Great video of original pre showwaddywaddy glam 70s Ted's and a great Brittish rockabilly sound of Billy Fury ❤

When working-class British boys and girls colored the drab postwar UK with the flashy clothes of an earlier time, and the sounds of early American rock n' roll. The Teds were the direct ancestors of every British youth subculture that followed them, from Mods to Punks to Ravers, and breathed new and dynamic life into that great nation's culture.

Proper Ted's smartly dressed unlike all the wannabee showaddywaddy 'clones' that rocked up (sorry!) in the late 70's & 80's...thanks for posting 👏👏👏

Wpw! What a revelation. Never seen anything like this!
I was born early Fifties in NZ, a short pants schoolboy at this time. I never knew that the Teddy Boy concept was more of a culture than just a style. I can see now it was not understood and was ridiculed as shown to me, though I later suspected it had more substance. This confirms my suspicion.
An interesting point is that the girls seemed to be split between wearing slightly feminine versions of the boys' attire, or versions of Edwardian women's gear.
Overall, a fascinating post and thanks very much!

I knew teddy boys wore two od socks from my uncle's but I never knew two od shoes the guy standing solo against the wall in his long gray drape and maverick tie. Has one brown shoe and one black. At least it looks like it. But he looks very smart. Edwardian smart.I also noticed that some of the other Ted's have one brown and one black shoe on.

The difference in colour is due to the colourisation of the original black and white photos.

@@stevecantlow thank you but I think it would look smart and od at the same time if they where.

Look-at-That....... British culture at its Best!
No'one was as smart as the Teds.
Not even the Mods. But who cares....
They were both British. Love from London- 2021.

Teddy Boys were equally Irish. Do some research. First Irish Teddy Boys were in 1951. They introduced upbeat Country Boogie to English Teddy Boys when English Teddy Boys were listening to Sinatra and Big Bands. They also introduced the Riverboat Gambler style of vest and tie. Many of the well known London Teddy boys were actually Irish or sons of Irishmen. I was a London Teddy Boy in the 50's.

@@cooldaddy2877 They were teenagers in London, of course some of them would've been irish but to say the irish in London created the sub culture is disingenuous. And obviously you're a mick, otherwise why would you bring up the irish out of nowhere.

@@fyrdman2185 So "Mick" is your second racist slur. Your parents brought you up well. Just to enlighten you further, there were Teddy Boys in Dublin and Belfast in the early fifties. I went over there to dj and saw them for myself. They were the first to wear the Riverboat Gambler style of ties and waistcoats. They were also listening to Country Boogie/Hillbilly music (the precursor to R'n'R) which was unheard of among Teddy Boys in Britain.
