The way I saw the widow line was that while a widow grieves someone who has actually died and visits their grave, her husband has only figuratively died (dead relationship), so instead she "stay(s) here and wait(s), grieving for the living". Basically, her husband has stopped giving her love and paying attention, and as such she grieves her loss despite him being alive.

Nothing is confirmed for this song, any interpretation is possible! I personally like the idea that this song is abt Emily Dickinson and her best friend / lover Sue, who went on to marry Emily’s brother. Evermore was released on Emily Dickinson’s birthday and later the song was used in a tv show abt her life (which starred one of Taylor’s friends).

It is not poison ivy, it is English Ivy, it climbs up lattice and onto houses.

Ivy's not about a widow and her new lover. Her husband's very much alive. she mentioned the husband character in the song twice directly..."he's gonna burn this house to the ground", " drink my husband's wine". Ivy is the 10th track on Evermore, and it's sister album Folklore's 10th track Illicit affairs..which is also a affair song. i think she's using the widow line as a comparison. like how a widow goes to the tombstone and grieves for her dead husband. but she's grieving for the living. "living" being her husband and their love. because she's falling for someone else and she can't help it. but she feels immense pain for the love that died. and pain fitting in the palm of their freezing hands..it's one of my stupid theories but because Evermore is a winter album..it was released on 11th dec, it has songs like 'tis the damn season, Dorthea, Evermore..which are winter themed. I think that Ivy's lover was really cold and his hands were freezing, literally XD

I always thought the first verse kinda meant she was waiting for her lover in the cemetery..it was their meeting spot..and there is a widow there grieving for her husband but Taylor is waiting for her lover and grieving for the living (her living husband)

the production on evermore is done mostly by Aaron and we thank him for his service. also you feeling like you're in a forest, that's quite right. when Taylor spoke about making of folklore and evermore, even tho I think it was especially evermore she talked about there, she said something like both she and Aaron just leaned towards the thing that brought them comfort at the time and that was nature, cause like covid, everone was trying to go out on hikes and stuff, so they just went for it. also she mentioned that she made folklore as a spring/summer album, and when she was making evermore, she wanted to cover the rest of the seasons so autumn/winter.
yeah, I love the theory mentioned here already, that it's inspired by story of Emily Dickinson, her brother Austin and his wife and Emily's lover Susan, but I hate the fact that some gaylors take this theory and use it as an argument. like just because she might've written it about a queer situation doesn't mean she's queer herself. if she is queer and someday decides to come out as bi/pan or whatever? absolutely cool. but I hate the constant speculation, it's not right. like people should care about the artist and their music and not their sexuality. and debating about it on the internet is just so wrong.

I get how you thought it was a dead person but no it's not 😭😭 you kind of skipped past a bunch of lines that confirm the love is happening now and the person is alive

I think the whole "grieving for the living" line gives it away. She's married to someone she is not in love with, therefore grives for the love she could have had with this other person who is alive but now can't ever get, because she's already married. And yet she still yearns for something out of her reach now. If we assume the setting is in the 1500s or sth, then divorce would likely not be an option and so endless grive, yearning and of course resentment builds up for the other person.

This song really is probably one of my all time favourites. Its just so pretty. Musically and lyrically. And no i cannot relate either, but i can't relate to most of Taylors songs.
You can interpret it how you want btw. I think its so interesting to think of it like one of them is dead and the main character had to move on. How i thought of it was theres an upcoming arranged marriage and the main character is spending time with the one she loves before that.
You look up videos explaining the song and the comments on them there really is a wufe variety of theories which is part of why i adore it.

The love between her and her “husband” is dead and she can’t escape her feelings for the person who is covering her in ivy so her “husband” would rather burn it all to the ground, but their love is made of stone and can’t be burned down no matter what, even if she is dying to have it die too so she can go back to her normal life

what about when she said this about the lgbt community: “I didn't realise until recently that I could advocate for a community that I'm not a part of.”?

    • @melindatintle9728
      @melindatintle9728 Рік тому +3

@@lostinwonderlandx the line before that statement was
“Rights are being stripped from basically everyone who isn’t a straight white cisgender male,”
She was talking about all types of prejudice in that article. And this statement includes a lot of different types of people that she isn’t a part of.
Her next statement does not explicitly mean that she is not queer.
I’ve only realized this in the last few months. I didn’t realize there was a whole part of the fandom that thought she was queer. I watched their videos with an open mind and learned about queer coding and what it means to the queer community.
I just think there is sufficient evidence in her interviews and lyrics to entertain the possibility that she is queer. She may never confirm or deny one way or the other. She’s let us and encouraged us to read her lyrics and make our own assumptions, stating that she will never confirm directly.
