Great vid, thanks. During lockdown I’ve been experimenting in my garden and reducing my selection of antennas. EFHW, MFJ 1979, Ventenna and Buddistick. I set myself a target of 10 minute set up time and tested one antenna against another. Really like your channel thanks for your time, effort and professionalism. 73 M0AZE.

Awesome vid. Very, very good. I think the best of two worlds is when you make an end fed half wave out of RCA 16ga speaker wire. Man, that stuff is nice. Rubbery, flexible, even in the freezing cold. I love that stuff for any field portable antenna. Thanks for great vids!!! 73 OM

A parking place called "the band-aid", gold camp road, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Operate and contact all of the eastern US. Great for field antennas.

I carry my stuff on a motor scooter. One of my antennas is a home brew dipole configured as an inverted "V." I made two dipoles, one for 20 meters and the other for 40 meters, using narrow gauge wire and a 1:1 current balun (cheap on eBay) because it has an S0239 connector (my feed lines all have PL 59 connectors), "cut" to resonance. The ends are simply folded back on the wire so I can always make adjustments in the field. I use an 8 meter long fiber glass telescope pole (removed the top most element) and bind it to my scooter. Usually I have both sets of wires attached to the balun. I stretch them out as far as possible and make the apex angle as large as possible. I don't need any kind of tuner since the antenna is resonant. Oh, the antenna handles up to 100w without a problem.
Alternatively, I use commercially built end fed half-wave mono-band antennas from the German company www.lambdahalbe.de. They have no match box, but rather an adjustable matching stub of window feed line(?) and have a wide band width. My antenna for the 20 meter band is resonant along the whole band (1.1:1

I was temporarily in Whittier due to that my brother lives there. He was PD in La Habra but worked at a phone company and security guard at a Sears I believe as well.. I worked at a Naugle fast-food chain grave, in 87. I didn't like the city and went back to the mountains back home in NM.

Enjoy your videos. This was a great one, thx. But, I am surprised you did not mention or show the many options that Buddipole offers. I work exclusively portable and I sure have the wires too, put the Buddipole in dipole config one of my favorites for 20m and higher and 40m NVIS.

Glad you didn’t mention the Buddipole. Most frustrating thing I own. Have never been able to tune it for 20, 30 or 40 meters. Have never made a contact on one. Repeated requests for help from company went unanswered. Definitely not a good portable antenna in my book.

That’s a real shame as they seem to get a really good following. I’ve just bought a Buddistick to add to my collection of field antennas. I’ve used it mainly on 40 and I use a Buddi Versa Tee with the MFJ 1979 for 20 meters and above. Please persevere as I’m sure it will yield results for you and to enjoy your radio. 73 M0AZE MIke
