  • Hey party people! Thanks so much for hanging out with me while I share this new around the house happenings with you! This one is a christmas 2021 special where I share Christmas morning and then the day after! haha We hosted some more people but kept it very very low key and I made some holiday staples. Cook with me; souther style green beans. oh my yes. also made some jammin dairy free mashed potatoes. yes. and then some ham and some easy appetizers! I also cleaned the kitchen up and oh my GOOOOSH our fridge is broken. NOOO.
I totally forgot I also shared a costco grocery haul. probably the smallest haul I've ever gotten from Costco but there it is. I really just went there for the sweet potato crackers and wouldn't you know it we ate almost all of them. And whatever we left in the box I accidentally left outside on the porch and a racoon got into them!!! GROSSSS I need to buy whatever urine it takes to keep the racoons away. lol Going to Amazon now. Thanks so much for hanging out through all of the chaos!
    Best,
    Kim!

Sweet Kim, I know you know this but since your sister's passing, you have not had a break. You moved house, you did a million birthday parties, you did Christmas, Kim you did everything. I would have folded my tent and disappeared. So hope you do get a good rest. Yours in awe, Erika xxx

Give yourself some grace Kim, you have had so many huge life changing events on top of your birthday season and Christmas. It's no surprise that your mind won't shut down. @@thewadsquad I know what you mean Kim. Sending you love. It is so hard.
I lost my sister July 11, 2016. I will miss her for the rest of my days. Emotion sneaks up on me when I least expect it sometimes. So many things remind me of her. Memories of her run through my mind, my heart really. She was such a big part of my family and living without her hasn’t been easy. I remind myself there is no time limit of grief.
It will be 10 years in March since my dad’s passing with aml leukemia and I miss him everyday as well.
The holidays, birthdays, anniversaries are rough. I just want more time with Dad & Barb.
It doesn’t make any sense why those we love so dearly are taken so soon. I know we aren’t supposed to question and wonder why. I don’t understand why such good/loving people are taken from us, why some aren’t given the second chances that others are given and able to keep on. Life is precious.
      Sending you love and support.

Oh, Kim! You touched my heart! You do so much for so many and make it all look so easy! You never complain, you never say “no” or “can’t be done” or “sorry, I don’t have time” - you just smile and say “sure, why not?”!! And that’s just your NORMAL stuff. This year you’ve had so many extra stressors and it’s just all caught up with you for a minute.
Sweet girl, surely you know that everyone loves you and thinks you’re the most special person! I can promise you that your mother doesn’t care about her presents being a little late. And that nobody minds if things aren’t perfect. They don’t even notice because they don’t have your expectations that you put on yourself. The vision in your mind that you had about how something would be is just that - in YOUR mind. Everyone else sees the most perfect dinner, decorations, party, or whatever and is full of admiration.
Take a minute, sit down, and do a mental run through of all you’ve done since you moved. Try to look at it objectively, as if you’re watching someone else. I think you’ll find you’re pretty impressed. Because you’re a pretty impressive person! You joke about “the woman across the room” and so many tell you that YOU are their “woman across the room,” but I get the sense that you don’t believe them. My wish for you is that when you look at yourself as objectively as you can, you’ll discover that you’re your own WATR!
    Happy New Year, Kim! 🎊🥂🎊

If I'm having a day where I don't feel very productive, it gives me great satisfaction to finish up odds and ends of open packages in the kitchen. Hahaha "There's only 6 cookies left in here? There is a seal on the left side of the left door. Its the long piece that goes flat when you close the door. Always close the left side first, then the right so the seal will engage. I have a seal like that also, and when my fridge was delivered , they told me to do this. Thanks for being real!

For the fridge, unplug it and see if it will reset. We just went through a fridge fiasco and unplugging it helped.
Check to see if the back grate is free of dust.
We also now keep fridge thermometers that show the current temp, high and low. Great way to see how the fridge and freezer are doing.

I feel like I would do separate baskets in the laundry room for each person. So 1 for you and Alex, 1 for each of the kids. Then you can do it all and sort as you take out of the dryer. Fold a basket at a time and it goes right to the room. Plus when the kids can help they can take charge of theirs.

As someone who also makes things dairy free, I would say that the mashed potatoes don't taste as good because you're using oat milk that has sugar in it. Unless slightly sweet mashed potatoes are your thing. I typically use unsweetened almond milk, but I know that's a no go for you. There is unsweetened flax milk and also unsweetened Ripple (made from peas). Your kids probably wouldn't enjoy drinking it, but you can use it just for cooking. I've made the mistake of using plant milk that has sugar in it before and it really makes mashed potatoes and mac and cheeze taste funky lol.

Our dog kept coming into the room, I guess trying to snitch, but I told him to go lay down and he went right back out to the living room. My tip on laundry….do each family member separately (I don’t separate by color). Your older girls are old enough to bring their own laundry to the laundry room when it’s full or they need clothes. When there laundry is clean and dry, give it back to them to put away. By separating by family member, it’s easier to put away.

Hope this helps: Keep your potatoes in larger chunks and less crowded ( bigger pan) , that’s why they take longer, no space for water to boil around them. Another reason might be the type of potato used. God bless you and your family!

Kim, for what it's worth an honest fridge repair person told us that ALL bottom freezer fridges eventually experience the same issue you have due to the fact that they require "defrost service" to function properly at least 3 times a year. Our last LG fridge ended up needing 4! It's a flaw in the design that drove us to go with 1 freezerless fridge and 1 separate freezer. Problem solved! It pays for itself within the year. Something to think about. Many repair people do this 😉

For your fridge, put a thermometer in it in the back. Make sure all your vents aren't covered...if they have things against them it will keep it from cooling. And keep the doors closed for several hours. Just opening it often will warm it up a ton.

I told them, when this full, YOU are responsible for washing, drying, folding & hanging this load. Since it's only one load, it is manageable for them. My 10 yr has it down, 6 yr still needs reminders, but that's due to personalities. This has help my laundry life tremendously.

Now that you have so much space in your laundry room you should do the thing where each kid has their own basket or hamper in there so when you get the clothes out of the dryer you just throw that kids' clothes in their hamper so they can easily take them back to their room and put them up.

The condensers are not open in back of refrigerators with coils anymore they are closed off so you can put them flush against the walls and cabinets and they are too large to pull out to clean…so they don’t last but 6 to 10 years…but a delivery guy told me when we bought our new one (that replaced our open coil back one) said to vacuum under the frig often (monthly) because your condenser gets blocked with dust and pet hairs killing your frig. quicker!! So take that black vent looking cover off at bottom front and look under there with a flash light and see if it’s clear of dust and all…it could be that it was never cleaned and choked it being able to breath…Just a thought!! Thanks for all the happiness you brought this year and may you have a great and healthy Happy New Year for 2022!!! 🇺🇸🇵🇷💕👍🎉💥🎆🎇

It's so real life exactly what would or does happen to me, when you are trying to do something for a holiday or any day really. And you just rolled with it! Lol.. It's really real! Our fridge recently did the same thing. We pulled the vent off the bottom, under the freezer door, everything underneath was covered in dust. We vacuumed it all out, carefully. Then unplugged the fridge to reset it, plugged it back in, it works fine.
    Worth a try.....

Anyway, I called the customer service number and they reset it remotely since it was a smart fridge?? Anyway if that hadn't work I read online to reset the fridge by open and closing the freezer drawer three times. And then not to open it for a few hours. It worked after resetting it. I think ours was an LG. Anyway, hope your fridge starts working soon.

As a child I was terrified to touch anything on Christmas morning until my dad said it was time to. When my kids were younger I chose to be more lenient with them, if they opened gifts they at least had to be their own gifts. I swore as a teenager not to have my kids scared of me, I hated being afraid of my parents, they called it respect. My kids are my life and I will NEVER allow them to be afraid of me, I want them to be able to come to me regardless of what the topic is, because I know how it is to not be able to go to anyone about anything. My kids are now adults and they tell me all the time how great and understanding I always was. I know I made mistakes but everyone does because children do not come with a manual. Some people would argue with that but I didn't see one come out with them LOL.

For the potatoes, in my country we have different types of potatoes, some are used for eating just boiled, some are better for fries and some are best for eating mashed and it is based on their starch content, so you may just bought different type this time 🤷🏼‍♀️ And when you put the ones with more starch inside a pressure cooker they can be yucky. 😁
And don't worry, we have our tree (it's a 'live' one) untill about Valentines, because we do put it up on the 23rd and love the smell 😅 so it became a tradition in my house 🎄🤷🏼‍♀️😏

Hi Kim. I learned on a cruise trip a few years ago that the cashew grows out of a fruit. I think we were in Jamaica at the time. The bus driver was telling us they use the fruit to make a very strong adult beverage! Also, the cashew has to be processed before eating because you can't eat them raw from the tree.

We have the same fridge and it can't keep the temperature regulated. It goes between 30 to 55° all the time. Some days it's perfect other days it's barely cold or stuff is frozen. We just got it less than a year ago. Our ice maker and water stopped working. The freezer is finally working normal but at one point it all thawed out or was so frozen I couldn't get the door open. It makes me mad because our previous fridge/freezer was 20 years old. It still worked fine but I needed more room and the drawers were broken. Get a fridge/freezer thermometer to keep an eye on it.

I used to have a smart fridge. When we bought it, we had put the old one (12yrs old at that point) in the garage until we had a chance to have it hauled away, but we never got to it.
Less than a year later we were swapping the fridges around and that old fridge has given us 8+yrs of beautiful service since!
We got a refund on the smart fridge, as the repair people couldn't figure out what was wrong with it.
I do the $15 coffee pots, too, got a 30yr old one sitting on my counter that still works like a dream!

Would highly recommend getting a thermometer to put inside your fridge so you can monitor the temp easily! Sometimes I think my fridge isn’t cold enough and I look and it’s at the right temp. Might be an option!
