Dieselgate Passat TDI's are great cars. We bought a 2014 for $11K, right after the scandal hit. It would run all day and night, get 50MPG at highway speeds (70-80mph), and would go 700-800 miles on a tank of diesel. Tons of room, a real German car that's been Americanized but isn't totally dumbed down. It's the size of an Audi A6 but you're paying Jetta money for it. We loved the DSG dual-clutch, it was the perfect transmission for it. We got rid of it because VW gave us 2.5x our money for it under the buyback program, which was an offer we couldn't refuse. That was almost two years ago. Well, a couple months ago we got into a 2015 "fixed" Passat TDI with a manual transmission, it runs great too, but we wouldn't get the manual next time. It's a diesel engine so it doesn't rev that high, so you're constantly short-shifting and it's not a lot of fun, the way a manual trans usually is. The DSG is the transmission to get. So yeah if you can find one for $15K or so, with under 100K miles, definitely grab it. They'll all be gone someday, and unfortunately they're never coming back.
I got a 2013 from carvana after my last car was totaled and I ran out of time running around dealerships finding crap. Carfax checked out, serviced at a dealership regularly. I had a free mechanic inspection from an independent euro shop because a car I brought in earlier (BMW 335d, still want one) turned out to be a money pit. They say its damn near new. 70k miles for 12k in June. I fell in love with it on a 2 min test run after drop off and even more so when I started driving it. I can't wait to do some minor upgrades and mods and get it decked out to be something I'll drive til it dies
I was fortunate enough to get a new 2015 Passat TDI SE w/ Nav and Sunroof that was reduced due to the Dieselgate scandal; purchased in 2018. They gave me 0% interest financing and took $5K off. The best thing about this purchase is that it's basically a garaged vehicle and only has 200 miles on it at this point. The oil changes have been yearly, but it's now considered a collectible due to the insane low mileage and no wear and tear. I haven't decided if I will sell it or keep it long-term.
They did get 45-50. They didn't lie about that. They had an ECM hack that would run an emissions tune when the car had only two wheels rotating (emissions testing). When not in emissions testing, it ran in the normal tune, which bypassed some of the emissions equipment, resulting in more power, better fuel economy and longer life. Even with the fix, which my '15 has, I still get 42-46mpg on the highway at 70-80mph. Mine is a manual.
I have a 2015 TDi SEL Premium. Can confirm it will do 43-45 on the highway all day. Around town, not as good, it is a heavy car and the stop and go will knock you down to around 30mpg in town.
Im not sure if mine has been remedied since diesel gate, but I consistently get between 45/50 mpg on my 20 mile commute (relatively flat) and have had tanks where its been 53mpg. This car has been a life-saver right now 06/01/22 as the fuel prices are killing those with big diesel trucks
@@liveyourlife23 You can call a VW dealership and give them your VIN. I just bought one - a 2015 and confirmed with the dealer that it has the fix, and a VW backed warranty until 162k miles that ends on Feb 16, 2026! What a bargain!
Our Jetta TDI has been a joy to own. Sick fuel mileage, good power, roomy and super reliable. Bang for buck is off the charts. About to trade it in next week for a nice used Passat TDI.
Bought mine Sept 2020. 2012 Passat 59k miles for $11k. SEL trim. At the time there were 4 in the dealership. Within a week all were gone. Great car, extremely smooth drive, great mileage and very spacious interior. Also, great bang for the buck as it comes with literally a *ton* of features for the price.

i traded in my 2011 Toyota Tacoma 4 doors truck for the 2015 VW TDI 5-dr hatchback last year 2021. never regret it. the truck cost $18K with 78K miles. this TDI has 41K for $17K top-of-the-line sticker price for this new 2015 was $28K -$31K. fully loaded. i get 40 mpg easy on the backroad and 52 mpg on the freeway. the only drawback is adding the DEF when reached 10K miles. i had been a VW driver since owned the VW Dasher 5-dr hatchback diesel, got 50 mpg; the VW Rabbit gas hatchback; 2016 VW Jetta TDI (returned for smog chip recall); 2017 VW GTi gas, was gifted to my granddaughter's college present; finally, this 2015 VW TDI Golf 5 dr hatchback. Yip, I'm a VW guy bc German does make a great durable car. best trade I ever made from a 15 mpg truck to a 45 mpg VW diesel Golf hatchback. anyone has an idea on diesel conversion to CNG, please reply. saw some old videos, but the most recent one for the 2015 VW TDI.
In January '20, I picked up a '14 TDI Sel Premium with 28k on it for $13k as a CPO from the VW dealer. New tires, brakes, battery, had the DSG service done, etc., plus as a CPO, it came with a 3 year, unlimited mileage bumper-to-bumper warranty (as well as the extended emissions warranty). Also had the all weather mats (plus the regular mats) as well as the trunk liner with the cargo stabilizers (or whatever you call those L shaped things that Velcro to the liner mat). Awesome car, but thank god for the warranty. I had to bring it in for the heater core replacement (EGR temp fault) a few months ago, and during a recent trip, it set the code again and is back at the dealer for that, as well as codes for left blend door actuator/position sensor and an intermittent short on the GPS antenna cable. Hopefully all the issues will crop up while the warranty is in effect, but all-in-all, you can't beat it for the price.

The warranty is a bit more that that. For 12-14 TDIs: Extended Emissions Warranty Information*: The vehicle has an Extended Emissions Warranty that runs for 10 years and 3 months or 123,000 miles from the original in-service date. Please see your VW dealership for additional information including the vehicle's in-service date. In addition, and concurrently, the Extended Emissions Warranty runs for 4 years and 3 months or 51,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the date of modification or first dealer resale post-modification. And the reason these TDIs have such low mileage, when VW bought these back from customers, they sat for a long time until VW sorted out what they were going to do. So for close to two years they sat (started and maintained by VW during this time!) thus the low mileage. I can get over 45 mpg highway all day long, even pushing 75-80 mph.
Picked up a 2012 Vw golf TDI with 72,000 for 11k back in November 2020. The car originally being from MD before the fix and I bought it in Western NY so the simple fact of having a rust free car that’s almost 10years old alone was worth the money but I never thought I would enjoy this as much as I do. Slapped a Kerma tune on it and haven’t looked back
I got a 2012 diesel gate Passat Fully loaded sel not a dent, scratch, speck of rust with 28,000 kms on it for 9 grand and it’s the best car I’ve ever owned in my life. After owning this car, I will never not own a tdi. And it came with an awesome warranty

I took it on a trip from Puyallup Washington to Cody Wyoming and just about made it on a full tank, if you buy a Passat TDI you could go even further due to the 18.5 gallon tank, I’m only rockin 14.5 gallons in the Jetta
I bought mine the end of 2019. Dealership was trying to put me in a Kia no sunroof baby screen ughh. I saw the Passat got it for 13 with 45k miles, Sunroof, Heated seats, Dsg black on black who ever had it got the SE optioned out even got the 18 inch wheels. Didnt expect to like it as much as I do. I drive the hell out this car. Oh and from Chicago to Atlant I got 44 mpg average so it aint to far from the claims LoL
You need to do your research. The issue had zero to do with fuel economy and had everything to do with emissions. They were actually getting higher fuel economy than advertised but they emissions were higher than they stated.
Upon returning to the UK in May 2021 I needed a run around and being a VW fan since 1979 my son and I started to look around (he had already bought a Mk4 Golf). I have to say of all the VW's I have owned it is serving well as they all have and this 2008 2.0L Diesel Estate is brilliant. I changed the oil in the DSG and have added 5000miles onto the 113000miles and it's a cracker! Goes well, quiet running and exceptionally smooth... Love it.
Dude if you're going to try and come on here and sell these and try not to sound like a salesman at least get your facts straight. Diesel gate was about the emissions that Tdi cars put out not the damn MPG. Seriously bro cringe...
Amazing video, we got them in Germany, especially the 2015/16 EU Model is a GREAT vehicle. I mean this is the best selling car behind the Golf here in Germany!
The fix affected the mpg's its a combustion thing with how lean it runs at what timing vs nox emissions. They removed them from the american market but they would pass emissions without the cheat.
I was working at VW at that time and had to do that recall 23Q3 very serious recall EPA was down our necks but I love this car I wanted one in shark blue with the manual transmission
Are there any years to avoid or what to look for? I’m trying to do some research before buying. I found 2025 golf tdi sel but I’m afraid to bite the bullet. I know the engines are good but I keep reading about other faulty components. Any input?

i have or had a 14 jetta tdi 6sped and it’s been a pos to me $600 starter went out , driver side leather seat ripped right down the stitching seam , last winter went to open the passenger door and the cable inside snapped so i had to ratchet strap the door closed just so i could get home . then try changing a headlight or day time running light bulbs it’s a nightmare and they seem to go out way too often you beat the crap out of your hands trying to get the bulb out . the rear brake backing plates both broke at the mounting bolts , i have to pull hard up in order to get my windows up on both sides . now engine lights is on . then there’s the $$$$$ emissions stuff and very expensive HPFP that if it goes out and throws metal all through your fuel lines and what not people have paid like $8k to fix . no thanks car has been traded in last week
I usually drive Lexus but I sold mine and tried a 2013 tdi a few days ago. So far it’s beautiful but I’m nervous with maintenance on a german car. Luckily it has a 2 year warranty. I think after that I’ll head back to Toyota lol
Great tour of the car and a convincing promotion. Curious if the rear seat folds down. If so, what is the length of cargo space from back of driver’s seat to tailgate?
The seats do fold down. I don't know the exact length, but with the rear seats down, I can fit 8ft 2x4s down the middle and they don't quite get to the shifter. You might have 6.5ft length to the back of the seats depending on how the front seats are adjusted. It isn't a completely flat surface though, just be aware.
My first car and still is mine is a Vw passat SE with leather inside. My fellow teens. Dont sleep on the VW. Especially passat or Cc. Anything above 2013 you will find yourself falling in love with. Easily able to take my fishing rods and fit my shit in the trunk whenever i go on trips.
ha ha that's pretty cool Michael! I guess your the guy that purchased it from us. Hope your doing well and nice to see you found my channel here on UA-cam. Chad
yea volkswagen are what I can afford right now because of the economy so yes it's a good car with warranty of course lol insurance is very cheap so is repairs
Perhaps because of chronic short trips without letting the car warm up to normal operating temperature? I’ve got a 2014 Jetta Sportwagen TDI, and whenever possible, drive it such a distance that the engine has enough time to get up to normal temp. Diesel’s friend is heat.
This guy has it backwards. VW didn't fudge on the MPG at all. I routinely got 45-48 mpg on mine most of the time. They fudged on the emissions. With that said, after the "fix" for the emissions, the MPG dropped but that was after the buyback. Still a great car but his statements are unintentionally misleading
I bought a 2017 SE with tech here in California for a good deal with 26k miles but not as good a deal that this guys says! I think he’s not honest about the price! Salesmen just want to get you in the store then they change the price or the say it’s been sold. Anyway, nice car. I love Passats, I have two but who drives diesel cars? Diesel cars get the best gas mileage but diesel fuel cost more than gasoline!
I’m buying a 2015 Passat TDI and the dealer said it comes with a Lifetime warranty with no mileage restrictions. I’ll read the paperwork but he said all I pay out of pocket is $100 and it’ll be fixed at any VW dealer. Sounds to good to be true but we’ll see.
Super misleading with your explanation of what Volkswagen did. They didn't lie about fuel economy. They lied about emissions and it cost them billions. That's why there's a warranty lmao you're not someone I'd wanna buy a car from. Just tell the truth, they might still make a great car, but lying is scummy.
And the 4 year 48,000 mile warranty is from the day the emissions were fixed to comply. Not from the day you buy it. And it only covers the emissions system not the entire car.
i just got one over in idaho it gets over 40 on hwy pretty steady but average intown and hwy same trimp i hit like 37 heads up heater core goes out about every 40000 miles but easyy to get to

That “parchment interior” is a color called Cornsilk. And that seat fabric is called Dinamica.
You need to do your research. The issue had zero to do with fuel economy and had everything to do with emissions. They were actually getting higher fuel economy than advertised but they emissions were higher than they stated.
I got a 168k miles Passat Wolfburg edition for $5000 and it's perfect
We know millennial. No need for the cringe Reddit reply

Bought mine for only 10k and now it's worth up to 18k. Great cars and amazing warrenty.
Amazing video, we got them in Germany, especially the 2015/16 EU Model is a GREAT vehicle. I mean this is the best selling car behind the Golf here in Germany!
@@simpsot_ Yeah, I hope you will have a lot of fun with it, the DSG btw is amazing
Yh I had a eu b7 aswell in 2016, London I loved it definitely the best car u can but for the money 10000% recommend and think the eu ones are better
600 miles a tank . I love mine . Got mine 31.000 miles for 11k
They lied about it being dirty not mpg
Bingo!
Smog buddy it’s a diesel
What is the last year for Passat TDI?
Are there any years to avoid or what to look for? I’m trying to do some research before buying. I found 2025 golf tdi sel but I’m afraid to bite the bullet. I know the engines are good but I keep reading about other faulty components. Any input?
a 2025? I assume you mean 2015?
2 years ago, I purchased a Volkswagen Passat TDI SEL. I love my car. But I just don't know the car🤣🤣🤣 I'm still learning it. I got mines at about 17 thousand miles for a little over 17. But, I always get asked about my car. But I definitely hear my car running.
I bought a 2013 passat TDI for 4200 last year. 120k miles. Amazing car and now I'm spoiled
Congrats Luis. You got yourself a nice car for sure!~ Enjoy it. I like the Jeep Wrangler on your profile pic. You should check out my channel. I film some unique vehicles each week to share with my subscribers. Thanks, Chad
4200?????I bought mine for 10000 with 68k miles. And it's a 2013
@@Wontreplyeverdontbother yea mine was great condition and I bought it last August, mine is the SEL premium version and I've seen a lot of them go for over 13k

How to buy may Passat back?
Yup getting one Saturday last year made tdi 2015 passage just got at 2021 Tiguan in Burt orange soo nice
i have or had a 14 jetta tdi 6sped and it’s been a pos to me $600 starter went out , driver side leather seat ripped right down the stitching seam , last winter went to open the passenger door and the cable inside snapped so i had to ratchet strap the door closed just so i could get home . then try changing a headlight or day time running light bulbs it’s a nightmare and they seem to go out way too often you beat the crap out of your hands trying to get the bulb out . the rear brake backing plates both broke at the mounting bolts , i have to pull hard up in order to get my windows up on both sides . now engine lights is on . then there’s the $$$$$ emissions stuff and very expensive HPFP that if it goes out and throws metal all through your fuel lines and what not people have paid like $8k to fix . no thanks car has been traded in last week
I freaking love my 2012 Passat TDI SEL
I usually drive Lexus but I sold mine and tried a 2013 tdi a few days ago. So far it’s beautiful but I’m nervous with maintenance on a german car. Luckily it has a 2 year warranty. I think after that I’ll head back to Toyota lol
how did the Passat do? I recently purchased a 2019 Passat. Awesome ride so far.
@@MrJohnson1212 I got rid of it. I didn’t like it at all but im used to Toyota. It was loud and rough to me but others who rode with me loved the ride
@chanda-aime6388 im sorry it didn't work out for you. So far, so good with mine.

@@perryjohnson7659 that’s awesome! I’m sure it’s a beautiful car. I’ve heard nothing but great things about them
2014 passat tdi sel premium 43k miles on it the owner is asking for 16k is it too much?
My friend has one and it is an awesome car 🚗. Runs strong and fast . allot of room in the car.
YEE YEE brother! These are good cars!
Just bought mine. 40k miles for $10k. Great car.
Same
Got a 2014 tie sel premium with 45000 miles for 9k, had for a little over a year and just hit 50000, I love it
Paid literally nothing for a 12 Passat with 60xxx kms so about 40xxx miles. Tdi and dsg highline. Super nice car.
Do these have the DEF / adblue systems installed ? I heard they are a pain
You are wrong about fuel economy. The fixed cars now get the stated MPG, they got great MPG when they cheated
Do you have tdi diesel available right now?
How does the warranty work if you buy a used one
If the previous owner had a warranty on it you inherit the warranty when you purchase it
@@suburbwealthypeterjohn they have a few certified. Look at vw certified website and it has specific notes for the certified models
I got a 2014 tdi sel with 30k for 12k. I love it.
I know this is a year old. But do you have any of these left
You guys need to get in some 15 Jetta SEL TDIs!
2014 Touareg owner love it
My first car and still is mine is a Vw passat SE with leather inside. My fellow teens. Dont sleep on the VW. Especially passat or Cc. Anything above 2013 you will find yourself falling in love with. Easily able to take my fishing rods and fit my shit in the trunk whenever i go on trips.
The claim was regarding emissions. DYR
Is it available for Mexico? I would love to buy one of those
Lol my vw Passat is in the background the black one in front of the white bmw.
ha ha that's pretty cool Michael! I guess your the guy that purchased it from us. Hope your doing well and nice to see you found my channel here on UA-cam. Chad
yea volkswagen are what I can afford right now because of the economy so yes it's a good car with warranty of course lol insurance is very cheap so is repairs
do you still have passat tdi for sell?
My dad had one in 2014 (can't remember model year). Now since I drive 40 miles to work every day I really want to get in on that 50 mpg he was getting
why so many, dpf problems add blue problems....
Perhaps because of chronic short trips without letting the car warm up to normal operating temperature? I’ve got a 2014 Jetta Sportwagen TDI, and whenever possible, drive it such a distance that the engine has enough time to get up to normal temp. Diesel’s friend is heat.
I'm shopping now for a Sportwagen and prices have gone a bunch higher now...
I got a Passat b7 in 2016 and it was madd, the eu version is slightly better and nicer looking but even the American version is nice
How reliable is the Passat
Looking at a 2014, one owner, with 112k for $10.5k in florida, anyones thoughts?
This guy has it backwards. VW didn't fudge on the MPG at all. I routinely got 45-48 mpg on mine most of the time. They fudged on the emissions. With that said, after the "fix" for the emissions, the MPG dropped but that was after the buyback. Still a great car but his statements are unintentionally misleading
Chad kinda sounds like pastor Jeff's voice from young Sheldon
I have 3, - Two 2013’s and One 2014
Hey I want to buy one send me the link so I can apply thank you
my 2013 passat tdi only has 31k miles on it. Got it with 22k miles.
Imagine only getting 38mpg in a tdi wut r they doing flooring it 27/9 and towing
if you take it to a VW dealer for any reason they install the emissions "fix" which reduces mpg. fuckin stupid
does the 2015 tdi sel prem have ability to play Bluetooth off my phone like music and stuff

I just bought one 2013 for 13k 90 thousand miles I obviously paid a lil to much seeing you guys paid 11-13 in 2020 😂 fuq 💀
I thought this was an informative video not a sales pitch 🙄
The major problem wasn't the fuel consumption, it was the emissions which was out by a magnitude of 4 or 5
VW dealers give you a CPO warranty.
You know your a sales man when you don’t stop talking for 1 second
Super misleading with your explanation of what Volkswagen did. They didn't lie about fuel economy. They lied about emissions and it cost them billions. That's why there's a warranty lmao you're not someone I'd wanna buy a car from. Just tell the truth, they might still make a great car, but lying is scummy.
And the 4 year 48,000 mile warranty is from the day the emissions were fixed to comply. Not from the day you buy it. And it only covers the emissions system not the entire car.
In europe too...
46mpg easy ..
