  • This video shows how to generate electricity from mud or how to make earth battery or dirt battery or mud battery. This is an science experiment which can used for school exhibitions or for science fair exhibitions. This can be an award winning science project for school students in their school exhibitions.
    Materials Needed :
    1. Copper Wires ( Buy Here : amzn.to/3voJGMm )
    2. Galvanized Nails
    3. Wires
    4. LED
    This Mud battery or Soil battery work by harnessing the power of bacteria that live in soil. These microscopic organisms release electrons as they consume and break down sugars. As the bacteria expel energy, the battery will capture it and allow it to be reused.
    The 2 most common types of bacteria are Shewanella & Geobacter. Shewanella can be in almost anywhere on the earth, and can expel energy to compounds outside its body. Geobacter is are to be found where there is no oxygen (like the ocean floor) and can respire iron compounds.

      One terminal is copper and one terminal is Galvanized nail, so you can use copper nail if you get it, i had copper wire so I used it and Galvanized nail on the other !!

      @@CreativityBazaar Oh yeah! Because you need one electrode to be made of copper and the other one from tin, right? I thought that the nail was supposed to make more surface area to make more electricity so it was weird that other side didn't have that extra surface. Forgot about that weird different metals electrodes that I dont really understand

    Why is it showing a minus number and how many milliamps is this setup producing ?

    • @CreativityBazaar
      @CreativityBazaar  2 роки тому

      That's because the terminals of both wires were interchanged...!! But you ignore minus symbol...!! If you interchange terminals, you get positive value..!!

    • @annebeignatborde1832
      @annebeignatborde1832 2 роки тому

      @@CreativityBazaar Ah ok. I can't see at what point they're interchanged seeing as you hooked the copper (the cathode) to a red wire that was then attached to the red lead of the voltmeter and the galvanized nail (the anode) to a white wire which you attached to the black lead of the voltmeter. But nevermind.

      @@CreativityBazaar one end of the copper should be in the mud but the end that's wrapped around the top of the galvanized nail should not.
      I've just run a test to verify: 2 small earth batteries wired in series with the copper wire around the top of the nail not in contact with mud = 1.56 volts. Pushed the nail down so that the copper wire was in the mud and the voltage went down to 1.47 volts. (I wonder why?!)
      With 5 batteries in series you should be getting closer to 3.94 volts.

    • @annebeignatborde1832
      @annebeignatborde1832 2 роки тому +1

      @@CreativityBazaar Yes but not at the point you're joining them together. Otherwise some of your electrical charge from battery a is leaking into the mud in battery b, hence a lower voltage.
      Not really helpful as all I've done is confirm what I had already observed. It would have been helpful to know how many milliamps you were getting to see if I should use different soil for the mud. Yours looks like there's a lot of clay in it.
