Thank you for this very clear demonstration! I ordered the replacement valve online for $44 and replaced it without issue because of your instructions. You saved me a call to the overpriced pool company!
Helpful thanks. I found this video because my problem is I just installed a brand new S180T sand filter and multivalve top (replaced an old one of the exact same set up). All is perfect, except my brand new multiport valve is leaking from the very top / handle!!?? Any thoughts on what could possibly be wrong with a brand new, sealed product in box?
I had to order a new valve, but I tossed the old one already and forgot what position the handle was in. If the new one comes in the closed position but I possibly took the old 1 off in the filter position am I kinda screwed is there a notch or something to put it in the correct position?
If you look at the link below you can see if you picture a clock, the “filter mode” notch (Hayward logo) on top of the multiport valve handle is at 12 o’clock and the side of the MPV with two ports is at 9 o’clock. Which is the same orientation as shown in my video. So I think that’s the way yours should go if you have this same MPV. A quick browse on the internet shows the same orientation as well. Proceed with caution and use at your own risk. @@ChlorineKingPoolService Mine is leaking at the same spot on top of the valve. We have taken everything apart and we don't see anything suspicious but after the line gets pressure into it, water starts coming out the middle. Spider gasket is in excellent condition.
@@ChlorineKingPoolService Yes ,water coming up thru the center where handle turns. Don't really want to spend $200+ replacing entire valve if it's just an O ring or spider valve gasket. What do you think?
I always like to take a picture before I take something apart that I'm not familiar with. You can generally match the grove in the lid with the groove that holds the O-Ring in the bottom half of the MPV. If you don't feel comfortable with this please contact your local pool professional so they can do it!
My Hayward Multiport Valve is 20 years old and leaking from the handle and maybe the sides too. Do I need an entire new valve unit? Also, my pool installers did not put a plumbing cut off valve from the pool to the motor or the filter; can just shutting off the motor and draining the filter get rid of all the water in order to replace this unit if I have to?
If the handle broke off I'm assuming it was super difficult to turn, probably the result of the spider gasket not being lubed. Next time it gets tight, move the handle halfway between two ports (to depressurise the filter), unscrew the head and replace/re-lube the gasket. If you go down the re-lube path, just keep in mind that a spider gasket that's been wrenched around due to being too tight could now easily be warped and allow water to leak regardless of now being freshly lubed.

You’re welcome.
Hi
@@ChlorineKingPoolService would the selector malfunction cause a priming issue?
Where u bought it
No because generally a priming issue would be before the pump.
Just wanted to say thanks for your video. Just put a new top on mine and this video was excellent. Prep.
You’re very welcome. I’m glad it helped! Thanks for watching.

Mine is leaking out the top also but someone said u can change a gasjet underneath? Is that right thanks
Yes you can but it’s sort of a pain. The handle/lid assembly can be completely disassembled. Just a pain to put back together. I hope this helps.
My new valve is leaking at the handle, any suggestions what could be wrong. I had the spider gasket and mvp cap replaced.
Where at the handle... in the center immediately around the notch locks into the mode of what you want the filter to be in?
@@ChlorineKingPoolService, yes water fills into the notch area where you select, filter, backwash, etc.

How do I put the lid back on correctly? My filter doesn't gave any notches.

Do you have to glue the new spider gasket and then lube it?
Don’t glue the entire thing. Just dabs here and there.

How much do you charge for labor on that job?
$125/hr
Awesome video thanks.
You’re very welcome.
Where’s does the 2 tiny o rings go?
They go underneath the spring on the underside of the handle per the parts diagram. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for showing me how to change the multi valve
You're very welcome Nina! I'm glad it helped you!
Thanks.
No problem. Thanks for watching.
No information on how to order the new part.
Any pool store or supply house should have it. Probably even Amazon.
When I take the lid off eventhough I close all the taps and switch off the pump I lose gallons of water coming out of the top?
Out of the multiport?
I’m having this problem. Leaking out of the multiport. Any advice?
I broke the handle off of mine (stupid I know) , & stumbled upon this video. Would I have to take different steps in this situation ?
No sir. The top half of the MPV comes with the handle already attached. Just order that part and you'll be good to go!
Chlorine King Pool Service Hey Thanks for the response , do you happen to have a link or know where I can purchase the items I would need

I have a problem the screws that came with mine are way to weak I can't even remove them without them breaking up
Can you reuse the existing ones?
Mine is brand new right out of the box. Leaking WTF
Qc has taken a major hit since COVID. I’m sorry you have to deal with that.
Ugh.. so can't just replace the handle? Then why sell this separately? Lol
You can but it’s a real pain messing with the compression spring and trying to put it all together.
