Stupid title. "The Movie Industry" isn't just about acting. What if i want to be a Director? A Cinematographer? A producer? Editor? Art Director?...etc...
Brennen Johnson Dude, the tips of the video are so generic they can be applied to almost any profession of any industry. But they clearly directed them towards aspiring actors and nothing more (did we even watch the same video?) Thus the Stupidity of the title. Get it now?
As for acting, getting into the movie industry (quickly and easely!) may be a lot about money, luck and network, but staying there and becoming big requires hard work and being actually good at your craft. When you look at the biggest, most successful and loved actors, they are no rich amateurs. They worked hard to get there and they proved themselves many times to stay on the top.

Daniel Belcher Yeah but most people have to work to get in, your making it out as though all the talented people in the film industry only got in because they came from money. I don't think your aware of how the film industry works
Possibly the best tip for getting into the movie industry, which is something you didn't even mention, is to remember that there is SO much more to movies than just actors! There is director, producer, writer, camera men, lighting, sound, make up, costume, editor, special effects, set design etc. There are literally hundreds of roles in a single film.
DON'T PRACTISE IN THE MIRROR.. that is not acting.. acting is very hard to practise, you have practise how to feel genuine emotion in the situation you are acting in.. if you want to become an A-list actor .. try feeling every situation genuinely, don't force expressions in the mirror it will make you look stupid, the right expression comes automaticly when you feel it and also make use of tour surroundings
Nayan that is true very true I would probably say acting should come from 90% on how u genuinely feel and how you would feel in that moment and expression comes out. But u can be smart and look in the mirror and see if those expressions will be easily visible from a camera shot that’s why sometimes you need to overly express a bit so u can properly see the emotions from a camera angle because at the end of the day it is if you want to do big movies.

These tips that Watchmojo makes are very insightful. Let's face it, filmmaking is hard to do. Ever since the dawn of it. What's strange is that there are more movie fans out there today than before and say they want to be a Filmmaker or an actor, a producer, or a screenplayer. I'm not pessimistic on saying the film industry is tough to break in fact I'm not in the film industry neither am I putting myself down or anyone else saying they can't. It's just there are some things that people need to know if they want to get into as a Director or Etc. It all depends on if your vision as a filmmaker, starting from the bottom (obviously or maybe), if your project is good, and just thinking out loud here If it's in your destiny to make a living off from the big screen seen by millions of people. Maybe I'm wrong but don't listen to me, I'm just another small person with a small voice who finds the world a system of the same clique of LA- Passionate but Cynical.
Thank you Watchmojo I have been a huge fan of yours for quiet some time and ever since I was little I've have wanted to become an actress but I have no idea where to start. I have looked at tip videos and researched but I couldn't find any thing. I would even start to give up but then I would watch your channel on UA-cam I saw all the rags to riches stories, and the biographies that you guys post and not only does it gives me inspiration but it also gives me hope.
To everyone asking for a list for film makers, directors, cinematographers, set designers, and etc. The same list applies just disregard tips that are actor specific such as memorizing lines or getting head shots.
I’ve decided to go to college and become a writer, it’s going well to some extent. The plot 9; the book I’m writing is actually original, which is surprising since it’s somewhat of a simple concept, I have no clue how nobody has come up with it. If everything goes well, I’ll have it published and be working on the movie version as a co-producer/screenwriter.
Well in today's day and age if you want to get into the movie industry, youtube and vimeo are the keys. We live in the digital age where it only takes a good idea, passion, and the Internet to get noticed and kick off a career in filmmaking/acting.
I think good old luck and a do-it-yourself attitude is what you really need. Find people to make good amateur videos with, post them on youtube, share them with others, show that you actually ARE a good actor. Make videos of varying length of various types of characters showing off a wider range of roles you can play and the skills you have at playing them. The greatest actors are universalists who also have strong core abilities that they are able to bring with them from movie to movie. Jim Carrey isn't just an actor, for instance, he's a universalist actor who manages to adapt but at the same time bring with him those core abilities. His in particular are playfulness and simply fast thinking. He's able to show off a massive outburst of energy, and he's able to pretend being anyone. While pretention is of course a quality any actor should have, Jim Carrey doesn't really believe in his characters, which is why, in my eyes, you can separate the notion of pretention from the notion of belief. Among actors who are on the other side of the scale, I would include Johnny Depp, who gets into an outright love-affair with his characters, and is great at being sarcastic and ironic. Then there are actors like Leonardo DiCaprio who has the ability to enamor his audience and show passion like no other. Now as an actor yourself, you should ask yourself what is your core ability? What do you bring with you into your characters that makes you special? Are you playful? Are you believable? Are you passionate? You can't play passionate if you simply ain't passionate, that's just gonna be mediocre at best. And if you try to play playful without being playful people are just gonna think you're an idiot. If you don't have any core abilities at, my advice is: give up, at best have it as a possible hobby. You won't become a big star unless somebody malplaces you in a big movie, because you ain't gonna be enough.
I've always wanted to write and direct a shortfilm, because those are the only things I'm interested in these days, but I don't have the sort of contacts or resources to help me pull it off, at least not yet. Better get started on script #347.
These are some really great inspiration tips for anyone wanting to enter in the entertainment industry . I want to director amd hopefully make it to the big screen . However , I dont a crew and dont have equipment but truly enjoy watching movies and seeing great scenes with good acting . And I dont have any experience but I do have good ideas to show . What would you guys recommend me to do when I enroll in college and what film cameras would I recommend me to buy ? I really want to have a success future and of course honest feedback . Thank you .

Ive recently wanted to become a filmmaker, but the thing is Idont have any skills or experience Also makes it really difficult to do something in Missouri
The title and thumbnail are kind of misleading. This really should be called "Top 10 Tips for Becoming a Movie Actor". And perhaps have a thumbnail more befitting it. 'Cos I was lead to believe this list was going to be about directing or just filmmaking in general. I'd love to see a list from you guys on actual tips of getting into the movie industry. While, I guess a couple of these placements could apply to other jobs in the field, I'd prefer another list to be more in-depth on the specifics. Oh, and I'd love for you to do one for writing too, please. ^^
I live in Germany (Frankfurt) and i‘m not able to fly to Hollywood everyday (I‘m 13/14) but I want to be an actor really badly and everybody says I’m really good at acting... HOW CAN I GET A ROLE IN A SERIE/MOVIE ?
I basically do all of these. It's quite obvious. I might be a little egotistical but in a positive way I guess. I know I did my best with my story and know it will at least be good. The only downside is my editing isn't godlike and the people helping aren't on the same page but are helping not to mention aren't good at acting. Well they don't wanna do this besides me! XD But I'm planning on making a book on Wattpad just in case. If it blows up maybe they'd want to fully help. I uploaded a video on Facebook of our first attempts and people liked it. Now I got a girl who I know nothing about trying to talk to me and many people who wouldn't mind being an extra or help. Just the few thousand views. Now imagine more. Also kind of worried about the girl situation, if it works out I'm afraid to not find something genuine.

Bowfinger
