I've tried Novgorod as well - somewhat done a similar start as you - and must admit that it is a very interesting play. I didn't get any of their units to get schtakkenwiped though, but it is what it is. Keep up the good work!
One small correction: When you form Russia as Novgorod you get a slightly different version of the Russian mission tree. The most important difference is that you don't get the mission to form the Slavic culture group, so you're locked out of uniting the Slavs if you form Russia as Novgorod.
I disagree with that. The main difference is that the Novogrod Russia gets another 10% ccr for having Sweden. Although it may seem overkill to stack even more ccr, since regular Russia easily gets the maximum cost reduction, more ccr further reduces the coring time, making it easier to deal with a large overextension in the late game if you are aiming for a world conquest. Since there are not many other republics that are well suited for a world conquest, this makes Novgorod a very unique and worthwhile experience.
Dear Sir, how about Livonian Order video? (Since you ignored my Ryukyu pledges 😭) They have flavor from the Lions of the North expansion and can form Livonia who has a super nice and bestest map color ever!
Novgorod is the best nation to form Russia IMO. I recommend innovative, offensive, plutocratic, espionage, trade, quantity, infrastructure, maybe even mercenary, admin, or even quality. My favorite thing is the Russian middle class and abolishing serfdom.
Btw, why always the free company instead of getting of real mercenary company with a leader? It's like 1 ducet more a month, and almost-guaranteed siege pip(s). Seems like a no brainer.
