing takeaway ketoprak to deliver to customers. After navigating my way in, I saw them adding fried tofu, noodles, and a mix of other ingredients, and then mixing in their special peanut sauce, and finally finishing the ketoprak with a fried egg all on top, and a handful of crackers.
The ketoprak was a little sweet, but it was still remarkably delicious. It was such a simple mixture of ingredients, but they all went so well together. What really made the ketoprak at Ketoprak Ciragil for me was the fried egg on top, mixed with the peanut sauce. Along with one of the best versions of ketoprak in Jakarta, the restaurant is also just a pretty cool place to go and hang out for a light meal or snack.

Ciragil is bar none, the best ketoprak in Jakarta. At least the best ketoprak I ever tasted. They are more expensive than the normal ketoprak because they mixed peanut sauce with lots cashew nut... its so creamy and umami... My favorite is with salted duck egg.. nyamnyam.. Mark, I appreciated you come to Jakarta... keep on filming..cheers

Hey, Mark. It's been an enjoyable moment finding this UA-cam channel of yours. As an Indonesian myself, I truly love all of those food that you've eaten, not only the Indonesian ones but the others too! Unfortunately, you missed one vegetable-related dish while you were here in Jakarta. It's called "Asinan Sayur", same as the other, mixed veggies with peanut sauce, what makes it different from Gado-Gado or Ketoprak is that it has some sourness, some freshness that you can taste while you're eating them. That's just a recommendation that I can give to you, in case you'd go here anytime soon. Try exploring different cities too! Cheers!
Additional note : in this Ketoprak Ciragil stall, I can spot a dessert cart with a label of "Es Podeng", you should give it a try too! You can find it almost everywhere in Jakarta, since it's one of the specialty dessert of this city.

I'm agree with you. you can try it in Setiabudi, they sell delicious Mie Aceh in 3 different style (goreng, kuah, or tumis), and many toppings.

Wow, Mark amazed with the fact that you found this place. They've been selling ketoprak tens of years ago and definitely top 2 ketoprak in Jakarta. They mix peanut with cashew nuts for the sauce. That's why the sauce taste amazing.

Was your ketoprak garlicky? You didn't mention, but garlic should be the dominant flavor in ketoprak. Also since you love spicy chili, you probably need to tell them "yang pedas ya" (make it spicy please), else they might reduce the chili assuming a white guy can't eat too spicy food.

how i miss my daily breakfast when i was un Jakarta.. either ketoprak or bubur ayam ..
But my favourite is ketoprak which made by "ulekan" or grinded nuts directly in the plate.. and with "ketupat"..
my brother once took me to an Indonesian restaurant in dubai and i had ketoprak. till this day i have dreams of that dish.. it must taste insane having it locally.
