@PTVhistoryproject-- Whoever put this together forgot IPTV (Iowa Public Television) and Public TV stations and networks in Missouri, Arkansas, Alaska, and Hawaii.
I don't remember remember 99% of these considering this was before I was born. Except for WGBH because of how loud it is, it's like the PBS version of the THX logo.
Grew up in the tri-state (North Jerz, where WNET still currently serves my area). Remember that logo and WNYC's (including 2 alternate ones - also remembered it becoming WBIS when I was on vacation in WETA-land in 1996, then WPXN that next year) VERY fondly. Logos not shown: WLIW and WNJM/WNJN (part of NJN, which I saw its last hours in 06/30/2011, my first day of my vacation back in NJ, before handing over to **coughs** NJTV the next day). Now I live near the Big Guava, home of WEDU (It co-produced - before TBN adapted it to the Christian crowd - THE REPPIES. I even passed by the theater where most scenes were filmed!) And on CPTV's logo - it's my second-favorite to WNET's. It's so humanoid, and it looks like an abstract Southern monogram! Being a Barney fan, I'd fill up with delight seeing that thing precede Season 1 eps of Barney & Friends.
The logo at 1:30 has a jingle that is actually a snippet from Mannheim Steamroller's "Fresh Aire" album. I believe it's the second track on there. Also, 0:13 's jingle is from a track on the "Fresh Aire V" album.
Nice collection of logos! There's one I'm looking for in particular... I don't know what station it's from, but it's a graphic of a reel-to-reel recorder running in the upper left corner of the screen, as a synthesized music phrase plays twice. Seen in NYC in the early 80's. Any idea what it's from?
Interestingly, most all of the big three networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) all have sister stations, whose call letters are exactly the same save for the first letter, on both coasts. The West Coast stations (KABC, KCBS and KNBC) hail from Los Angeles, while the East Coast stations (WABC, WCBS and WNBC) are all from New York City. PBS' stations in those cities are KCET and WNET, respectively.
This programme was presented by WQED PITSBURGTH AND WGBH BOSTON And Delta Air Lines You will like the way we fly (Where in the world is carman sandigeo (1991-1995))
Oh and one more thing. I dunno if anyone remembers this. But KET (The Kentucky Network) produced this really strange Adult Math program. It was definitely produced in the early 80's, and just screamed 80's. I remember seeing it on our local PBS station very early in the morning during their GED block. There was also this program called "Write Right". i just wanna see if anybody remembers those.
Regarding Missouri-- you should be able to find some old program intro headers from KCPT in Kansas City, at least. And the 50th anniversary special from KETC in St. Louis does have an old program intro header from the 1970s (with probably the best-sounding synth music I heard for a PBS station).
@bigblueplanet You found it! I never thought I'd see that logo again. I think the version I saw may have been a later version, for some reason I remember smoother-sounding music, and the logo was white on a blue background in the upper left corner. Though I do enjoy seeing the earlier one - I like early Scanimate graphics One of these days I plan to build a small version of one...
@TJCoyote30 Don't know how to link it, but search on 'vegetable soup intro'. Find the one by user jacksorengan. This intro was used on PBS stations throughout NYS for instructinal programming during the 70s, and I imagine, the 80s. Let me know.
1:37 - WCET Cincinnati, Ohio - Pete Rose was in one of those shots along with the Cincinnati Ballet. Coney Island roller coaster (It might have been Kings Island, but that's technically not in Cincy).
I vaguely remember KQED, because I used to live in the Bay Area in my youth (where they have another PBS station, KTEH, for San Jose, where I lived) until I moved up to the Sacramento area ten years ago. How did you get all those logos, anyway?
0:14-0:17 sounds like a small piece from Mannheim Steamroller's "Escape from the Atmosphere" ... 5:16 - 5:22 of Mannheim Steamroller's "Escape from the Atmosphere" matches PERFECTLY, instruments and all, to the piece used.
This is the video that started everyone doing PBS logo videos. Most of it is copied from here and edited a bit, yet have quite a few views. This was uploaded in 2007!!!
@TelephoneRock4ever WNED Buffalo and WXXI Rochester were my local PBS stations and the thing that stinks about WNED vs WXXI is that they aren't showing the new Doctor Who shows. :(
Actually, I think I recall seeing a WTVS logo on some national shows back in the 90s. If memory serves me right, it had a green background with the text "WTVS" inside a dark green circle, and "Detroit" below it (and I think "FROM" above "WTVS"), using a generic synth jingle.
Out of all these logos, barring the PBS logo, only WGBH, KET, and WETA have the same logos here as they do today (even if the animations have changed).
The WCET Cincinnati one looks to me like it was made in the 70s (we already know the WGBH Boston one was). WLVT Allentown also has a very 70s-ish feeling to it, but because of the graphics it looks like early 80s. In fact, it seems easy to tell the "newer" ones apart from ones that were made in the earlier 80s, because of the more awkward graphics. Interestingly, nowadays WNET New York doesn't brand itself as "WNET" anymore---their logo is the big word "Thirteen" (as in channel 13).
I saw a new version of WETA yesterday, which evidently sponsored Ken Burns' documentary on World War II called "The War" (the next part of which I'm watching even as I write this).
15 years later, many more idents were discovered, and the “logo demo” is now 15 minutes long

The Public Television stations in Michigan never produced any nationally-based programs.

Well, read the title carefully. It reads "PBS Logo Demo circa 1989/1990", which means that many of them could be from 1989.
I think WGBH was the logo on this demo closest to where Meredith Vieira was born.
