  • The 2024 Southwick Motocross provided 4 good motos on Saturday.
The 450cc class saw Honda's Jett Lawrence #1 take his 4th win in 5 races with a 1-2 performance. Teammate and points leader Hunter Lawrence #96 had another solid day to keep the points lead by 3 over Jett Lawrence and KTM's Chase Sexton #4, who won the second moto.
Sexton battled through the Lawrence brothers to go 3-1 for 2nd place overall and put himself back in contention for the title.
The 250cc class saw Yamaha's Haiden Deegan #38 win moto 1 easily with KTM's Tom Vialle #16 finishing 2nd. Moto 2 saw Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Levi Kitchen #47 get the early lead, but a red flag came out due to KTM rookie Julien Beaumer #929 crashing on the opening lap.
The re-start saw Kitchen get the early lead again, but he didn't have enough to stay out front. Deegan scrubbed one of the opening jumps too much, but he kept it upright and took the lead. Deegan would later tip over and hand the lead to Tom Vialle.
Vialle kept the lead until the closing stages when Deegan and Honda's Jo Shimoda #30 caught up. Shimoda sized up Vialle and passed him with 3 laps to go. Vialle tried to return the favor, but he crashed on the last lap and would finish 3rd. Shimoda won moto 2 for 3rd overall after a 9th place in moto 1, but Haiden Deegan settled for 2nd place and took his 4th win in 5 races.
With Southwick done until next year, we now head to Red Bud Track n' Trail in Buchanan, MI for round 6 of the season next Saturday.

Absolutely! Deegan fooled me with that scrub because I thought he'd have thrown away the overall, but he didn't.
Shimoda winning moto 2 took me by surprise when you look at how Shimoda's season has gone.
Jett Lawrence is really reminding me of McGrath on Honda because he always found a way to save the overall wins.
