I’ll say it again until I’m blue in the face - Timothy Dalton is the most underrated James Bond ever. He singlehandedly brought the character of Bond back to reality after the camp excesses and slapstick of the Roger Moore era, and gave us a dark, brooding interpretation in the process. The fact that he read the Fleming novels to get into character shows how committed he was to the role. Sadly, late 80’s audiences just weren’t ready for a realistic Bond and still favoured the clownish tropes of the Moore era. Were it not for the legal issues and lawsuit between the studios in the early 90’s, he could of done at least two more Bond movies.

This was Ian Flemings version, bond was meant to be how Timothy played him, imagine goldeneye it would end up different, Timothy Dalton version would not let 006 die at any cost
Dalton was offered the role of bond in 1969's on her majesty's secret service but turned it down. He respected the character too much and when he took on the role of OO7, he came prepared out of all the actors. He's my favorite actor to play James Bond.
Connery IS Bond. But Dalton is very credible. Way better than cheesy Roger Moore or snarky Brosnan, who I never bought. I like Daniel Craig's version of Bond as a more serious spy but exuding legitamite toughness. Dalton had that as well. I would put Licence to Kill in my top 5 Bond films with Goldfinger, From Russia. With Love, Thunderball and Craig's debut in Casino Royale. You can flush the Brosnan and Moore pictures down the loo. They can and are entertaining but neither of those guys struck me as a convincing Bond. Lazenby was not really an actor but his one outing was actually pretty good. Telly as the villain and Diana Rigg as his lady helped a lot.

After the end of comedy-parody era with the right man Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton - must play in ''A View To a Kill'' - was the right man at the right time. But he was unlucky, because he came to the end of the Cold War (a basic theme in the Bond films script) and in the years 1990-1994 without a Bond movie.
This song actually suits Timothy Dalton better IMO. Feels like a counterpart to The Living Daylights. A break with the traditional bond ballads for some slightly edgier and modern (at the time) synth pop. It always felt kinda weird having this music play and then old man Roger Moore come on screen.
