As a lifetime Leafs fan, let me just say - congratulations. So awesome on many levels. Hall of Famer, Team Canada, Captain of Detroit returns home. Having a manager of such distinction is of incredible value. For all the young players on the team to any free agents looking for a home in a few years, what an advantage it is to have Steve Y as the person in charge. My son played on a team with Red Kelly's grandson for a few years and I got to meet him many times and sit with him and watch games. Looking forward to future battles.
I’m still sooo fantastic excited about this. I have had dreams for years, that Steve Yzerman would Come back to Detroit. Welcome Home Stevie! You have my full support! Go Wings Go!
It sucks that the GM that brought us 3 cups is on his way out by 2020 but its great we got a great GM thats better in this salary cap era of hockey. Ken Holland was the best non salary cap era GM Yzerman is the best salary cap era GM.
He also put the team in a horrible cap situation because he never figured out how to work under a salary cap. Giving players way more than they were worth, keeping guys because he liked them, even though their time had passed. Holland is the most overrated GM in history. Go back and look at some of his stellar moves: His very first move as GM was signing Uwe Krupp to a 4 year, 16 million dollar contract with no insurance and Krupp was known for serious back problems. He barely played and Ilitch had to pay him anyway. Waives Kyle Quincey to keep a 42 year old Chelios, then gives away a first round pick to get him back, which turned out to be Tampa's current goalie. The list goes on.
You can tell this means the world to him when Chris says "the new general manager of the Detroit Red Wings," and Stevie cracks a big smile. He's been waiting for this.
From somebody who’s a diehard Bruins fan, but a hockey fan in general, this is great for Detroit. How awesome would it be if you had Detroit, Boston, Toronto, and Montreal, all competing down to the final 5 games of the season for the playoffs? That’s great for the sport of hockey. It’s like, even though most might not like this, what’s the MLB playoffs without having the Red Sox and Yankees squaring off to go to the ALCS or World Series? It’s great for the sport and it’s great for entertainment. That’s why Yzerman going back to Detroit is a huge deal big picture.
Gosh I can’t stop smiling! He’s home! And no doubt in my mind he will turn this team around. It’s not gonna happen over night but i believe in him so much and he seems determined! 💪🏼
I hope that Michigan fans do not turn on Stevie if things don't go the way they want like they did with Joe D. I know, I know, different circumstances, and as loved as Joe was, perhaps no figure in Detroit sports history is as beloved as Stevie. But as passionate as the fans there can be, they can also be quite fickle.
Illitch's are good people, they could have done Ken Holland wrong but instead gave him a good role keeping continuity in the organization. Wish we could see 85 year old Scotty Bowman be in some role but of course would likely not leave the Blackhawks.
Nayr lledo were good on that... he gets injured all the time & would cost a lot.. we need to draft young talented prospects and possibly sign someone like point???
11:40- 19:24 people need to watch this today more than ever.. patience. This needs to be done right. We're slowly building up to where we need to be. This isn't the NFL.
Thanks for stepping aside Holland, you brought us 3 cups, you did your job, I hope yzerman can match you and maybe bring us more, but this is what the red wings need, on top of it being a great story for detroit yzerman is just a great general manager, and he's agressive in the trade market, something Holland lacked, if yzerman brings us back to empire status i can die happy, I was born in 96 so before 2013 I only knew us as playoff contenders and these last couple of years have been painfull, when datsyuk left it just became hard to watch, if Stevie can build a team around larkin mantha and athanasiou and get us a solid starter a stanley Cup will be within reach, the future is a little brighter...
It was out there like 5 days ago, go google Steve Yzerman New York something that you should find it. And they they started to talk about it on the radio and all that.

They have nothing to be salty about, Steve decided they've been kicking our asses for long enough. He came back from the dark side. Bowman is next. (for what I don't know, just messing).
@Melanie L Holland is a legend HOF GM. So Yzerman is a fairweather Detroit fan for thinking the same? How quickly people forget after a few bad years. Jackass.
We need a franchise player. Hughes, Kakko, & Podkolzin all have that potential, with Kakko probably being the most NHL ready. If Steve can trade into the top 3, we can expedite this rebuild. We would have to swap the #6 & give up any combination of one or multiple second rounders, future high pick(s), a high end prospect, and/or someone on the roster of value. If Steve thinks one of them has the ceiling to be a generational talent, then a future first or, dare I say it, a Mantha or Athanasiou should even be considered in the deal. It would be a high risk-high reward type of deal that, unlike Holland, Steve has shown he's willing to make. We have the assets (draft picks & foward prospects) to move up. If fans want a bold move, that would be it. Shelling out dough & term to players in free agency isn't the way to compete long term in today's NHL. You want a great player, you either draft & develop one or trade for one without handicapping the team in the future.
Ken Holland is pretty much watching his own execution here, lol.
5 років тому+1
This is just the prelude but we need a #1 overall draft pick to build around with newer younger talent plus we need alternative jersey from that Colorado series
Once I heard Steve and Ken were golfing together after he resigned, I knew it was about to happen. Poor Philadelphia, trying to steal a red wing legend. 😂😂😂😂
He wasn't, he left the Wings like a month after this presser lmfao. This was a nice way of firing Holland. We didn't want him anymore, but he put in so much and won us cups that we allowed him to be "promoted," knowing full well he wasn't staying.
I'm a coyote's fan and Wayne Gretzky was a great player but he was a horrible coach and executive Being a great player doesn't mean your gonna be a good general manager but yzerman did good in Tampa we will see what happens
